Hi everyone, new troper here and this my fifth thread on This Very Wiki. I am a simple man. I like dinosaurs and other prehistoric animals. And I like animation. So why not combine them both? This thread focuses on animated movies and TV shows about dinosaurs and other prehistoric fauna (Dinosaur, Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous, Dinosaur Train, Ice Age, The Land Before Time, Dinotrux and etc.), as well as appearances of prehistoric animals in non-dinosaur animated media (e.g. Tootsie from Ducktales and Stegmutt from Darkwing Duck). You can also post here what prehistoric animals you want to see in animation, your thoughts and reviews of dinosaur focused animations, your favourite animated dinosaur characters, your theories about your favourite animated dinosaur productions as well your ideas for potential animated movies/TV shows set in prehistory/focused on prehistoric life (like a animated movie taking place in Paleozoic and serving as a spiritual prequel for Dinosaur and Ice Age). Dinosaur and animation nuts emerge and unite!

I don't know if anyone will look into this thread when I will post this post, but according to this leak Paw Patrol The Movie 3 will be focused around dinosaurs and based on the Dino Rescue subseries. What do you think what species of dinosaurs will appear in the movie, if leak will turn out to be true?

I know that's a little bit late, but I'm adding stuff from upcoming Jurassic World: Chaos Theory here.

I’ve only seen the first season of Primal but it’s really good. I have yet to watch Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur, it’s on my watchlist on Disney+.

I haven’t seen the movie in years. ^_^;; But I’m still very much a fan of the dinosaurs and other such prehistoric critters we know and love from the “Rite of Spring” segment of Fantasia. :)

Funny thing: I watched The Land Before Time once as a child, and when I went back to it as an adult, I was surprised by how much of it I remembered accurately. This was odd because many other films I had seen only once, like Aladdin and The Little Mermaid, I remembered only in bits and pieces. Maybe I was much more interested in dinosaurs, or maybe the film's simple plot (even for a children's film) helped.

When I went back to it as an adult, I was not, as I had feared, annoyed by any failures of palaeontology. It was done after the dinosaur revolution and held up very well, the major pitfall being Petrie. It's remarkable that it has no small theropods, unthinkable after Jurassic Park. What did annoy me was the geology: lava appears and disappears between shots.

Stories don't tell us monsters exist; we knew that already. They show us that monsters can be trademarked and milked for years.

I remember one time my mom described The Land Before Time as a nice family friendly movie. Yeah, it could be. :) When Sharptooth wasn’t around, that is. tongue

If nothing else, it reminds children of why they need a supporting family.

You might be disappointed. It's well animated, it's strikingly dark, but it's also clumsily put together. Right after his mother's death, we get a sequence that feels straight out of a Disney cartoon short, that might have worked at the start or the end but not just as the plot is getting going. You can feel how competing visions and last-minute changes hurt it: the narrator feels redundant, some character beats are not set up properly and don't make sense in context, the racism subplot goes nowhere. Only Littlefoot and Cera have any personality beyond comic relief. There's also an overall shallowness despite the artistic aspiration; one Youtuber summed it up as "It's a coming-of-age story, but has nothing to say about it other than that... it happens."

But I have to commend making Cera female. She is quite stereotypically boyish, and as a tomboy she feels like more than the cliché she would have been.

The sequels in contrast have a clearer idea of what they are aiming to be, entertainment for children who love exotic animals. Of the two I've seen , I can say that The Land Before Time X: The Great Longneck Migration is worth watching for the animation and family drama.
