Here are the basics of my idea, which I call Legends of Thear. Genre is a mixture of High Fantasy, Lovecraft Lite, and New Weird.

Humans are not a playable race in this setting because they died off a long time ago and their bones are being used by a race of slime people so that they can have a skeleton.

The most widespread race in the setting are Kobolds, not just on Thear but across the entire universe because they were created as a Servant Race for the dragons.

Dragons colonized the entire universe millions of years ago and they ruled over it until their leader died which plunged the empire into a succession crisis turned civil war that is still going on today.

There are 8 different types of magic in this setting and they are: Martial, Divine, Primal, Astral, Arcane, Shadow, Technology, and Music. You can only be attuned to one type of magic.

Nature Spirits are everywhere in this setting and their leader is Contravoid, who is the universe itself.

Okay, as far as described your setting sounds interesting, and otherwise perfectly fine.

Do you have any specific questions or uncertainties...?

So the elevator pitch is “space-faring kobold war after their dragon masters died?”

That sounds pretty fun. Is this more of a d&d-“independent adventures exploring” kind of game or more of a wh40k-“soldiers on missions against enemy factions” kind of thing?

It's an independent adventurers exploring kind of game, although I could make a war game spin off if it got popular enough.

The main planets for campaigns that don't involve space travel

Thear: The default planet and earth analogue. Best described as a High Fantasy version of the 19th century. Detailed enough for its own post.

Aryte: Basically 1984 if Big Brother was an immortal king who could easily crush the other two nations but doesn't because he would no longer have a place in the world, large cities no longer exist, and most of the land have become radioactive swamps from millenia of warfare. The other two nations are a Communist government that believes the only way to achieve peace is to wipe out the other two nations and a Theocracy who use constant warfare to appease the planet so it doesn't kill them all.

Vanic: Homeworld of the Vampires. Stuck in an eternal state of night time after the vampire's leader, Drac, imprisoned the sun in the previous age. Few blood having races remain on the planet that aren't basically domesticated by the Vampires. Other most prominent race on the planet are the Mollu, snail people whose literal blue blood makes them unfit to be feasted upon by the Vampires.

Ellebos: Civilization on this planet is in a Medieval Stasis after an apocalyptic event many ages ago created world spanning rivers of lava and floating continents. Planet with the lowest amount of sentient life, only having Wisps and various kinds of Kobolds.

Seturilia: Tidally Locked Planet with no land masses large enough to be considered continents, unless you count the enormous glacier found on the night side of the planet. Ships are built on the backs of giant sea creatures here, or are made out of ice.

Linzana: A Planet Spaceship, as in a planet that was turned into a spaceship, that was abandoned after the Dragon controlling it died. Most people live beneath the surface of the planet after the device used to turn the planet into a spaceship went awry and caused a permanent drought.

Nunzilles: An artificial planet made by the Dragons for the purpose of housing their prisoners, it was forgotten about when the Civil War started. Now they are dealing with three major catastrophes at the same time. They're being invaded by Dryads who are transforming them into more Dryads, the robotic guards the Dragons left there are reactivating, and a Dragon has rediscovered the place and is using it as a testing ground for his experiments.

Derconis: Former homeworld of the Dragons. Abandoned after the Ley Lines of the planet were torn open in an attempt to kill the seven members of dragon royalty fighting for control of the planet. The resulting blast of pure magic caused the entire planet to mutate, causing things such as a jungle made entirely out of metal, including the animals, and a swamp with acid instead of water and those are on the less weird end of the apectrum. The blast didn't even kill them it merged them into one being, a seven-headed Dragon known as Musmahhu.

The Cosmology of my setting

Crossroads, The First City: A city the size of a universe found in the center of the multiverse. Acts as a Portal Crossroad World to the rest of the multiverse. The place where the lines between the Spirit World and the Mortal Territories are basically nonexistent. Originally created by the Fae as a prison for the Void Monarch.

The Mortal Territories: The various universes as we know it. The observable universe is only a mere speck compared to the size of an actual universe. Each universe is radically different from one another.

The Spirit World: Home of the nature spirits and overlaps the Mortal Territories. Almost everything in the Mortal Territories has an equivalent in the Spirit World.

Wild Space: The realm of Wild Magic. Spaceships use it as a shortcut to skip the long distances between stars. Very dangerous place because all spells used in Wild Space have a chance of going wild. The geography is so weird here that you need someone specifically trained in navigating it if you want to get through it without a high chance of being killed.

Faerie: Home of the Fae. Each universe has its own Faerie found in the exact center of it. Divided equally among the Four Queens of the Fae.

Planes of Existence: Pocket dimensions found between the edge of the Mortal Territories and the Dreamlands. Created in a variety of ways but most often when pieces of the Dreamlands break off and enter the world of the waking.

Domains: Pocket dimensions belonging to gods. Each god has their own domain which is an extension of themselves.

Eight Realms of Magic: Gigantic Planes of Existence that are each the embodiment of one of the eight kinds of magic. They are Acheron, Ein Sof, the Elemental Chaos, the Garden of Eyes, the Millenium Library, Gehenna, the Chrono-Engine, and Cosmotif. Each one is the size of a universe.ember

Dreamlands: The place where dreams become reality and source of all psychic powers. Reality is easily malleable and constantly shifting in this place. Governed by the Outer Gods, who are sentient concepts.

Styx: What remains of the afterlife after the Dragon Queen destroyed it following her death. Completely devoid of all color except for black, white, and grey.

Space Between Spaces: A strange place that people barely know anything about other than it is in-betwern spaces. A Bagof Holding does not contain a pocket dimension in it but instead has a portal to the Space Between Spaces in it.

Some of the more interesting playable races in my setting

Silthari - Sentient locusts that are not humanoid locusts but instead a Worm That Walks race. Not an actual Hive Mind, instead each Silthari is a single mind spread across many organisms.

Baaambanian - Psychic sheep people that are half-asleep at all times. They have a strong connection to the Dreamlands which makes low level reality warpers.

Hadalians - Transparent squid that live in the Hadal Zone. They use their psychic powers to create bubbles of highly pressurized water so they don't die.

How Space Works in the Setting.

Space is full of a fluid-like substance called Aether. There are denser sections of Aether that act like oceans allowing for Space Sailing. Large asteroids act as islands in the Aether Oceans. There is a specific kind of space station known as an Aether Port that people dock at since a planets gravitational pull makes docking at them impossible.

Some of the many Kingdoms of Thear.

Vindheim: A wild west inspired kingdom of cobra people. Recently won a several decade long civil war against necromancers. Now the kingdom is trying to deal with the aftermath of the whole thing, which is a zombie apocalypse. This place is a mix between Cattle Punk and Weird West.

Agoora: Underground kingdom of slime people. Serves as the basic campaign setting.

Den-Dural: Steampunk kingdom. Major deconstruction of Cityof Adventure. The lands surrounding the kingdom are entirely polluted. The surrounding land is also littered with the remains of failed attempts at creating mobile cities. They have to import most of their food. All of the cities are layered to house all the people that were forced into living there after the pollution turned all the nature spirits mad. Current king is trying to make things better though.

The Hinum Trinarchy: Kingdom of Pseudodragons located on the back of a giant mechanical beast. Ruled over by three different noble families, where the only thing keeping them from backstabbing eachother is their distrust of outsiders.

Wyveria: Dystopian kingdom run by a Magocracy. The upper class has convinced the lower classes that only the upper class has access to magic. The Black Masks are a secret police dedicated to preventing illegal knowledge about magic from reaching the lower class.

The Briarlands: Former kingdom that went by the name of Avalon. Fell a few hundred years ago to the machinations of a villain. Half of it has been taken over by briars. Made up of many smaller factions that constantly battle for control of the remaining land.

Nomads of Drozeron: The various nomadic tribes of the continent of Drozeron. Water is a precious resource because most of Drozeron is desert. The various tribes include cactus worshippers, kobold barbarians, and beetle artillery abusers.

Napanaja: Kingdom of Orochi, Oni, and Vaspidan. Constantly raids their neighbors, which the Emperor uses to keep himself in power.

Libertatia: Democratic Kingdom founded by pirates. Still around even after the age of piracy ended. The democracy here works differently, the kingdom is divided into the four cardinal directions and each section votes for their own pirate lord. Also, the citizens can hold a vote at any time to remove a pirate lord from power, this can't happen during a war though.

Coalition of Ramith: Theocratic kingdom of moth people. Religion has importance on cleanliness and the priests are also janitors. Used to be rivals with a Worm That Walks race but forced to pull an Enemy Mine because their fighting awakened an evil god, which turned out to be a local mountain. Now they are getting along, mostly because them fighting again would reawaken the evil god again.

Myconea: Kingdom of mushroom people. Came into existence when the Yggdrasil, a species of giant tree that sends its seeds into space, started rotting. Their capital is the hollowed out stump.

The Arc-Hives: Socialist kingdom of bee people. Only the female workers have rights, queens and males are only there for breeding. All the hives are also libraries.

Pryntat: Autocracy of bear people. They thought they had successfully overthrew the tsar, then the missing grand princess returned and killed all the revolutionaries. She had allied herself with winter itself making it always winter here.

Midgard: Kingdom of viking Fox Folk. Proud Warrior Race because of the cycles of Ragnarok. Every few centuries Surtur invades and when he wins the continent of Onarra sinks into the ocean for a few centuries then resurfacing. Every single time they lose they focus more on fighting so that they could possibly win the next one and put an end to the cycles of Ragnarok. The continent they live on is basically the north pole but as an actual continent.

Do you have any mechanics written down so far?

On what engine does your game run?

Is it combat heavy, RP heavy or exploration heavy?

Viva la je!

This setting is wonderfully imaginative. I look forward to more.

Now everyone pat me on the back and tell me how clever I am!
