Because WB tried to bury the movie and in doing so wound up creating terrible publicity for themselves and more interest in the movie than if it had gotten its regular release.

They didn't want anyone to make any waves about Coyote Vs Acme one way or the other. Just let it quietly die. And in doing so, it's gained more free advertising that they can't actually capitalize directly on.

Although I do wonder if they might just bite the bullet and release it themselves lol. I know they are better off just selling it though.

Dunno, but selling it so others might use it might give them bigger money on less risk.

Given that WBD have pulled this write off strategy three (almost four) times at this point, I seriously doubt it.

More tellingly, why did they relent and actually release this movie instead of the usual head-in-sand tactic?

They were in a bad position with the strike and the bad press alongside them losing a lot of chances to actually make stuff since people started avoiding them like the plague.

There were rumors (or were they confirmed? I only know for certain about rumors) that they were basically hearing from content creators that they weren't going to be working with them in the future since this creates a bad precedent.

Specifically that filmmakers were canceling their schedule meetings with WBD. Or so the rumor goes.

It's been over a week and still no distributor (that we know of). I'm starting to get a little worried.

What if Warners announced they were reversing course just to put a Band-Aid on the bad press? Already it seems that people are forgetting this whole debacle. There were more news stories when the movie was "dead" than there are now...

If Warner reversed course and refused to sell the movie, then the plans of filmmakers to give them a chance and see them on reunions will also reverse and then Filmmakers will never meet them again.

It'll probably just take a little more time to fully commit to a deal; it's not a simple "Amazon says yes and the transition happens immediately" thing, business deals like this take some time.

That seems to be the most realistic.

It’s like at festivals whenever there’s a new independent movie, it takes quite a while for studios to negotiate and release the film as intended (unless you were the Weinsteins, in which case you hate all fun and freedom).

One thing I found out recently is Eric Bauza did Wile E. Coyote's voice. Which makes me wonder if he's doing the intellectual voice he had in some shorts, and the "Adventures of the Road Runner" special. Also I'm glad they hired a professional voice actor for a film which is just rare.

They did lean into that era more during Wabbit., and personally I’d be up for it. I’m no snob about what’s the best version of these characters.

The post also includes a private link to what is apparently a trailer for the film.

Initially assumed to be fake, the person who posted this confirmed the image was indeed real through a tweet from a crew member in one of the comments.

Looks like this film will have some hand drawn animation after all. Again, looking promising.

I think the animation in this film is actually cel-shaded CGI not unlike Tom & Jerry (2021).

I don't know how to feel about WB right now. On one hand, I am part of the crowd that was indifferent to Batgirl getting canned because I was in deep superhero fatigue and just didn't have any interest. But at the same time, the way they are disrespectful to their animated works just drives me crazy and gives an indication that maybe the execs are just wildly out of touch.

In terms of potential, I have a hard time thinking that this upcoming film could ever rival Who Framed Roger Rabbit or even Back in Action. But I have a nostalgia for Looney Tunes so I wanna see this succeed.

I mean… you should probably feel pissed at WB even if they’re canceling stuff you don’t like. I couldn’t care less about Looney Tunes, but I was still mad about them disrespecting this movie’s creators when I heard about what happened.

The Looney Tunes characters have always been portrayed by voice actors, even in film. That was never in doubt.

Brendan Fraser as Taz, Zendaya as Lola Bunny and Gabriel Iglesias as Speedy Gonzales being a couple of the exceptions

Yeah I guess I am pissed at Warner Brothers. It feels like they have just been consistently making the bad decisions. I mean, I didn't like The Flash and that was the most recent movie I have watched. And I absolutely hated Velma, especially in that it made fun of people who watch cartoons. And..... Velma, you are a cartoon. Are you mad at yourself?

The more I learn about this Acme movie, the more I am hoping for somebody else to take ahold of it. Except Disney. Please, that would feel so wrong.
