It would be kind of ironic if a Spider-Man actor got the role, considering Under the Silver Lake was pretty much a Spiritual Adaptation of Zelda and it had two Spider-Man actors in it.
...I didn't get that impression from it at all. Is that a common opinion?
There was that one scene where Andrew Garfield's character managed to find a secret location using the overworld map from the original NES game.
However, yeah, I didn't get many vibes it was an overall homage to the series. It felt more in line with 40's film noirs.
They say live action, but you know there's going to be a ton of CG. All the monsters, all the non-human races... Unless they get the Jim Henson guys to make a lot of animatronics or something.
I'm honestly not that surprised that the Zelda movie is going to be in live action, although it would have been interesting to see this film in full animation, especially if Illumination animated the film and tied it to the Mario movie. However, since the tone of Zelda is much darker than Mario's, I guess Illumination wouldn't have been a good choice in that regards. Maybe Dreamworks could have taken a stab at it, since they did do the Puss in Boots Last Wish movie.
I love animation, TV, movies, YOU NAME IT!The biggest question is how they are gonna handle Link's personality, really.
Wake me up at your own risk. It'll depend on who they get to write, and we're probably at least a year away from a finished script.
There is a writer attached, Derek Connolly of Jurassic World and Detective Pikachu. Deadline
I kind of wonder if they coould still keep Link mostly silent. But he's gonna have to say something now and again eventually.
Having read the Zelda manga (not Twilight Princess, yet, however), I'm fine with Link talking. It's not an inherently bad idea.
/crawls back under rockPersonally I don't think the idea of Link talking is that crazy. As for his personality, while Link is a Heroic Mime I would argue he has a canon personality (or rather, specific versions of him have different personalities).
"Any campaign world where an orc samurai can leap off a landcruiser to fight a herd of Bulbasaurs will always have my vote of confidence"Someone on Twitch joked that Link should be like Tack from The Thief and the Cobbler. Link is silent for the majority of the film, until the end where he finally speaks and he has an incredibly deep voice.
With all the memes about women choosing a bear over a man, Hollywood might wanna get on an 'East of the Sun and West of the Moon' adaptationYou just know he's going to say, "well excuuuuse me, princess" at least once
I like the fanfics where Link communicates with sign language.
It's Linkin' time.
Link speaking is much easier than it sounds. It just requires building Link's character. I can envision Link from Wind Waker speaking because he's so full of personality that you know exactly what kind of anime character he reminds you of. Same thing with Skyward Sword Link.
It's only the Links that are deliberately built as a blank slate speaking becomes more difficult to envision. I mean, Link in Age of Calamity literally disappears into the background whenever anyone is talking.
Stand back, he's about to Link!
I'll teach you a lesson about just how cruel the world can be. That's my job, as an adult.Link's silence isn't some sacrosanct part of his character, given every other adaptation (the manga series, namely) has ignored it. It's a stylistic choice that isn't even canon most of the time—he talks to people plenty, depending on the game. The player just doesn't hear it.

Link definitely talks. It would still be weird to actually hear him talk.
It shouldn't be too bad as long as they don't give him that weird goofy Mascot with Attitude personality he had in the old cartoon and the CD-i games.

Whether Link speaks or not, I figure he should be the strong silent type so that on the rare occasions he does speak, it carries weight.
But making him an actual mute would be interesting. Plus you get disability representation.
Ukrainian Red CrossFor a live action movie I thnk they should go with Skyward Sword for the baisis of the plot. It is one of the few Zeldas where romance was central to the plot. Showed on why the Legend of Zelda is called the "Legend of Zelda". And explains where the master sword came from.
I think Ocarina or Majora would work too.
Hell, one of the early anime designs of Link and gang were from Macross of all places.
