[up]Captain America 4 is also in danger of suffering the same fate as it's undergoing a lot of reshoots, post-production allegedly cut at least 3 major scenes and Sabra's debut may be in danger bec she's a Jewish superhero (and a Mutant) wearing Israel's colors...then 10/7 happened.

If Capt. Marvel found the Skrulls a home, and then it was destroyed, and the Marvels ended with Fury promising to find the Skrulls a new home, that would have worked better.

The movie being delayed for reshoots is supposedly due to poor test screenings. It also resulted in Ant-Man being brought forward, which may be responsible for some of the problems with that movie. There have been some speculation about what was cut, and while it is certain that stuff was cut (the movie was shortened) it is a secret what was cut. One source said that silly stuff was cut, while others think it was more political messaging. I think it was probably more likely silly stuff, because that tends to be the issue with the latest Marvel movies.

There has been a lot of shuffling. What's been the deal with that?

I think there's no real "one point" where things went off the rails.

It seems neither movie was well-tied into theme wise or by the people behind the scenes.

So I saw this movie last two weeks, and it was pretty okay for me although I kind of didn't take the main villain seriously because of her motive and her appearance IMO and although I like the new costume Monica and Ms. Marvel, I don't like the final costume of Captain Marvel and the costume of alternative Maria Rambeau/Binary. I am weirded out about the Aladna planet scene because I'm not a huge fan of musicals sometimes. And this movie has some nice fanservice to it when in The Stinger they bring back Beast from X-Men Film Series. Lastly, I love the scene where the Flerkens swallowing scientists alive to evacuate the S.A.B.E.R. station while the song from Cats is playing, it's hilarious.

Ok moving on, I have one question for those who watch Kdrama, what are your guys' thoughts on Park Seo-Joon being in this movie as a person who sometimes watches Kdrama including What's Wrong with Secretary Kim? where Park Seo-Joon is in there?

Variety did an article about the problems that Marvel is facing since post Endgame. Some of the problems started before for then. Iron Man 1 never had a finished script for example, and Marvel got into the bad habit of fixing movies post production with CGI. That is expensive and creates a lot of time pressure and doesn't always work.

Especially after Ragnarok the MCU leaned into the comedy, at the expense of drama and character development and general seriousness. Although, Age of Ultron had already started to satirize itself.

The end of the Infinity Saga left Marvel looking like they didn't have a plan. Over time it appears that Marvel were hiring less experienced writers and directors. Disney has hiring quotas for diversity which meant they had to hire younger inexperienced writers. Da Costa, the director of The Marvels, is the youngest director and her previous movies were nothing like a Marvel movie. Presumably assistant directors played a big role in the making of the CGI and the action scenes. Feige or someone else besides the director then took the lead in the post production.

Feige seems to have dropped the ball on quality control. I don't know if it was too many projects or just being too busy celebrating, or if he was never good at his job in the first place. A big reason for the budget problems for She-Hulk was that he gave the show runner poor instructions on how much She-Hulk to have.

I think claiming the issue stems from "diversity hiring quotas" is misaimed. And DaCosta's age and prior resume being "nothing like a Marvel movie" isn't a vital factor either. Ryan Coogler's movies before Black Panther or the Russos' movies before The Winter Soldier to the Infinity Saga are all completely unlike the MCU. DaCosta and Coogler both directed their respective movies at 31.

One thing I’d really love is a video of Kamala’s fantasy sequence at the start of the film. Also the animation studio who worked on it and maybe the name of the sequence’s director and storyboard artists.

I don't think Da Costa is to blame for the problems with The Marvels, because I don't think she had that much creative control. Marvel is known for not giving directors a lot of creative freedom. She said in an interview that she didn't know what was happening in some scences. That is probably do to the heavy use of green screens.

My understanding is that most of the problems have to do with the screenplay, which Da Costa did help write, but how much is unknown. Either way, a lot of decisions are made higher up than the directors and that is also where the responsibility lies.

Da Costa herself said that it's was Feige's movie. A more experienced director might have had the clout to push against Feige's bad ideas, but I doubt it.
