Marvel's The Marvels

A customary spoiler thread, so we can discuss the movie without flooding the main MCU thread in spoilers.

Final trailer came out today:

Finally I feel excited to see this film.

Was going to see it anyway but now I am excited to see it.

Okay so that’s the villain’s gimmick, she’s an energy absorber.

I was wondering about that because the previous trailers didn’t give much idea of what the macguffin enhancements are aside from getting generically stronger.

I don't hate Captain Marvel, but something about the space/cosmic side of Marvel always turns me off. Never really liked The Guardians or Eternals either funny enough.

Whatever the case, I'm much more interested in the cosmic side of the MCU than the multiverse.

Same.

I have no interest in Kang but would watch the hell out of a Cosmo the Space Dog, Howard the Duck, or Nova movie.

And I love the Marvel women.

The cosmic side of Marvel has seen in Guardians was pretty fun IMO. It had a mania to it that it's felt to me like Star Wars has largely retreated from. More desert planets? Give me quantum asteroid fields and living planets. We didn't see much of other planets in Captain Marvel, so I hope this one continues to embrace the mania.

If anything I say we could use more cosmic stuff, I think Guardians and CM are the only films that really explore the space setting.

Come on bring in Nova and Silver Surfer movies.

I'd argue Thor is space stuff, not god stuff.

At least in Ragnarok.

And I am intrigued by this "hole in space" thing—especially because, if I'm reading correctly between the lines, they're teasing it as a source for some sort of change in the setting.

If I had to guess, I'd say the "hole in space" thing is probably going to be the Negative Zone. It's an antimatter universe that exists alongside our matter universe, best known for producing the villain Annihilus. Typically appears in Fantastic Four stuff but it's been involved in some Cosmic Marvel jaunts as well, most notably the massive crossover event Annihilation that reinvigorated Cosmic Marvel.

It's also involved with the Quantum Bands, which is what a lot of us thought Kamala's bangle was supposed to be. The Quantum Bands were a pair of armbands that, when clacked together, would cause Rick Jones in the matter universe to swap places with Captain Marvel in the antimatter universe - not unlike the mysterious teleporting thing that seems to be going on with the three Marvels in this film.

Worse than Flash is a black eye for Marvel.

Fingers crossed it has good legs and a strong following on Disney Plus.

I hate that over 100 million dollars is considered a dud by this point. Something needs to change.

Lower budget and reshoots would save them money right there.

Well thats what happens when you make a film that's 220 million dollars.

It's also short. like 1hr 40 as well, which is something the director is proud of, apparently.

Is this one of the ones the pandemic inflated the budget of? Or is it after that, really something weird going on budget wise.

Could be. If it is, I shudder to think what the final budget for Deadpool 3 is.

Supposesly this film was meant to take place AFTER Secret Invasion. Considering the rewrites in that show ...yeah....

I swear, every line from Samuel L Jackson in this is reused audio from the first Avengers movie.

Well, except for "black girl magic!" That's clearly new.

Fandango's running a promotion that takes $15-22 dollars off an IMax ticket with "MARVELMONDAYS" or "MARVELMONDAY" (though it works on a theater chain's Discount Tuesdays).

That's neat at least, considering current ticket prices are high.
