This is the first time I saw a redirect to a Referenced by... subpage being listed as a trope... What's the best course of action then? I bet these should've been moved as Shout-Out examples first (on the pop culture pages that do the referencing) before that link became a redirect. Or is the Shout-Out to Shakespeare link allowed to be used like that, and should we just leave its examples as-is? Perhaps they can also be crosswicked to ReferencedBy.William Shakespeare to salvage them in the easier way?
Based on the ATT query and those who replied, it has been suggested that ideally, we dewick Shout-Out to Shakespeare in at least two steps each link:
Shout-Out to Shakespeare links that were still being listed as trope examples in a fictional work's page would be moved as Shout-Out examples instead (to a Shout-Out trope, or a Shout-Out page if the work already had a separate tab for it).
Afterwards, "Crosswick" or copy-paste the example from the fictional work's page to the ReferencedBy.William Shakespeare or one of its necessary sub-pages. This way, it would also help in populating/updating that Referenced by... page for examples that are not yet there.
Example
Using the Toradora! example I mentioned above, if it originally looked like this:
Then the steps would be: 1. Move it as a Shout-Out example on the Toradora! page, because there's already an existing list for Shout-Out examples there. It would look like this:
In episode 4, the class recites one of Touchstone's lines from As You Like It for their English assignment.
2. Afterwards, find the appropriate location to copy the work's example somewhere to the ReferencedBy.William Shakespeare page or its subpages. This needs looking into the context, or it can be easily done if the Shakespearean work is already mentioned in the example. Since the Toradora! example links Shakespeare's As You Like It, that would be copied to the specific ReferencedBy.As You Like It page. Notice that there's no "Anime and Manga" folder for the latter page yet; after it would be made, crosswicking will be easily done to that folder.
This is where we can be stuck for a while, as at best, we'll need to rewrite that sentence mentioning it or find a more appropriate link replacement. However, a faster way would just be to replace the Shout-Out to Shakespeare mention with something like "references to William Shakespeare". The Captain Earth example would then look like this:
Furthermore, there may also be times when the replacement could be another more-specific Shakespeare-related trope example instead of simply using Shout-Out, like Shakespeare in Fiction for trope examples where Shakespeare himself appears as a fictional character. Now, I'm not entirely sure if we would discuss such examples on a case-by-case basis, determining if they would go to Shout-Out, Shakespeare in Fiction, or both.
Crossposting from this ATT query I made involving the link Shout-Out to Shakespeare.
Thing is, there are more than 500 pages still linking Shout-Out to Shakespeare, including several works that still list it as if it's a trope. For instance, Toradora! still has this:
