Museum Plaza

Suddenly the robots stood still. Those who weren't turned to scrap sat to attention, incandescent bulbs blinking in and out, as though they had received a signal. The few remaining bots amscrayed, smashing the nearest wall and waddling towards freedom. The civilians who weren't already unconscious saw their chance. They ran towards the exit, not even giving the heroes a second glance. More concerned with saving their skins than expressing gratitude. But who could blame them?

It was a fool's hope. Wailing sirens blared in the distance, growing closer with each passing second. The cops rolled in, rushing out from their vehicles, surrounding the perimeter with their presence. The Foundation's work was done, but what remained was left for the police to handle.

Out of the leading vehicle, a strange man stepped forth. He fiddled with his suit, white as snow, the wind gently brushing against his fedora. He pulled out his notebook, jotting down notes without missing a beat, slipping it back in his pockets with honed precision. He strolled towards the museum, hands neatly folded against his back, whistling Sinatra as he approached. Even with the museum in shambles he was oddly serene. Such devastation would give most people pause, but he wasn't bothered in the least. He walked towards the blue building, confident the situation was suitably resolved, ready for some questioning.

But not everyone was so cheerful. Far away from the museum, a drone flew in the clouds above, watching the events unfold. At this altitude they were safe from detection. Their only visitors with crows and eagles, too busy with their daily struggles to give it the time of the day. But it didn't care. It observed the mayhem, cold and unfeeling, optic lens piercing through the cloud cover with keen interest.

And then it screamed.

There was little fear of discovery, but whoever was watching wasn't pleased. The drone zipped away, zooming towards the distance, their operator seething in anger.

Red Building

"V-very well..."

Gilgamesh did as she was told. She'd been so strong, so fearless, so commanding. But the cracks were beginning to show. The more she worried about the artefact, the more her power and mystique faded away, crumbling to dust. She cursed her own failings, but this wasn't something she wanted to talk about.

Laying down in the corner was a member of the staff. She resembled an archaeologist more than a curator, her vest and cargo pants putting Indiana Jones to shame. She soon came to, holding her head as she breathed.

"Oh my stars and garters... did someone get the number of that truck? I feel as though my head's been run through a strainer..."

Blue Building

Suddenly the cheetah stopped. It heard the call, staring towards the freshly made opening. It would have run, but it was too little too late. Seymour struck true, knocking their head clean off, the cheetah's body collapsing in a heap.

Yellow Building

At first glance the sceptre seemed unremarkable. A small purple orb sat up top, sitting on a stone staff, sculpted to perfection. The orb was pretty, but if money was what the robots were after, there wasn't much to be found.

As Tasha turned the sceptre over, the orb seemed to shimmer. She could feel a presence washing over her, caressing her, calling her. It was almost intoxicating. All she had to do was touch it...

Overtaker - Red Building

"Nice outfit you got on there," Overtaker remarked happily to the staff member coming to. "Any chance you know what this is?" She held up the bracelet. "It's what the robots were trying to steal."

Museum, Blue Building

"Phew, looks like that's all the bots taken care of and we even kept the..."

Al wandered over to check out the artifact in Giorgia's arms.

"Whatever this item of unknown and possibly mystic providence is. A good first showing for all of us brave heroes."

A sage nod from the man who, hopefully unbeknownst to his comrades, hadn't actually done all that much on the fighting front.

It's clearly a case of backroom political albumizing.

Blue Building

Noticing he struck the robo-cheetah down, and seeing the robots were routed.

"Oh yeah! We did it, guys!"

Seymour seems quite pumped after the fight.

Capetown Bay, Docks

It had been a busy few days in Capetown. For the new recruits their first adventure was a resounding success. They'd barely been with the Foundation a day and had already made a name for themselves. Most civilians were unharmed and those that weren't were in the best of care. The museum was badly damaged, but it was nothing a bit of construction wouldn't fix. Nor did it dampen the city's gratitude.

The next day twitter was buzzing. Photos and snapshots of the heroes and their derring-do floated around, gossip and speculation running rampant. Tasha and Shao Fei were a hit with the furries, but everyone else had their fans. They hadn't even had their first press conference but already the internet was making connections to their many legacies. They were far from celebrities, but they were on their way.

It wasn't all fun and games. Even as the internet had its fun, the foundation was hard at work. The artefacts were saved, but there were many unanswered questions. Who wanted the artefacts? Who sent the robots? What was their reason for all this? They had their suspicions, but nothing concrete. Mad geniuses were a dime a dozen and so were common thieves. The investigation was underway, but it'd be a bit longer before they got results.

But it wasn't their only concern. The Foundation didn't get involved in politics, but they still kept tabs. Especially during an election year. Thanks to an unfortunate scandal the role of mayor was up for grabs, but most of the candidates weren't stellar. The only one people paid any attention to was Mr.Eisenhart. A businessman of some renown, his candidacy came out of his left, but his feckless charm and spotless record helped propel him through the ranks. A little too spotless. His policies were in the same mold. According to Mr.Eisenhart, under his rule crime and unemployment would be a thing of the past, though he'd failed to say how. Yet his sheer charisma was to enough get people on board. Superheroes and politics were never a good mix, but it wouldn't hurt to look into him.

Regardless of the results, they had learned something important. According to the museum staff the artifacts were supposed to be part of a set, but most had been lost. It was a stroke of luck they'd found them in the ruins of Babylon. Perhaps that was the reason Gilgamesh was so sullen. They'd searched for the others to no avail, but after years of research they had inkling where the next one was. The jury was out on the culprits, but they needed to stay one step ahead. What better way to do that than search for them themselves?

To that end, the heroes of the museum had been called to the docks. Their destination was unknown, but the artefact was their goal. A silver submarine sat near the end, the hatch closed shut, the Foundation's symbol as clear as day. The docks were cold and damp, strong winds breezing past, grey clouds rolling in the distance. It was a gloomy day, but it was better than nothing.

Seymour Greene, The Docks

Seymour had felt a tad nervous from the internet attention he and the other heroes got, from now on, M. Corp would most certainly know where he is now, and potentially go for a recapture attempt sometime and continue their experiments on the elastic plant-person. Seymour really liked his powers, but he did not want to be sent back to those lab cells, surrounded by other experiments.

Seymour also did not trust Mr. Eisenhart on principle. Not from rumors or something like that, but he did not trust businessmen in general after Mammon abducted him and locked him in a lab for a while.

He saw the alert to come to the docks, as well as bits and pieces of the investigation - Seymour has felt much safer with the other heroes, even in the midst of the attack on the museum. As he arrived, he felt a slight shiver from the drafty winds. His physiology did not work well with conventional clothes. Hopefully the submarine was warmer.

Anna Gaines, the Docks

Things had gone well for Anna once everything had wrapped up at the museum. She'd learned from the staff that the bracelet the robots had been after was an artifact from the ruins of Babylon, same as the other artifacts the robots were trying to steal. Anna figured they must do something when brought together, but she had no idea what that might be.

However, Anna was a little worried about all the talk about the Foundation's new heroes, specifically what was being said about her. While there was plenty of positive words about her heroics in taking the bracelet back from the red robot commander, some of the speculation about her legacy was less than ideal. She'd already come across several theories that she was trying to take out the Foundation from the inside or eliminate the new Saint to avenge the original Overtaker. Anna figured there'd be some suspicion about her motives, but the confidence in some of the theories still hurt to read.

This meant that Anna was glad to have a distraction in the search for another Babylonian artifact. That being said, as she arrived at the docks, she was unsure how useful she'd be on this mission. She wasn't exactly skilled at working underwater.

"I'd like to get on that sub, too," she said to Seymour, noticing him shiver. While her suit meant that Anna was pretty warm, she still felt the chill from the wind blowing her ponytail, and she had her hands in her utility belt pouches. "Then we can find out what we'll be doing on this mission. Not sure how many of us make good divers."

The Docks

Al was honestly very thankful that his costume was so covering and cozy; it really was helping with the weather today. Something, however, was on his mind that he wanted to put out into the world.

"I wonder... Should we gather these artifacts, has our foe anticipated it?"

He paced down the dock, towards the submersible and stopped at the bottom of its ladder.

"It would be how I'd do it, make protection of the pieces so tantalizing and then swoop in when the entire set is together... And that's if it even matters who holds the components when they are together, it could simply take effect regardless."

He was definitely trying to be 'wordy' with some anxieties that were brewing in his mind.

It's clearly a case of backroom political albumizing.

Windwing

Okay, so Tae-hyun's first venture into superheroics hadn't gone...as well as he'd hoped it would. And, yeah, his performance had been met with a fair amount of criticism. But that was fine! He'd just do better next time. Failure wasn't the end of the world.

Incidentally, "next time" was right now! In full costume, Windwing eagerly bounced on his heels, seemingly heedless of the cold weather. "Omigosh do you think we're going to Atlantis? Sunken city below the ocean? What do you think the artifact is, a trident a magic pearl stuff from mermaids eeeeee I can't wait!" He pressed his hands to his cheeks and let out an excited squeak.

"Kept me waiting, haven’t you? Tch. No matter. Dawdle all you’d like. In the end, your defeat remains inevitable."

Kyle had been taking his time with what he was supposed to do after all that. He didn't do all that much in the museum, anyway, so he was better off letting others get the bulk of the attention. He'll just have to go on and do what he is good at.

(And ignore some kinds of attention. It was already bad when people were weird about his dad).

That election has him a bit uneasy, since that kinda promises without something substantial behind it would be an invitation for trouble. Even then, he can't do much beyond his part as a voter.

With the cold morning right now, Night Chaser turned into his wolfman form for comfort, even if he likely will need to be human for the space inside that submarine, if only for other's comfort.

"Easy, hotshot" He said to Tae-hyun "Might be more boring than you'd expect"

Will he have to use that function if it comes to it? He'll have to see how it goes.

Wake me up at your own risk.

Docks, Seymour Greene

Seymour saw the other heroes approach the docks, and chuckling slightly at Wildwing's spiel.

"I don't quite know what these artifacts are really going to do if they are all collected, but if we don't get 'em, whoever sent those bots may end up grabbing them before we do."

Seymour then saw the wolfman, turning towards them.

"Good call in this weather. My odd body structure doesn't do too well with clothes."

Maxx - The Docks

Maxx was staring at a smartphone screen, scrolling through threads about the heroes saving the museum via an anonymous account, leaving laudatory comments and staunchly opposing anyone who badmouthed those who defended the Yellow Building. At the same time, he was thinking about his first real superheroic experience and how different it was from practice runs. For one, he was going to have to work on keeping his fire under control in strong winds, and picking more suitable teammates to boot. That said, helping in a real way was an unmistakably good feeling that told him that this was the right path - even if it was going to be more demanding than he had expected.

Overhearing his colleagues, Maxx put the phone in his pocket and walked over. Before, he was standing in a spot shielded from the wind, but out in the open it ruffled his mullet into a red-orange mess. Fortunately, his tightly zipped coat and the trading card being worn under it as a pendant provided enough warmth to make the cold tolerable.

"Maybe the ocean's artifact is a drain plug," Maxx smirked, then looked up at the approaching grey clouds."But whatever it is, we oughtta get going. It looks like rain, and I can't stand that stuff."

Ay, you! It's Gold, and I'm noble!

The Docks

Suddenly the submarine's hatch opened. The ladder led down to a massive hall, bookshelves and red carpets filling the decks with ample luxury. There were chairs and sofas, books and games, maps and tables to keep them busy. It was something out of 40 Leagues, perhaps a Victorian mansion. The centre of the floor was a digital colleague, a shimmering picture of Atlantis itself. Humongous stone spires glittered and glowed, sharp tips raising towards the surface above. It would be even more beautiful if it was real.

As the heroes stared down, the Saint approached. He didn't seem thrilled to be here. If everyone didn't know better they'd swear he had better things to do, but he was here all the same. After the attack on the museum collecting the artefacts was top priority and who better to ensure their safety than the Foundation's top dog?

"Good to see you're all here. Take it your last mission didn't scare you? Did pretty well for a bunch of rookies."

He cricked his neck, standing tall as he shrugged off the chill air. It was cold and clammy, but he couldn't care less.

"Today your goal is to uncover another artifact. The ones we have are safely locked away in our vaults, but we can't risk the others falling into the wrong hands. We're not sure where it is, but according to the staff, the bay is our best bet. Someone down there may be the City of Atlantis. With it, the artefact we seek."

He was straightforward, matter-of-fact, focused on the task at hand. His predecessor was well known for his folksy charm, but any notions of frivolity on his part were a foreign concept. The sooner this was over with, the better.

"Once we're closer we'll rendezvous with Marine Machine. Of all the city's heroes, she's the most suited for this sort of work. That's what they tell me anyway. Any questions before we head down?"

Seymour Greene, The Submarine

Seymour saw the hatch open, and went inside. He immediately awed at the luxurious interior of the submarine.

"Oh wow, this place is amazing!"

Then he saw the Saint, and heard the briefing. Atlantis, huh, guess that hero was right about Atlantis.

"Um, I have a question. What sorta gear do we have for being, well, underwater? I'm assuming we'll have to go outside the submarine at some point."

Anna remained silent as the Saint spoke. He already didn't seem too happy, and she didn't want to risk making his mood worse. Plus, Seymour had already brought up her primary concern about the mission.

Kyle tried to make himself look as professional as he could now. After all, he was in a big presence, but how he managed to keep cool, even if he took advantage of his canine face.

"So, any clue about who we might run into down there?" Worth a shot, he guessed.
