Old Magnificent Bastard thread

Welcome to the Magnificent Bastard proposal thread! This is the thread where new Magnificent Bastard examples are vetted, approved, and written up. If you're looking for the general cleanup thread (for cuts, rewrites, expansions, and the like), please go here

Important: Before suggesting any new examples, please read the Frequently Asked Questions and Common Requests List; if you have any questions, the odds are high they are answered there. Additionally, please check here for the earliest date a work can be discussed (usually two weeks from the U.S. release date) and whether the work has already been reserved by another user.

Here is how the process works:

    Process

  1. If you have a candidate to propose, you can simply come right in and propose them! If the character's run is brief, such as a single issue of a comic book, then a simple summary of their actions and any potential mitigating features will be enough; for longer-running candidates, an effortpost (EP) might be helpful for organizing the proposal. An EP is not outright required, but please be mindful that if a post becomes too clunky and unorganized, it can be very hard for other people to follow.

  2. After the proposal, there will be a 72-hour discussion and voting period, where people may ask questions and vote on the candidate. The number of upvotes must outnumber the downvotes by at least five for the character to be considered "approved".

  3. Three days after the proposal has been made, if the character has been approved, you may post the writeup (the text to be posted on the trope page itself) on the thread and send it to the drafts page. Your candidate will soon be added to the MB subpage. If the work has a page, you should add your candidate to the relevant YMMV page. Voila! It's that simple!

Outside of this process, we do have a few ground rules:

    Ground Rules

  1. To keep the thread moving at a reasonable pace, there are some restrictions on when a proposal can be made. There should only be a maximum of four EPs posted both per page and per hour to ensure that nothing gets lost in the shuffle; additionally, each individual troper should only be proposing or writing up characters from a maximum of three works at a time (from initial proposals to end of their voting period). If your proposal would fall outside of either of these guidelines, we'd like to ask you to please wait until they would fit within; feel free to type them up on an outside document, and then when the time comes, you can just copy, paste, and post!

  2. No plagiarism of any kind. This is a very serious matter site-wide, as the website could get in actual legal trouble over this; as a result, this can very quickly lead to mod intervention. This can take many different forms:
    1. Direct plagiarism, i.e. wholesale copying. This is not only the easiest to find, but is also the most likely to warrant quick moderator intervention. To be clear, quoting in some places is perfectly acceptable, but it has to be very clear you're quoting from something else and it cannot be anything longer than a sentence or two - if you're quoting an entire work summary from Wikipedia, no one is going to believe you've actually consumed the work, so even if you cite your source, your candidate will be downvoted anyway.
    2. Self-plagiarism. Even if you can prove that you wrote the same text in both places, the site itself can't contain any of the duplicated text. If you already wrote something once before, it's not too hard to write it a second time.
    3. Using another site's work as a template for a proposal. Just because you don't copy and paste something directly doesn't mean it's any harder to detect if you're basing parts or all of your proposal on text someone else wrote. To be clear, this doesn't violate site rules and won't lead to mod intervention, but just like if you directly plagiarize, no one will believe you've consumed the work if you're clearly basing your proposal on something else. This thread largely operates on the honor system, and tweaking someone else's work to pass it off as your own is one of the fastest ways to lose trust.

  3. Votes must be for specific candidates, meaning no blanket voting (i.e. "yes to everyone I missed").

  4. If you are the first person to downvote a candidate, please provide an explanation of why when you do so. We're here for discussions above all, and a hit-and-run downvote doesn't facilitate anything.

  5. If a work is already reserved by another user, please don't comment on the work or any potential characters worth discussion before the discussion date. We know how exciting it is when a work has a keeper that you're waiting to talk about, but it's not fair to the person who reserved the work who is just as excited to lead the discussion to see the discussion getting spoiled before they get to do it. On the other hand, if the reservation only has one name attached, shoot them a PM - they may be down for a collaboration, which will get you in on the fun as well!

  6. Please keep the thread on-topic. While discussing the trope is fun and we encourage people to enjoy it, questions like "who's your favorite MB" are off-topic and can lead to thumps. That's the kind of question to take to people's PMs if they're willing. Similarly, while we encourage friendliness and familiarity with other users, posts should always have some kind of thread-relevant purpose; for instance, if you want to wish someone a happy birthday, feel free to, but if it's the only thing in the post, it's off-topic and needs something else alongside it. Again, though, while we strive for a friendly atmosphere, this is not Facebook; life updates are fun, but unless they have some kind of impact on your thread participation, please do not bring it here - we have Yack Fest for that.

  7. Please refrain from asking anything along the lines of "How Did We Miss This One?" In almost every case, the answer is simply "No one thought about it before". This Is a Wiki where everyone has different interests, and the fact that people missed a particular candidate, even one that seems like a textbook example of a trope or a character who is particularly iconic in pop culture, means absolutely nothing. The question is disruptive, has a simple and consistent answer, and provides nothing to any discussion.

  8. If you are suspended from other parts of the website, it is still possible to participate!
    1. For users who are suspended from editing the wiki, you still have full access to this thread. You can propose candidates and write them up with no issues whatsoever; while you will have to ask someone else to post the entry to the relevant pages once it is done, all write-ups are considered thread-approved - as in, done by consensus - and thus doing so does not violate any rules regarding meatpuppeting.
    2. If you are suspended from the forums, your participation is limited but not impossible. It is still possible for a forum-suspended user to assist in creating the write-up for a character who has already been approved; as previously mentioned, write-ups are inherently considered a consensus-based edit and thus not tied to any one particular user. However, you can not assist in the proposal of a character; as a proposal is based around the forum rather than the wiki, doing so with a forum suspension qualifies as meatpuppeting.

  9. Please keep all discussions "in-house".
    1. What other wikis use for MB equivalents is irrelevant here.
    2. Please be wary of using other wikis, Fandom or otherwise, as sources of information. They are just as fallible as a site like Wikipedia in regards to accuracy because they can be edited by any user, just as this site can.
    3. Do not attempt to force a communication with an author in an attempt to gather evidence or settle a debate; besides the fact that this is a YMMV trope and thus author intent has variable weight depending on the circumstance, doing so may cross the line into drama exportation, which is prohibited site-wide.

If you would like to use an EP for your candidate, here's the general format. This format does not have to be followed exactly, but these are the main topics that need to be covered:

    Effortpost Template

What is the work?

This is a brief summary of the work you're going to discuss. We don't need a full plot summary here, just however much we need to understand going into the discussion — it can even be as simple as quoting the summary on the work's page.

Who is the candidate and what have they done?

This is essentially the character's biography — who they are, their story, their goals and methodology, and, preferably (though not required), what happens to the candidate at the end. It does not have to include every single thing they ever do — for some characters, we'd be here all day if that was the case — but it should include the highlights of their journey.

How are they Magnificent?

This is the point where you highlight the character's brilliance. How to they convey their intelligence and charm to the audience? What makes them stand out among the crowd? What are their goals and how do they go about accomplishing them? This part welcomes a lot of creative thinking — not everyone has to be a Machiavellian Diabolical Mastermind to be worth considering here! This is also the time to showcase how the character can think on their feet if it's necessary.

How are they a Bastard? How are they not too bad?

What kinds of moral lines is this character willing to cross for the sake of their goal? Are they willing to let innocents die? Start wars? Commit crimes? The character has to show some kind of unscrupulousness in order to count as a "Bastard". Notably, this character does not necessarily have to be the villain, and an Anti-Hero can cross the line if they're immoral enough, but they have to be immoral somehow.

This is also the section where you then state your case for why they're not too bad. Perhaps their good intentions help mitigate their crimes. Perhaps others are shown to be much worse than them. Perhaps they're prone to Pet the Dog moments or are even fighting on behalf of loved ones. Whatever the case, there are certain lines that an MB can't cross, but as long as their villainy is reasonable for their goal, they can be considered.

Final verdict?

This is where you post your final conclusion on the character in question. You can continue elaborating on your reasons or even just say a simple "yes" or "no"; at this point, we've heard everything we need to hear.

And that's everything you need to know. Welcome to the thread!

Wait, are we sure Loopty actually wanted just to reunite with his friend from the beginning? 'Cause maybe it's just me misremembering the episode, but I could've sworn he actually just wanted to kill and changed his mind later on.

I don't recall that being the case; he acts like he wants him dead out of spite in the beginning but when he reappears at the end he reveals that he just wanted to be reunited with Lyle.

Ok having done an EP in the CM thread related to a Fallout related fan project and in light of the Fallout tv show and its' CM/MB effortposts happening tomorrow, here is a possible MB from one of the best mods for Fallout 4, adding a route that a large chunk of fans have long since wanted for Fallout's most openly villainous faction—at least until the show, which reveals a faction that is already VERY despicable and somewhat tied to the Enclave as possibly EVEN more villainous and much more despicable.

What is the Work?

America Rising 2: Legacy of the Enclave is a Game Mod for Fallout 4 that adds a clearly villainous route for the game for those that felt the base game was heavily lacking in villain routes. It sees the sole survivor team up with the Enclave, a Fascist offshoot of the United States government that was responsible for its' shift into a far-right oligarchy before the bombs fell. This is the same group that tried to destroy humanity in two straight Fallout games over genetic impurity and has one member of the Enclave, back before they devolved into total genocidal maniacs and at least didn't have their screws all lose yet, want to engineer a humanity-ending event to get back into China. So yeah, not good fellows, but hey, they're Evil Is Cool and Love to Hate personified, so what's not to like?

Bascically the Sole Survivor finds a bunch of cryogenically frozen Enclave military officials, unfreeze them, and help them build a power base around ANOTHER Oil Rig. However, once they link up with Enclave Remnants still and get tools that can potentially help them destroy humanity, it is discovered they are still committed to their genocidal ideology and the Sole Survivor must choose to unleash the horrors they planned to unleash on the Wasteland or oppose their plans. Opposing their plans sees the Sole Survivor link up with a dissident faction of the Enclave around our candidate.

Who is our Candidate?

Colonel Morgan Whitehill is an Enclave Remnant situated in an abandoned Oil Rig that the unfrozen Enclave remnants take control of. She has survived the events of the Capital Wasteland and has a degree of resentment for the political leadership of the Enclave for leading it from one defeat to another. The Oil Rig was a site for Forced Evolutionary Virus experiments to be used to create a bioweapon to destroy all of humanity for their genetic impurities. Whitehill's resentment of the Enclave's leadership is tied to the experiments with the FEV killing many of her fellow soldiers and turning many into ghouls on the Oil Rig. She is implied to have survived there for years, reading up on books on military strategies and tactics, and is familiar with the unfrozen Enclave leadership from the books she read dating back to before the bombs fell, so seeing them alive surprised them.

Whitehill spends most of the Enclave storyline gathering her men and other Oil Rig survivors on the Wasteland to the Enclave's side. We see that she cares for her men, expresses affection for her soldiers when she sees them. She hopes that a new Enclave will be a safe haven for all those that have survived the various wars that battered the Enclave; this puts her into direct conflict with General Ward, whom sees the rebuilt Enclave as a means to kickstart a new crusade against the Wasteland and potentially "impure" humanity itself.

Whitehill truly comes to prominence in the story's final act. Throughout the game the player gathers the means to create a new variant of the FEV virus. Eventually, the remnants of the political leadership of the Enclave under Senator Matthews and an FEV researcher known as Dr.Kane. Whitehill fears Matthews will not only seek to become president but plan out another mass genocide on the entire world.

She tells the Sole Survivor of the Enclave’s genocidal goals and the player can go for the bad ending and turn on her, or side with her and plan a coup. If the Sole Survivor agrees with her plans for the coup, she goes into hiding so the coup won’t be traced back to her. The player sneaks aboard the oil rig and sabotages General Ward and Senator Matthews Vertibird, which plunges into the ocean and drowns them as a result. The deaths of the Enclave leadership gives her an opening to seize control and cancel the extensive research into the FEV. While allowing Kane to continue with her experiments and the FEV to be weaponized for the purporse of small scale weapons like chemical grenades despite Dr.Kane’s willingness to unleashing the FEV on the Commonwealth.

Side Note: Fallout tv series actually proves Whitehill right. On top of Ward and Matthews being genocidal maniacs seeking to destroy humanity being evil in itself, it can be hypothesized with the information from the series that the destruction of all genetically tainted human life won't help pure humans rebuild America, rather it will kill everything and allow the true puppetmasters of the Great War whom could give the Enclave itself a run for the money in the evil department: Vault-Tec itself, to repopulate the Earth with its super managers with everyone dead on the surface and destroy all national identities except one horrific corporate dystopia.

Following her coup, terminals in her quarters reveal that she became aware of a Brotherhood of Steel plan to storm the Enclave Oil Rig. The terminals reveal she put the troops on high alert, giving them the initiative in preparing and repelling the attack.

After the victory over the Brotherhood and either the capture or destruction of the Institute, along with the destruction of the remnants of The Railroad. Whitehill makes a New Era Speech stating that with key strategic areas captured, the Commonwealth will be forced to see them as their new rulers and that the Enclave will finally rise as a major power in the wasteland yet again.

Is Whitehill Magnificent?

Whitehill has spent years being trapped on an Oil Rig and holding out on her own against various ghouls, learning from various pre-war war manuals as to finding a way to survive. This allows her to get a good grasp of battle tactics or how her enemies act, and gives her the opportunity to plan ahead as indicated by how she became aware of the Brotherhood's planned attack on the Oil Rig. As leader, she focuses less on head-on charges into the enemy and employs strategies to minimize casualties. When the Enclave sympathizer within the Institute come to the Enclave suggesting a coup, Whitehill expresses relief at the possibility that conflict can be averted and the Institute’s technology be used to help the Enclave with their goals. When going against the genocidal leadership of the Enclave, she opts to use a more subtle approach rather than going in guns blazing, having the player kill the leadership by sabotaging General Ward and Senator Matthews Vertibird and using their deaths to seize control. It is also heavily implied that unlike most of the Enclave, she is open to having Wastelanders join the Enclave, with her ending having her reveal in her New Era Speech that "our new arms depot will soon become a barracks for new recruits".

While one of the reasons she is opposed to weaponizing the FEV yet again is because she dosen't want everyone to unite against the Enclave and wipe them out immediately, she is also motivated by a genuine care for her men, she worries that her men, whom have traces of radiation in them, will be killed by the FEV. She saw how the FEV experiments turned most of her squad sans her and a few survivors that made it off the Oil Rig into Ghouls and resents the Enclave leadership for throwing their soldiers as expendable in their quest to achieve total human purity, even as their numbers-already small in the first place-grow less and less with no way to replenish themselves due to the xenophobia of the leadership. This can also be seen in the fact that she expresses joy at seeing survivors from her squad make it off the Oil Rig. She even has a degree of respect for General Ward, only turning on him when he reveals his intention to carry out the destruction of humanity and feeling regret at having to kill him.

Is Whitehill a Bastard?

Make no mistake, Whitehill, even if she opposes the genocidal goals of her superior, still wants to impose a dictatorial regime on the Commonwealth. She still believes in the Enclave as the best choice for the wasteland, and sees the destruction of the Brotherhood presence in the Commonwealth by missiles targeting the Prydwen that were originally supposed to target the Enclave as an example of what happens to anyone that resists. She also still believes the FEV could be used as a very localized biological weapon against raiders and other threats to make things easier for their soldiers, but does not want it weaponized as a tool of global human omnicide, and thus allows Dr.Kane to continue with her experiments.

However, most of the FEV tests are done with a purpose, to make things easier for her men in tackling the threats of the Wasteland rather than wanting to carry out a genocide of humanity on her own terms. This whole thing is consistent with her care for her men and wanting as less deaths on her side as possible. Even the implications of Kane's FEV tests are softened because we only see a couple of dead bodies, and the human trials that she does on a traitor—the traitor has very little radiation on him and thus survives. This significantly dillutes the horror of the tests enough that I can see this as a nonissue.

With regards to her overall plans to establish a dictatorship, its' also mostly skimmed over. There are no scenes of her forces committing war crimes on the civilian population, and the fact that the Prydwen was a military target and her refusal to launch a massive assault on the Commonwealth’s civilian population significantly dilutes the more sinister implications of her proclamation. She does go after the Railroad, but it is mostly tied to the fact that they were a threat to her power base.

Also while Whitehill is part of a Fascist-coded group, we have allowed MBs from Fascist organizations with racist/purist ideals to qualify if they don’t agree or aren’t openly shown agreeing with the genocidal aspects of their ideology or even pull a Even Evil Has Standards over them—Kycilia Zabi from Mobile Suit Gundam and Thrawn in both Star Wars Legends and Canon both come to mind along with Osvald Teshik and Gilad Pellaeon(who is kinda the same sort of character as Whitehill there, through his portrayal goes straight into Token Good Teammate in Legends) along with a couple of SWTOR Sith Empire characters exclusively from Legends.

Verdict

While the "FEV grenades" thing may give some pause, I feel she is worth discussing due to her genuine redeeming qualities, the fact that the implications of her rule that could potentially DQ her are mostly skimmed aside or are mostly threats at most, the fact that even the FEV grenades thing is framed in a way that's more "she has a purpose doing this" over wanton torturing people, and in general her being the A Lighter Shade of Black route Fallout fans have long wanted to see for YEARS with the Enclave AS PART of an Enclave-oriented campaign Fallout fans have never ever gotten from the official games outside of doing your own RP sessions in Fallout 76 along with some fran projects like the Enclave Reborn HOI4 mod and will give her a [tup]

Now that I've got some time, I would like to update you for where I stand on proposals for I Woke Up A Vampire.

The two-week wait limit has passed, meaning I can propose a noteworthy character if I wanted to, but I didn't yet, because I've been so wrapped up in work. But I can tell you this:

  • Dylan Helsing was slightly Out of Focus this season, and had a handful of not-so-graceful/magnificent moments. However, this isn't enough to place him on the cut list, because he doesn't get any real disqualifying moments, and the show's not over yet, so he can still bounce back.
  • I'm thinking about doing a write-up for The Shapeshifter — Carmela/Carmie's biological mother who's led be to the show's Big Bad, but... I'm going to stop here before I spoil too much. Besides, I'm saving it for the actual write-up.

Just wanted to remind you that I'm still active, and I didn't forget about the proposals. See you whatever I've got spare time.

What is the work?

Super Press Space to Win Action RPG 2009 is a Flash game that, much like Linear RPG, attempts to get to the heart of what really makes an "RPG". More specifically, it's a Deconstruction Game that parodies particularly linear RP Gs - all the player has to do is hit space repeatedly, and they'll win.

I also played and loved it as a kid. I was a weird kid.

Who is The Rival and what have they done?

Yes, that is his given name, in the credits.

So, The Rival is the second-in-command to the King, the Big Bad of the game. He first appears at the village where the Hero is sleeping, burning it down to draw out the Hero: "Ah at long last we meet! I knew if I burnt down this village you'd show yourself! Now, prepare to die!"

The Rival and the Hero then engage in a swordfight, evenly matched. The Rival remarks "You're pretty good! We shall meet again!"

Much (actually about 5 minutes) later, once the Hero is storming the castle, the Rival appears again, where this time the Hero gets the better of him. While at first saying "Impossible! No one can defeat me!", he lowers his sword in defeat. "Go on, the King awaits you."

Then once the Hero meets the King and promptly gets his butt kicked, the Rival swoops in to save the Hero, giving him a magical amulet. The King responds by inflicting a fatal attack on him, with the Hero now being able to defeat the King.

In his final moments, the Rival reveals in his final moments that he is the Hero's brother, and dies a solemn, tragic death.

How are they Magnificent?

Okay.

So, this is very much a parody game, and not meant to taken super seriously. That being said... charm-wise, the VA for the Rival gives it his all, and provides a surprisingly confident and captivating voice.

The Rival also never really loses his cool in the two instances you fight him- the closest you get is the "Impossible! No one can defeat me!" line, but shortly after he admits defeat and lets the Hero through.

Finally, intelligence-wise... well, that's a little trickier, but he's shown to be smarter and more pro-active than the King, knowing where the Hero was and burning down the village to smoke him out. In terms of the parody here? I think that's good enough scheming.

He’s also the only enemy you can die to. No, seriously. If you fail the quick-time event during the village burning, you actually die and respawn. That has to count for something, no?

How are they a Bastard? How are they not too bad?

He works for the King, and is perfectly fine with burning down a village. However, there aren't any on-screen deaths because of it, and the village is shown to be fine in the ending. Not to mention he pulls a Heel-Face Turn by the end.

Final verdict?

Like Robbie, this feels like one that shouldn't count, but when I look at it, it lines up to me. I think he's worth a [tup].

Unsure on the Rival, with the "No one can defeat me" line.

Writeup for Talarist.

  • Long Live the Queen fanfic Heavy Is The Crown: Talarist, Duke of Sedna, proves himself a lot more resourceful than his canon counterpart. When his fiancée Princess Elodie is deposed by her own subjects in a vote of no confidence during a gala, Talarist reveals that he has brought with him an entire battalion of well-trained Talassian soldiers in the guise of ordinary servants. At his signal, they shoot Banion, the instigator of the vote, and hold those who followed him at swordpoint. Elodie sentences everyone who voted against her to death and, realizing she desperately needs an ally, tells Talarist they should marry immediately. She understands that it's ambiguous whether Talarist knew of Banion's plot and if not, why he brought the soldiers, but she sees that as things stand now, Talarist is the best ally she has. Always calm and collected and very kind to Elodie despite wanting to marry her for her crown, Talarist is thus able to turn what would have been a coup into a victory for Elodie and himself, and it is implied he genuinely admires Elodie's resilience.

[up][up] I don't consider it a big dent on his magnificence, as he recovers and lets the Hero pass and ends up sacrificing himself to save the Hero's life shortly after.

Yes to Doom 2099, Loopty, Whitehill and Rival.

Considering X-Men 97 is going on and is making a splash, I thought it might be interesting to propose Mr. Sinister from the video game X-Men Legends II. Sinister is brilliant, he betrays Apocalypse and sabotages his machine which allows the X-Men to defeat him. Sinister secretly mind-controls Beast and makes him into a spy without the X-Men's knowledge. The X-Men have to fight a supercomputer based on his intellect and that thing by itself is dangerous.

The problem with Sinister is the usual one, he is a creep. Apocalypse is experimenting on mutants in Genosha to find a certain DNA type to make his machine work, but Sinister plans on performing further experiments after Apocalypse is done, planning on giving these mutants extra eyes and arms. He also experiments on Angel and transforms him into Archangel. Sinister also tortured the superhero Guardian and seemed to take delight in that, he may be too sinister as usual.

How creepy is he portrayed? Is this a situation where Mr.Sinister's experiments aren't shown in the most extreme gruesome detail.

We have a Neverwinter Nights villain who is disgusting in Forgotten Realms canon(apparently some sort of super rapist) that got upvoted as a MB because their disgusting traits are completely omitted in NWN and it isn't canon to the Forgotten Realms canon.

Things have been missed and hectic in this thread for awhile, I'm like 99% sure I posted Magneto's write-up but maybe I failed to actually post it, regardless here it is, and thanks Turles!

  • X-Men Legends: Erik Lehnsherr, Magneto, prides himself on being the ultimate protector of all mutantkind, regardless of the extreme methods he takes. Scheming his escape from captivity alongside his Brotherhood, Magneto steals a variety of military technologies while exposing the heinous hate crimes committed by General Kincaid. Magneto plans to use Asteroid M to blot out the sun, threatening to keep Earth in darkness until humanity grants mutants their own sovereign nation. Though beaten by the X-Men, Magneto returns in the sequel, where he teams up with the X-Men to stop the greater threat of Apocalypse, using his powers and intelligence to help the heroes gain victory. Upon Apocalypse's defeat, Magneto parts ways with the X-Men peacefully, but promises to never end his ruthless quest to bring mutant acceptance by force.

Much as on the CM thread, I've got a few potentials from the Red Dead games. Lemme start us off with...

Who is Red Harlow? What makes him a candidate?

  • The Anti-Hero protagonist of Red Dead Revolver, Red Harlow was once a happy kid living on a ranch with his father Nate and mother Falling Star, until his parents were slain by bandits. Red narrowly escaped death by grabbing a pistol from a flame and blasting off the arm of one of the gangsters, in the process searing the pistol handle's scorpion sigil into his palm.
  • Becoming a lone Bounty Hunter who would kill entire cartloads of men to turn them in, Red slowly works towards finding those responsible for his parents' deaths. He follows rumors of a one-armed man to the town of Brimstone, ruled by the corrupt Governor Griffon, and hears tales of a rogue Generalissimo named Diego who plagues the lands. Red finds out that Diego and Griffon are the ones who murdered his parents, so he tracks Diego down to his mining lair in the deep forest, where he kills his way through Diego's men before being temporarily captured. Rescued by Shadow Wolf—his "cousin" from Falling Star's Red Wolf tribe—Red carves a path of destruction through Diego's forces before killing Diego himself after getting more information from him.
  • Red then enters a "shooting competition" run by Griffon to get close to him and whittle down Griffon's gunfighters. Amassing a team of fellow gunfighters he saved through the game, Red leads an assault on Griffon's fortified mansion, confronting Griffon personally and killing him.
  • Offered a hefty reward for winning the shooting competition and killing Griffon, Red instead leaves the money to his allies—ending the game walking off while remarking "It was never about the money."

Is he magnificent?

Absolutely. Badass gunfighter; stealth killer; and tracker who is an infamous bounty hunter, and spends the game wiping out the villainous Diego and Griffon's forces, forming alliances, and then killing those who murdered his family. He ends the game totally successful and riding off into the sunset.

Is he a bastard?

Typical Western Anti-Hero who kills freely and ruthlessly without much concern for what his bounties have done, threatens bank managers when they don't have his bounties on-hand, and at one point he comes across a man held captive by criminals asking for help—Red shrugs him off as "not my problem" until finally choosing to save him solely to get his help in a firefight.

Final Verdict?

Keep!
