So, we already know that IDW is losing the license to both Transformers and G.I. Joe. So, how would this affect the company as a whole since they are losing two of their biggest I Ps?
I love animation, TV, movies, YOU NAME IT!How is the company doing in terms of sales?
This is a chart showing the sales of IDW.◊
I love animation, TV, movies, YOU NAME IT!Did their licenses expire or is there some other reason why they lost GI Joe and Transformers? I read that they lost some Star Wars stuff too.
The Protomen enhanced my life.I'm not sure how they let the license expire for G.I. Joe and Transformers. Was it because they didn't have the money to keep them?
I love animation, TV, movies, YOU NAME IT!I think it was a money thing on Hasbro's end, actually.
Disney100 Marathon | DreamWorks MarathonOh, so Hasbro pulled the plug from these properties?
I love animation, TV, movies, YOU NAME IT!IDW “goes dark” on the NYSE, lays off 39% of their staff
The moves come after months of losses for the company in most business sectors, as reported in SEC filings. IDW stock opened at $0.82 cents but plunged to $0.47 as the announcement circulated.
While the PR did not specifically mention other layoffs among the 39% of the workforce laid off, The Beat has learned that the entire marketing and PR staff and half of editorial have been let go, including publisher Nachie Marsham. We are working to get names of remaining staff, and information on the fate of imprints such as Top Shelf, as well as details on the editorial reorganization.
Damn. Looks like time is just about up for IDW.

"One of the editors let go was Group Editor Tom Waltz, who has been with IDW since 2006. Waltz is also one of IDW's top writers, with his hit miniseries, Teenage Mutant Ninjat Turtles: The Last Ronin, being a major bright spot for the company last year. So he explained that while he is no longer an editor at IDW, he is still continuing to work for IDW. He released a statement on social media explaining his unique situation:
My final day as an official IDW employee (currently my position is Group Editor/Creative Development) will be May 12th. However, my situation is unique in that I've spent nearly the last year and a half functioning more as talent for the company than as an editor. Which means, my separation will only affect my official editorial status. I will continue working freelance with IDW as a writer/consultant on all things #TMNT (including #The Last Ronin / #Roninverse), as well as writing for other licensed and creator-owned projects for the company.
This is a multi-year contractual agreement that was reached both amicably and in absolute good faith (the great folks at IDW were very generous in their efforts to keep me in the fold). In other words, I will continue all my current creative functions at IDW (and then some). It is only the Group Editor aspect that will be removed. And trust me, we've got so many cool things in the works and planned, especially on the TMNT front. Look for huge news soon."

Oh! That's good! I thought that they were going to get rid of Tom Waltz completely, but thankfully, he's still around writing the Ninja Turtles comics!
I love animation, TV, movies, YOU NAME IT!My pick ups are fairly high on the IDW front as of current. Been picking up IDW Sonic the Hedgehog and the MLP monthly based off the current Gen and the Reimagined Classics line.
As of recent, Star Trek 2022 (Like the long Kelvinverse comic it has no additional titling, but started last November) and Star Trek Defiant.
Also the Dungeons & Dragons mini, and currently the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles VS Street Fighter mini.
Haven't followed the IDW Turtles stuff much (Aside from their MMPR crossovers), but they include the Turtle Jennika.
Other than that any sign if that mini is based on a particular TMNT or SF continuum?
So, IDW is going to have a panel at SDCC and it will include panels for Sonic the Hedgehog, Star Trek and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
I love animation, TV, movies, YOU NAME IT!am I the only one surprised they haven't crossover sonic with anything yet considering how much IDW clearly love it's crossovers
I'm surprised about that too. All the other comics had crossovers, so how come Sonic hasn't had a crossover yet? I mean, when Sonic was with Archie, they had a crossover comic with Sabrina the Teenage Witch at one point.
I love animation, TV, movies, YOU NAME IT!and image comics too, that's where the infamous sonic and spawn panel comes from.
Oh yeah, I forgot Sonic had a crossover with Image Comics.
I love animation, TV, movies, YOU NAME IT!What?!
With Nickelodeon now having Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Transformers, there hasn't been a better time to have a crossover. Image owns the rights to Transformers comics now. The convenience of everything being under one roof, it annoys me that it's gone.
Read 30 Days of Night recently. It was fun, great concept, though the characters were forgettable.
Scott Dunbier is leaving IDW after 16 years to hopefully form his own publishing company.
The Protomen enhanced my life.IDW keeps losing their staff...

I don't think there was a thread made for IDW comics in general, so here's a thread where we can talk about the comic book company IDW in general.
