A thread offering assistance and support for tropers covering Marvel's many, many stories and characters.
This includes the shared Marvel Universe, but not the cultural Disney juggernaut known as the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). One of our aims is to disentangle tropes and characters from the MCU adaptations from pages about their source material.
This scope does cover Marvel comic, manga and webcomic stories, characters and tropes that are unconnected to that shared Marvel Universe - e.g. their licensed Star Wars, Alien and Predator stories.
As of September 2021, there were about 27,000 Marvel comics published across 4,900 or so different series. They started publishing in the 1940s as Timely Comics, then became Atlas Comics and - eventually - Marvel. As a consequence, Marvel have a lot of Comic Book and Characters pages on the site (and have recently started publishing Webcomics as well).
The sheer scale of this means that there's so much material (with dozens of new comics added each week) that no one troper is likely to own or read all of it - especially as there are big gaps in what's available digitally or reprinted (and licensed characters and legal issues mean that certain stories may never be reprinted at all).
And that can make troping their shared universe pretty tricky - even Marvel's own creative teams have been known to lose track now and then.
We've got tropers busily revising existing pages, while others add new information weekly as new comics are published. This thread's here to help with any queries that generates, to focus work on particular pages that could use improvement, and to help ensure that we tackle works page names and other aspects in a consistent way that makes sense to readers navigating between different Marvel-related pages (as well as following best practice for the wiki as a whole).
Feel free to post here to draw attention to relevant posts or threads elsewhere - e.g. if examples, images, captions and quotes, or spoiler policies for these pages are under discussion.
There are existing threads and standard guidelines for those topics (e.g. Image Pickin' has its own, very structured, process), and this shouldn't duplicate any of that - but tropers reading this thread may wish to vote or comment once they know about those discussions.
- If there's a consistent creative team, they should be named in the introduction. Ideally, include inkers and colorists as well as other artists.
- The page image doesn't always have to be the first issue cover.
- Pages for arcs, runs and events should include the relevant titles and issue numbers.
- Pages should include start and end dates in the introduction
- Links regarding particular characters (e.g. Wolverine) should go to their Characters page, not their ComicBook page.
- As a rule, characters in Marvel Universe continuity only get one Character page profile, regardless of how many different series they appear in. However:
- Alternate Universe and Bad Future variants may justify their own profile, and sometimes the same can be said for Split Personality scenarios.
- It may be appropriate to add a character to a relevant Character page with an intro and a link to their full profile on another page (e.g. many villains have been major characters in several different series)
- Creation of any new Character Specific Pages, and proposals to merge any of them back into other pages, should go via the Character Specific Pages cleanup thread, but it's worth posting here as well.
- If you're splitting, merging or moving characters between different Character pages, it's worth checking with the Character Page Cleanup thread as well as posting here.

Since Kid Venom already debuted in Death of the Venomverse would it be worthwhile to create a page for him or wait until more info about the standalone series comes out?
EDIT: turns out Kid Venom: Origins is just a TPB reprint of the side-stories from Death of the Venomverse. Given that, I'll just add him to the Venomverse characters page.

Launched Superior Spider-Man (2023), so we probably need to disambiguate the 2013 series. The recent one-shot leads straight into the new series, so might be worth covering it on the same page?
Made a page for King Thor, the Grand Finale of Jason Aaron's Thor saga.
Looking at Wolverine (1982), the original Claremont/Miller limited series, which gets a Happy Ending Override in the main Uncanny X-Men title, it's got this in the intro:
Should the Wolverine page cover the Wolverine series and let Uncanny X-Men cover the rest?

I agree with everything above. Also I made a sandbox for the 2018 superior Spider-Man series.
It's gonna be fun on the bun!
I forgot we had a 2018 as well - so the current one becomes a disambig/umbrella page, with links to the 2013, 2018 and 2023 ones?
Yep, I'd say so. I've got Sandbox.Superior Spider Man 2013 up and running for anyone to take a look at. I've also got Sandboxes for the following characters that need work before they can be launched.
The Gwen Stacy page needs some work done to update all the tropes about the now retconned Sins Past tropes.
It's gonna be fun on the bun!I guess we can keep them, with caveats? As they were true until they weren't, due to retcons and shifting continuity.
Yeah, they should be kept, but updated to include the retcons.
It's gonna be fun on the bun!So as predicted, Captain Krakoa in Uncanny Avengers (2023) was revealed to be Hydra Cap, or Hydra Supreme as he is called in his folder in the Marvel Comics: Hydra. Now I made a folder for him pre reveal in X-Men Orchis. I plan to move the tropes with in that folder to Marvel Comics: Hydra with spoiler tags along with an image to fold in and a I’ll lieave a link in the folder in the Orchis page without the spoiler
Maybe add a note to the Orchis page to say the link will be a spoiler? And possibly even spoiler tag his real identity (below the line, next to the link) so that folk who haven't read the comics know which character he is on the destination page?
Otherwise sounds good.
Is Carnage 2023 ready for launch?
Looks good to me. Only thing is that if you want to launch before the first issue's out, it'll need some intro amends and the usual unreleased work %% comments.
It already has the Unreleased Works %% blurb... I think? But I'll edit the intro a little.
Edit: Carnage (2023) is a go!

I don't know why, but Spider-Queen on Marvel Comics: Spiders is over 40K. Should a page be made for her? Also one thing I haven't fully figured out is if she's called the Queen or Spider-Queen.
It's gonna be fun on the bun! Both. Adriana Soria originally just goes by "The Queen" but after her One-Winged Angel she's called the "Spider-Queen". And if a page is made for her, my suggestion is to just call it "Marvel Comics — Adriana Soria" to avoid the name confusion.

I launched and disambiguated the Superior Spider-Man (2013) and Superior Spider-Man (2018) pages. Now all that's left is for the links to Superior Spider Man to be updated.
It's gonna be fun on the bun!I’m going to start working on pages for Marvel Comics Wakanda and Marvel Comics Latveria Both Black Panther and Fantastic Four character pages are missing a lot of characters from those areas
So I decided to do some work on ComicBook.Iron Man, and I've currently got the following sandboxes up and running.
- Sandbox.Marvel Comics Tony Stark
- Sandbox.Iron Man 1968
- Sandbox.Iron Man 1998
- Sandbox.Iron Man 2004
- Sandbox.Invincible Iron Man 2008
- Sandbox.Iron Man 2013
- Sandbox.Invincible Iron Man 2015
- Sandbox.Tony Stark Iron Man
I combed through the main page to sort all the tropes and I launched the sandboxes so I didn't lose my progress because I wanted to keep the main page the same for now for reference. The Character page is over 80K so I'm gonna launch that soon If anyone wants to do a double check quickly. Any help with the rest of the pages would be appreciated.

It's gonna be fun on the bun!I finally got around to going through the growing number of sandboxes that were accumulating and launched the following:
- Avenging Spider-Man
- Black Panther (2016)
- Cult of Carnage: Misery
- Daken
- Deadpool (2021)
- Ghost Rider: Trail of Tears
- I Am Groot (2023)
- Spider-Man's Tangled Web
- Spider-Woman (2023)
- The Other
- Ultimate Universe (2023)
When we start the new Character Pages for Ultimate I feel really strongly that they dual under the Marvel Comics Earth 6160 I just don’t like putting the year 2023 on the character pages when we have other options
Edited by Furygildeman on Jan 7th 2024 at 1:05:10 AM
I think it's annoying too but if we do that this time we'd have to do the same for the other alternate universes. Also it would make things easier to not redirect the pages.
It's gonna be fun on the bun!Let's wait and see how it develops.
I agree that the Earth-6160 isn't how Marvel identifies the imprint - but I also take the point that using the launch year for Ultimate is clunky.
It's complicated by the fact that we already have one key character who's not from Earth-6160, the Maker, and Hickman is very fond of Alternate Universe and Alternate Timeline stories.
The original Ultimate universe started bringing in its own alternates (e.g. the zombies) and this may well do the same.
Launched Spider-Boy. I'll do some crosswicking and indices.
