A recurring question: When is it long enough to split off a subpage?
While answers varynote , we can usually tell when a subpage is not long enough. Bring any candidates here and we can discuss whether or not they were properly split off and agree on whether or not to merge them back.
Here's one to start off discussion: Pun-Based Title.Webcomics. Merge back to Pun-Based Title?
Merge it back.
Already done so.
TroperWall / WikiMagic CleanupOblivious to His Own Description's Literature and Video Games subpages feel like they could be re-merged, as they're much shorter than other subpages and aren't that big on their own.

The Protomen enhanced my life.Merged back!
The Protomen enhanced my life.Limerick.TV Tropes Will Ruin Your Life. Found it while looking at Namespaces with low article counts.
Should we link on Main.Limerick, merge with Main, or cut?

Some examples for specific games are major exaggerations and could be cut down, allowing us to sequester each section to the individual YMMV pages. However, since each game uses the same battle system there is a legitimate argument to be made to keep a "multiple games" section, and that section is quite huge.
If a tree falls in the forest and nobody remembers it, who else will you have ice cream with?I just got done cutting obvious ZCEs from Signature Scene, and some of the subpages are now quite short (Web Original, for example, has just one surviving entry). Should everything be merged back into the main page, or should some of the subpages be left as-is?
In concert with the Disambig/subpage thread, I'm looking at moving WesternAnimation.Beauty And The Beast. Currently, its examples are spread out over 4 subpages. (Split in April, with no comments about previous discussion, by ~Inky 100 )
Thing is, the entirety of those sub-pages, and the writeup on the mainpage, and the folder for the stage adaptation (Which might deserve its own independent page anyway) only comes to 168k characters. At least one of the subpages is <40k.
When I move the page, should I:
- Merge all the examples back to a single page
- Keep the 4-page split
- Other? (Perhaps only two subpages)
Risk: There are ~2,700 wicks to the page, and only 972 linebreaks. (rough count for line items. Once the folder markup is removed, figure ~925 Trope Example entries) This does make one wonder how much the page would grow if correctly crosswicked. I've done a quick-n-dirty survey of the wicks, and found that the majority are actually potholes from other work pages, indexes, etc. I'm figuring that <1000 are actual Trope Examples for this page, and that some of them may actually be for one of the 3 other WesternAnimation works called BeautyAndTheBeast. I don't expect the page to swell much, if at all.
Just commented out a ZCE on SnowballLie.Video Games, leaving us with three. Should the page be merged back?
Done.

Characters.Necromancer, made by a self-deleted troper, but we do have info on its work that's not from them. I just feel that the splits are both badly named and might not be worth splitting?
That's separate from the need to disambiguate it.

TroperWall / WikiMagic CleanupThat troper made a lot of orphaned character pages.
Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure PurenessReally? Everything that has a Characters page has an associated work, and I forced some indexes, just so it's clear where they all lie, without having to use their Related Pages. Whether the work pages are any good, that's another matter.
But all the cut works also had their character pages cut too.
- Agreed.

Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure PurenessSorry, I edited my post after you added your arrow.
Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure PurenessThanks for the double-post! I wouldn't have come back otherwise? That last one is the only one un-indexed, and that's because I forgot to set Page Type to Indexing for "Characters.Necromancer".

I think the Anime, Comic Book, Video Game, and Western Animation subpages of Let No Crisis Go to Waste could be moved back, and potentially Literature and Live-Action TV too. (Fan Works is organized differently so I dunno how that would be handled.)
The Protomen enhanced my life. They're all too short. Even merged back, the page is under 60,000 characters.
How do the subpage split-offs like this happen?
The Protomen enhanced my life.someone just decides on their own to split and there's nothing preventing it, so people just do it.
PimpedOutDress.WebOriginal and PimpedOutDress.TabletopGames only have 3 and 4 examples respectively.
I'd say so.
