I first watched Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home when I was about 9 or 10, and very clearly remember it having a different ending. I remember the heroes went to deliver the whales to the Probe Ship in person, and have very clear visual image of the Bird Of Prey approaching this huge ship (as in, so big the Bo P was barely more than speck.) I even remember at the time asking my dad (who was watching with me) why it was so big and he said something like "A ship for whales would have to be pretty big." Even stranger, at some point I read online that the Probe was 75 miles long, meaning it probably WOULD look that big compared to the Bo P.

For some reason I distinctly remember one of my cousins having a girlfriend named Jaye, but when I brought it up once a year or two ago everyone looked at me like I was insane.

  • Both my mother and I misremembered the part of the Star Trek: Deep Space Nine episode "Let He Who is Without Sin" where Worf's classmate died as him almost dying.
  • I thought there was a movie that began with a woman running out of a building screaming (perhaps after a Jump Scare?) and then abruptly cut to four more women piling out of a van and singing the theme from Little Shop of Horrors, complete with the original background music.
  • Similarly, I keep misremembering an extra background dancer in Little Shop of Horrors.
  • I know on an intellectual level that the Siamese Cat Song has the lyric "If we sneaking up upon it carefully", but whenever it plays in my head, I remember it as "If we sneak upon it really carefully".
  • There's a Sesame Street song with the lyric "Breathing in your ventilation, take a breath", but I keep misremembering it as "Taking in your information, take a breath".
  • I thought there was a scene in the Arthur episode "Is There a Doctor in the House?" where Mr. Read comes in on a pogo stick and Mrs. Read asks what he's doing, to which he replies, "I got bored".

For every low there is a high.

Today during my part-time job, I got accidentally added grain mustard when the customer asked for yellow mustard. Apparently, I failed to realize that 1. We had 3 types of mustard instead of 2, and 2. I got the different types of mustard wrong. The stuff I have been calling dijon mustard is actually called grain mustard (I somehow haven't heard the term until now), and what I thought was yellow mustard is actually dijon (the yellow mustard the customers asked for is exclusively in packets, not spread on the sandwich).

When I was very young, I saw the Teletubbies magical event with the Lion and the Bear. Although it was the original version, and not the version that tries not to be unsettling, the only thing that scared me was when the Bear did her “joke”.

However, since I only saw it once, not only did I not catch on to the plot of the segment, I also misremembered those two characters. Until I found information about the segment online, I always remembered the Bear as the teddy bear that appears at the end of Elmo's Busy Baby Book. But even weirder is that, instead of a roaring lion, I remembered a black spider who said, “Hen-t-t-t-t-m.”

Edit: I just remembered my false memory of the scene that scared me. While the actual segment has the Bear emerging from behind a tree and doing her “joke”, I remembered the camera panning up the body of the aforementioned teddy bear, who suddenly makes the “joke” noise when the camera reaches its head.

I remembered Spider-Man 2 differently. I remembered Peter Parker not showing up at Mary Jane's performance and she was disappointed when she saw the empty seat and that made it harder for her to say "I am glad" since she wasn't glad that Peter didn't show up.

It took me three viewings of Ice Age to remember the 20th Century Fox logo correctly (since before watching the movie, I had only seen one of their television logos, and I could only find the old, shorter version on the movies I checked at my grandparents’ house).

After the first time, I remembered the logo starting out from a different angle, then the camera moving to the right angle, and I remembered the music as the television logo music with a longer note at the end, followed by some repetitive notes as the camera moved (I did not remember the opening drumroll).

After the second time, I think I remembered the music correctly, but I falsely remembered the camera panning straight down the logo at the beginning.

Also, after the second time I watched Ice Age, for some reason, I couldn’t remember hearing the “tigey wigey” dialogue that I remembered hearing the first time.

I keep thinking the Steven Universe episode "So Many Birthdays" is called "Too Many Birthdays", likely thanks to Too Many Cooks.

I misremembered for years a scene from Digimon Adventure. The episode when Kabuterimon digivolves into MegaKabuterimon for the first time. The episode revolves about the Monster of the Week Vademon stealing Izzy's curiosity making him into a mindless drone, until he doesn't snap back and goes to get his curiosity back.

The actual scene where he gets it back is the part I misremembered. In the actual scene he places the curiosity, in the shape of a jelly blob, on his forehead and it merges inside his head, but for years I thought he instead put it on like a hat and pushed it inside his head with all sorts of squishy gelatinous sounds.

There's a scene in the fourth season of Ninjago where Garmadon says he swore an oath to never return to Chen's island and Jay's subsequent quip treats "swore" as a reference to using foul language.

For years, I thought Jay's response was "You know, you should never swear. It's a sign of poor verbal skills." Used it as a personal Stock Phrase and everything. I found out last month that the line is "It's a sign of weak verbal skills."

"My job here is done." "But you didn't do anything."

In another thread, I mentioned the time when toddler me saw Pingu for the first time and was startled by the closing "Pingu Filmstudio Switzerland" bumper. However, I misremembered the opening and closing as still images that resembled the Ragdoll Productions logo from early PBS airings of Teletubbies, except with Pingu instead of a ragdoll. For the opening I misremembered Pingu facing the camera in this Ragdoll-style logo, and for the closing, I thought that his feet were still facing the camera, but his head was now facing the right side of the screen. (In real life, his feet are always facing the left side of the screen, and his head turns to the camera in the opening, but I didn’t remember the motion.) I also thought the theme was sung acapella by an adult male chorus instead of children (and I didn’t remember the part that played before the singing).

^ Not sure where are you from but Bella would be the Italian translation of her name Belle, so I made a similar mistake too.

I vividly remember this weird character from the older The Simpsons episodes, Graggle Simpson. I'm surprised very few people seem to remember him though. I'm sure he was there.

[up] ...did you seriously post a fake Mandela Effect meme thing here? Come on.

It happened multiple times that I remembered seeing a particular line or drawing in some book or magazine I owned, only to come back to it years later and discover that it was either completely different or just not existing.

This other one is weird: When I read for the first time Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, I believed that Buckbeak died and was then resurrected by time travel shenanigans. I realized only later that it wasn't like that, but the craziest thing is that when I discovered the truth (it was some discussion about The Cursed Child where I was like "There's no plot hole about them going back to prevent Cedric's death, that's exactly what happened with Buckbeak!") I somehow convinced myself that I was having a Mandela Effect where my mind fabricated the scene where Harry looks at Buckbeak's beheading from afar both in the book and in the film. Except I then went back to rereading the books and rewatching the movies and yes, the scene was there except Buckbeak didn't really die because future Harry and Hermione did their stuff and present Harry and Hermione couldn't see them.

The best character is always the one-shot disguise.

[up][up] His name is Gumbly and Tiktok did not create him. (Though he is still fake.)

For a real Mandela Effect, I knew this exchange was from a cartoon:

A: Liar, liar, plants for hire.
B: It’s “pants on fire”.

I thought for a while that it came from The Penguins of Madagascar (with A being Julien and B being Skipper), when it’s actually from SpongeBob.

On a serious note, I had this effect as a child. I vividly remembered several dialogues in the Power Rangers: Dino Thunder / Power Rangers Ninja Storm crossover episode going in a certain way. During a second reairing, I noticed that dialogues were different from what I remembered, so I assumed the series had been redubbed for whatever reason. Fast forwards to decades later, I remember about this and try to look up for information, still sure that there was some redubbing... and no, there wasn't. I was simply wrong all along.

It's been like 18 years since I read it, but I thought Buckbeak died as well until I read this. I remember some scene where Hagrid is devastated about it and Malfoy mocks him. Is that scene really in the book, or am I misremembering?

RE:[up]

Although there was no mocking, I believe it is in the film (can't quite recall the book).

It's implied that an executioner decapitates buckbeak with an axe, and we see Hermione wince with the typical guillotine chopping sound. Buckbeak's life is then saved by time travel shenanigans, when Harry and co. 'borrow' him to save Sirius from the past, meaning that he's 'escaped' when the executioner and Fudge arrive.

[up][up][up][up][up][up], [up][up] I'm starting to think that may be a popular enough false memory to be added as an example on the Mandela Effect page...

  • I remembered the horse-and-carriage rides in New Orleans being donkey-and-carriage rides.
  • I remembered the scene in Spider-Man 3 where Peter tells Aunt May that Spider-Man killed Sandman as her reading about it in a newspaper and them being in a coffee shop.
  • I remembered Perry the Playtpus being green.

When I was younger (about 12), I thought Pikachu had a black tip on his tail.

It turned out I wasn't insane. Many people have brought it up when discussing the Mandela Effect, and even the page image for Mandela Effect proves it.

I wonder if that might be people confusing the ears and the tail? The ears were the ones that had the black tips, not the tail.
