This thread is for political/social events concerning those from the Pacific area like the Solomon Islands, Vanuatu and Fiji.
Australia has its own thread here. Perhaps New Zealand can be here unless someone wants to give it its own thread.
Starting this up that the Solomon Islands PM Manasseh Sogavare was able to survive a no confidence vote against him in Parliament.

Looks like Sogavare couldn't get a majority at the National Parliament. A bit of good news.
That sounds like a threat.
Sogavare's party, the Ownership, Unity and Responsibility Party, only have 15 in the NP. But they're not the majority party.
The wiki article has a good list on who's who in the SI.

Jeremiah Manele is the new PM in the Solomon Islands. He'll continue Sogavare's work to have closer ties with China, but he's less confrontational.
If I was a practicing Christian, I would be pretty offended by China getting labelled as having Christian values for not allowing homosexuality instead of actually following Christianity.
Never trust anyone who uses "degenerate" as an insult.
