While he did receive a Role-Ending Misdemeanor, his works are still better-received. So maybe not.

Yep sadly that dude is still getting well received work even now...

Yeah, unfortunately. BTW, about Michael Jackson, Leaving Neverland caused his reputation to become more shaky, so I would add that to his entry.

Sorry for the late reply and double-post, but Films could use a split between Actors and Creators, as said by randomtroper89.

I noticed this entry and I'm not entirely sure it belongs here anyway:

As a teenage idol, Britney Spears used to be known for her sexy schoolgirl look and sexier music that led her to international superstardom. As an adult, her musical success has been eclipsed by the breakdown of her mental health and personal life (2004-08). Most notable were her surprise late-night Vegas marriage to a childhood friend, the subsequent annulment 56 hours later, her equally sudden marriage to one of her stage dancers, her even more sudden decision to divorce said second husband, several failed trips through rehab, shaving her head and attacking nearby paparazzi with her umbrella, losing custody of her children over her behavior and her rumored drug abuse, an MTV Video Music Awards performance in which she appeared terrified, supposedly out of shape, and unable to perform, and eventually being legally declared a conservatee of the state and placed under the care of her father and her attorney. Yet despite all this, her albums can still sell well. She has since made a successful Career Resurrection. Top selling tours, number one singles, outrageous first day plays, critical acclaim. Just to name a few.

Even within the entry, it notes that she did regain her popularity and from what I can note, people are sympathetic to her attempts to remove the conservatorship that her father placed on her so I don't think she counts as a Fallen Creator anymore.

[up] She does not. Just search "Free Britney" and you'll see what I'm talking about. They were literally just talking about it on the Today show minutes ago. The entry can be chucked.

Yeah, I was thinking that. The page is locked though so I can’t remove it.

[up] Well I assume with more consensus we can take it to the Locked Pages thread.

Looking through those under the Film Section:

  • Is Robin Williams really a Fallen Creator? I still remember people seeing him as a beloved performer, and when Jumanji 2 and Aladdin 2019 were announced, there was backlash from fans of the actor.

  • Michael Eisner's entry is a complaining Wall of Text, but was he ever well loved in the first place?

  • Fred Dekker's example sounds more like Creator Killer than Fallen Creator

  • The last line of Robert Zemeckis' entry comes off as subtle bashing.

  • Is it still Fallen Creator if the only thing that happened was a Creator Killer or Dork Age?

[up]

  • Robin Williams is the opposite of a "Fallen Creator". He was indeed a beloved actor, and his death sent shockwaves because of how sad it was.
  • Eisner might count. He was praised at first for being part of the three-man team (along with Jeffrey Katzenberg and Frank Wells) who saved Disney, and he was generally thought of positively for a while. He is now more well-known for nearly killing Disney after Wells died in a helicopter crash and Katzenberg jumped ship after an ugly dispute to DreamWorks, which was following by many of the terrible business decisions now associated, correctly or incorrectly, with Eisner (the DTV sequels, the disastrous ABC buyout, the theme park division failures such as the California Adventure debacle, nearly killing the Pixar merger, etc.) I think an argument could be made for Eisner, although I hesitate to say if he was beloved per se, more respected for helping save Disney after all of the trouble the company went through following Walt's death.
  • Yeah Dekker's entry is a Creator Killer.
  • The bit at the end of Zemeckis' entry is natter and should be removed anyway.
  • Technically yes, but honestly I think this trope needs TRS someday because as it stands, the trope is redundant with Creator Killer, Star-Derailing Role, Overshadowed by Controversy, and Role-Ending Misdemeanor all at once.

So Eisner might be Condemned by History. Nontheless, the entry comes across as incredibly bashy.

[up] That's another trope that Fallen Creator is redundant with. This trope needs TRS badly.

And yes, the entry is a non-stop bash-a-thon. This is literally how it begins:

Former Disney CEO Michael Eisner is often remembered now as a talentless, soul-sucking hack that "destroyed" the company built by Walt and Roy O. Disney.

I think we need to create a Sandbox to look at each of the entries and see where they fit better.

It's been a while and I kind of forgot, but is everyone okay with the new write-up I made for Frank Miller? If there are no issues, I can bring it over to the Locked Pages Thread so we can replace the entry that's on the page right now.

Surprised R. Kelly isnt on the list. Should he belong there?

And I think the page being locked severely hampers the curation of the page. I'm sure people are more disciplined on what goes there now, and a cleanup page like this will make sure of any problems.

[up]I don't know about that. I mean, you can't be too sure that no one would abuse the page again if it's unlocked (especially those who never bothered to check here), same with other contentious pages like Complete Monster. I know it's a hassle, but it's a Necessary Weasel. So personally, I say keep the lock and we can discuss edits over here. But that's just me though.

Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard have very strict criteria to meet and are more character based. Fallen Creator is more like Condemned by History, which isn't locked and hasn't met the same level of abuse that Fallen Creator had before. That's why I ask if it's okay for it to be unlocked these days.

And unlock could help with this thread fixing stuff.

I might go to the Locked Pages thread and ask for Fallen Creator to be unlocked. Anyone here think otherwise?

  • John Landis, the director of Animal House, The Blues Brothers, An American Werewolf in London, Trading Places and the video for Michael Jackson's "Thriller", suffered one of the grislier disgraces on this list. While he was filming a segment for the Twilight Zone: The Movie anthology movie, a special effect went wrong, and a crashing helicopter killed actor Vic Morrow and two illegally employed child actors. Landis shook off criminal charges in a highly publicized court case, but the accident was a serious blow to Landis's career.

In spite of this, he still made fairly successful movies for most of the '80s, and had a major hit with Coming to America. What really derailed his career totally was the over-budget, out of control production of Beverly Hills Cop III, and the subsequent flop of Blues Brothers 2000 confirmed the kill. He then retreated to documentaries, a field in which he hasn't declined yet (he won an Emmy in 2008 for Mr. Warmth: The Don Rickles Project), and is only now getting back into making feature films.

What really makes the Twilight Zone part bad, though, is that it was entirely his fault. He ignored the advice of stunt men and actors alike, demanding the helicopter get closer in each shot so it'd look better. Morrow, in contrast, earned a Dying Momentof Awesome by pushing some of the child actors out of harm's way at the cost of his own life.

This needs some cleanup

EDIT: Not sure it's an exmaple at all

Does that last part really need to be there? It already told us about how he ended up getting those actors killed, so it's just pointless bashing of Landis and gushing about Vic Morrow.

Thomas fans needed! Come join me in the the show's cleanup thread!
