Acting Supernatural (Reboot)

"Hey, wow, we've got 'N'Yawkers' comin' here? 'Ey, piessa pizza, fuhgeddaboudit, that's awesome."

A snort-laugh slipped out. "'Big Bad Wolf'? What, are you in a biker gang? Fairy tale themed? Get real."

Well, Kayden was clearly off to a good start breaking the ice. After two tone-deaf icebreakers in a row, he turned his attention to the quiet one in shades and a hoodie. "So what about you, huh? Saw you hopping out of a limo just now, so what's your story? Are you like a, uh, what's the word...celebutante? Rich and famous? You covered up like that to hide from the paparazzi?"

Mindy looked at Alex with a very baffled expression. Here he was coming in glaring at everyone, with her firing back a look of her own, but then he was looking all insecure with how he expressed that there were none of these schools in New York. She also sensed that he was off too somehow.

"What are you, playin' games here? What are you supposed to be? I hope I didn't just enroll into a school full of dweebs. I'm not in the mood for this now."

She finished the sentence before looking down solemnly. "These are gonna be the worst years of my life, ain't they? Guess I finally brought this on myself", she says to herself, in a low manner, hoping no one can hear her. Before snapping back to her sarcastic self as she heard himself referring to "The Big Bad Wolf".

Then she happens to hear Alex calling himself the Big Bad Wolf. "Big Bad Wolf? What, you gonna huff and puff and blow someone's house down? Well, if I ever need some balloons blown up, I'll be sure to call ya."

But then, there was Kayden, here mocking her and Blake for being from New York. She clenches her fist and narrows her eyes and gets right in Kayden's face.

"Aw yea, New Yawk New Yawk, pizza pizza, fuhgeddaboudit. Maybe I oughta smash you into the ground and make a pizza outta you. Cook ya in the oven and serve it fresh to me and Queens here," she says the last part, pointing and referring to Blake. "Don't be messin' with me around here. I've had years of practice to learn to not take crap!"

She backs off and goes back to Blake. "The nerve of that guy, makin' fun of us. Us New Yorkers gotta stick together. It's in our nature not to take crap."

Front of School

"I'd rather not eat human pizza but as a metaphor I am all for this. We might be 'city folk' but we're standing up for ourselves and each other!"

Blake tries to look as stoically steadfast as he can. That might be a little lacking.

"You don't mess with a couple-a Yorkers who've been with a rough friend circle."

Gill laughed as he was pulled into a bear hug, returning it with a giant smile. It was pleasantly familiar how she squelched into his arms, like a giant octopus. He knew he was going to enjoy being a human now.

Gill let go of Mimi and turned to look as Alex and Loki began to speak. The others proceeded to make fun of him for calling himself the Big Bad Wolf. Why? Why was being a wolf so bad? What even was a wolf?

He would find out, he was sure, but the others seemed to understand well enough.

And then they started talking about New Yorkers. Whatever that was. Whatever it was, it was a hot-button issue, since the other two had gotten incredibly defensive about it.

"Guys, guys, it's fine, being a New Yorker is great, same with being a wolf!" he exclaimed. "You should be happy with who you are, because you're amazing, all of you! So just be open with yourself and who you are, and, and..." he started to say, then realized the implications of what he was saying. His smile faded briefly.

No, there was no reason to be happy about being a merman. Not when he was alone. Not when being a human was so much better. He had lost his groove for a moment before he managed to compose himself.

"A-anyway, that's not important! What matters is that we're all students of this school, and we're gonna be great friends! So let's not fight, and let's just learn all we can at this amazing place with all of these amazing people!"

Kayden nearly bent over backwards backing away with his hands up from Mindy. "Wh- Hey! Take it easy already, I wasn't making fun! I was just...I dunno, trying to break the ice here. Y'know, trying to make a connection, open shared interests, pizza, times square, I'm walkin' here OOOOHH right, yeah, I see how that- sorry."

7:49am or so, Little Haven, outside Oddity High - Alex Palencia the uncertain werewolf

Alex could hardly believe that the other kids had latched onto his Big Bad Wolf joke to make fun of, when there was this joker going around claiming his name was Loki. His initial thought was to defend himself or play it off; as of course, there was a subconscious desire to actually fit in and get along with others...

But there was a more pressing matter in Alex's life, since being around him could be dangerous; (or so he thought) thus, having himself be isolated from the other students wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing. Alex kind of spaced out as he tried to think about what to do, and wasn't really paying attention to the fight potentially about to go off with Mindy and Blake against Kayden.

Alex's attention was brought back when that redheaded boy Gill was speaking up like a Disney protagonist, talking about how they were all great and should be open with who they are and all be friends and- Alex couldn't help but roll his eyes. "Yeah easy for you to say" Alex mumbled, adjusting his backpack and walking away from Mindy, Blake, and Kayden since being caught in a fight was the last thing he wanted right now.

Mimi

Mimi couldn't help but let out an involuntary giggling noise at Gill's words, one which devolved into squeaky snorting once he stumbled over his words. The girl composed herself soon enough, but unbeknownst to her she had been laughing in a repeating pattern—as if she was completely unable to continue the sound naturally.

“Mimi likes you, Gill. You're innocent,” she decided, nodding firmly to herself as she pointedly stood next to him from then on. “Cute... you're an optimist! Mimi learnt that word years ago, and she likes it~!” :D

Mindy is still not all that amused at Kayden's New York jokes, even as he realizes the error of his ways as she still gives him a cutting glare as if she wanted to pummel his face right now. Her eyes narrow further and her teeth really stick out further and as she clenches her fists tighter, they suddenly catch on fire, slowly getting hotter and hotter. After a moment, she realizes what's going on and looks down at her hands.

"Ah, damn it. No... no, no no. Come on, come on, cool down." She opens and closes her hands repeatedly until the fires die down and lets out a bit of a relieved, if slightly embarrassed sigh.

Loki noticed Mindy's burning hands. He briefly pondered what kind of being she might be. Fire jotun, perhaps? Then again, nothing about these other kids really screams Norse myth, so maybe there are other types of supernatural people out there? Stands to reason.

He also picked up on Gill's hesitation after he said everyone should accept who they are. Probably he is supernatural in some way, and is ashamed of it. Well, that or he's gay or something else mundane like that. Loki gave it a 50-50 chance.

He kicked the ground impatiently.

When's school supposed to start, anyway?

Front of School

Blake jumps back a bit as his fellow New Yorker's hands suddenly outright catch fire and the only reaction from the girl herself is to calm down and that causes the fire to go out. Blake makes the deduction pretty quickly.

"Damn, thought we were going to be the cool normal kids... The fire magic's cool though. Real superpower-tier stuff there."

He snaps his fingers.

"Honest, I wish I had the kind of confidence to just play off fire hand superpowers as no big deal."

Hailey Woods — 7:49 A.M or so, Oddity High

Ah, the first day of school.

Hailey didn't really think about it much — Sure, that means she gets to meet new people (and maybe old, if she's lucky enough), but it's not like she hasn't done this 3 times before in the past.

Humming along a little song, she walks to the front of the school. Out of curiosity, she observes what the front yard — If you can even call it one — looks like while waiting for school to start.

Gill chuckled at Mimi as she made a point to stand next to him devotedly.

"You're real sweet, Mimi," he told her, then turned towards Mindy just to see her making her hands glow with... something. Was that something all humans could do?

"Whoa, what's that stuff that's making your hands glow?" he asked. "How did you do that? It's so pretty! How do I do that?" he asked, looking down. He snapped his fingers, waved his hands, trying to get his hands to catch on fire but to no avail.

Then Blake pointed out it looked like 'fire,' whatever that was.

"Fire?" he asked. "What's that? Whatever it is, it's real pretty... can everyone do that with their hands?" he asked the boy.

Mimi

As Mindy's hands seemed to catch alight, Mimi froze up before scurrying to hide behind Gill; using him as a shield as she compacted herself tightly against his back. Out of fear of the flame, she appeared to shake violently—letting out a wordless whimper that sounded strangely more primal than commonly fearful.

“...She feels heat... f-fire's bad for Mimi. Please keep it away...” she whispered in a desperate manner, hiding her face to the best of her ability. “Mimi's a good girl. She's... she's a good girl... sh-she's...”

She repeated this beneath her breath like it was a mantra to her, even squeezing her eyes tightly shut to further emphasize her trepidation to the others around her.

Mindy still has that embarrassed look on her face, her eyes bugging out, her already light skin growing paler. She seemed afraid for that brief moment, before she tries to regain her composure.

"Look, look, it's not somethin' I asked for, all right? It's just.... fuhgeddaboudit- ah, damn it, Kayden! Just forget it you saw that," she says trying desperately to keep it under wraps, before letting out a defeated "I got stuck with this for a little while now and I'm tryin' to learn how to control this, but then- well, I don't wanna go into it right now."

She then looks at Gill very puzzled.

"Am I dreamin'? Did he really ask what fire is? Fire, you know? Like this red hot air, surely you've seen that unless you've been livin' under a rock your entire life..."

Well, at least they'd answered the question. Robin was still a little distracted by the conversation and feeling a little more uneasy. Part of them wanted to get to class and yet...well, as long as the floors weren't polished to a mirror-like sheen, they'd get there in time.

...Although with Mindy's hands going up in flames, they gave a small twirl of their umbrella before letting it rest on their shoulders with a slightly nervous smile.

"Are you going to be alright? Don't need a bucket of water or anything?" They asked for nodding at Loki.

"You going I'm fairly certain I've got a time-table...schedule somewhere and could check that for you. Don't think it'll be too long now."

Okay, so Gill was definitely not a normal human, judging from his complete lack of knowledge of fire. Doesn't eliminate the possibility that that brief bout of shame was for something mundane, though. He leaned over to Gill and said in a whisper, Most people can't make fire out of their hands, by the way. Also, if you see more of it, don't touch it - it's painful.

Outside Oddity High

Robin wouldn't need to worry about finding their schedule.

As the students (all of which were now at the school) conversed, another car pulled into the parking lot. Out of it came a woman. She looked to be in her early 40s. Her hair was in a bun, and she had glasses.

"Hello, students. I am Ms. Perlman, and I will be your science teacher this year. Now, it looks like..." There was a brief pause as she counted out the students. "...eleven. One student missing."

"Uh, M-Ms. Perlman...I'm here..." It was odd that Ms. Perlman had missed Val—they weren't behind another student or anything like that.

"Ah! Sorry, I'm not sure how I missed you. Right, that's all twelve. Do all of you know your schedules? Class is starting in about..." Another brief pause as she checked her watch. "...six minutes."

Nicholas

Nicholas had watched the events that unfolded with a look of...detachment. So many unusual things were happening, and he was reasonably sure that he should be freaking out right now.

But then, it seemed that all of his emotions had stopped working since being reanimated.

"I know mine," he said to the woman who'd just arrived. "I'm Nicholas."

Gill winced when Mimi clung to his back. He turned, trying to pull her off.

"It's... it's fine! You're gonna be okay, I won't let anything happen to you," he told her. "Please let go of my back, though." He then turned his attention back to Mindy.

"No, why would I live under a rock? That sounds really uncomfortable," he pointed out. Loki leaned in and explained, which didn't entirely explain but was good enough for him.

"So it's special then, got it! Oh man, I'm learning so much..." It was right about then that his first teacher arrived, and his eyes widened with a grin. He pulled himself over towards the teacher.

"Ms. Perlman, my name is Gill, it's so amazing to be here! I... don't think I got my schedule. They said they would 'mail' it to where I lived, whatever that means," he said. "Either way... do you happen to have a spare copy of the schedule?" he asked.

Mimi

“Teacher...” Mimi murmured in realisation as she finally pulled away from Gill, staring in Ms. Perlman's general direction with a look of blank... something. Intrigue? Surprise? It was uncertain, but she eventually smiled at the woman in a cheerful fashion.

“Mama and Papa gave Mimi a cute little folder for her schedule~! She has it here,” she happily answered, reaching into her schoolbag and showing off a bright pink folder with a floral design on the cover. “It's pink. She's very excited to go to school and learn!” (^-^)

Mindy snarls at Robin "No! A bucket of water isn't gonna help me. Not if I can make all that come out of my hands. Use your head here!"

Mindy turns away, feeling a mix of anger, embarrassment and fear. She's now worrying in fear she's going to end up killing someone with her powers that she doesn't have a firm grasp on. But then she turns her attention to the newly arrived Mrs. Perlman.

"Uh, hey, I'm Mindy and I just moved here and I saw my schedule earlier and I guess I'm gonna start off with Mr. Morgan."

Wait, we're actually going to different classes? There's twelve of us! Loki reached into his pocket and pulled out a piece of paper, folded into roughly the shape of a person's pocket, which he unfolded. Yup, here it is! My schedule, that is.

"Yeah yeah. Mom made sure I had everything I needed for school today..."

He gave the schedule a quick look and his face immediately twitched.

"Yo who's got Perlman up first?"
