Isn't that meme costantly kept alive by Blizzard that references it over and over all the time? Also, even if people don't remember the source, Leroy Jenkins is the third millennium's Geronimo: the guy whose name is yelled by rushing people because it sounds cool.
The best character is always the one-shot disguise.Any more wicks in the wick check?
"Listen up, Marina, because this is SUPER important. Whatever you do, don't eat th“ “DON'T EAT WHAT?! Your text box ran out of space!”I added a few ones a hour ago, we are currently at 33.
The best character is always the one-shot disguise.I reckon we can mention in the refutal of the MLPEG wick that the series stars high school girls.
"Listen up, Marina, because this is SUPER important. Whatever you do, don't eat th“ “DON'T EAT WHAT?! Your text box ran out of space!”BTW, two of the three bullet points of the [Work Name] wick were written by me as a deliberate parody of how the trope is often misused in my opinion.
The best character is always the one-shot disguise.Which?
"Listen up, Marina, because this is SUPER important. Whatever you do, don't eat th“ “DON'T EAT WHAT?! Your text box ran out of space!”First two, the ones about social networks and movie references.
The best character is always the one-shot disguise.Laconic for reference: Obvious, desperate, and frequently misguided attempts at keeping trendy, hip and young using Long Running media, especially if it's outdated.
"Listen up, Marina, because this is SUPER important. Whatever you do, don't eat th“ “DON'T EAT WHAT?! Your text box ran out of space!”Fun fact: the third one was mine.
I do some cleanup and then I enjoy shows you probably think are cringe.I freaking love [Work Name] and that example cracked me up. 10/10.
I'm the one who put it on the wick check
Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure PurenessThis is on All Grown Up!:
Were Still Relevant Dammit: This show is meant to do this for the Rugrats franchise.
ZCE, doesn't fit the trope. Cut.
TRS Queue | Works That Require Cleanup of Complaining | Troper WallOn Harry Potter and the Cursed Child:
- Were Still Relevant Dammit: Is mostly timeless but future Godric's Hollow has been overrun by hipsters.
Hipsters are not a fad of the new '10s as far as I know.
The best character is always the one-shot disguise. And Harry was created about last century.
"Listen up, Marina, because this is SUPER important. Whatever you do, don't eat th“ “DON'T EAT WHAT?! Your text box ran out of space!”bump.
"Listen up, Marina, because this is SUPER important. Whatever you do, don't eat th“ “DON'T EAT WHAT?! Your text box ran out of space!”Added a few wicks to the wick check, and then I ran on those examples on Coronation Street.
- Were Still Relevant Dammit: The show likes to put "modern" terms in the episode but it doesn't look or sound normal. Already start with the complainy terms...
- Carla and Toyah used a hashtag in a conversation. For example, Carla said "Hashtag relationship goals" after walking past a bemused Peter and Toyah. "Technology bad"
- The show uses substitutes when talking about modern subjects. Maria met Michele's ex, Will Chatterton, in a Tinder-esque app. Then, Ryan and Alex were looking for Ryan's cryptocurrency "whipcoin". "Technology bad"
- One of the worst examples was an app developer who briefly appeared in 2019 who, for some bizarre reason, spoke only in internet memes, especially ones that hadn't been popular for a number of years. Keep this
- The comic relief plot with Maria Connor had her use the phrase "Netflix and chill" on a dating app and receiving applicants who were too embarrassing and outright awkward to be funny or realistic. Applicants ranging from a man whose mother crashed the date, a man who kept talking about multiple women who died after dating him, and a man telling her on their first date that he's a furry who enjoys acting like a dog. This literally uses the "Netflix and chill" line as an excuse to complain about a subplot they didn't like on YMMV
- A 2021 episode has Aadi respond to the news that his sister is dating a girl with nonchalance, followed by a well-intentioned but awkward exchange where he uses non-binary while talking about impressing women. Telling to non-binary people that they're a dead fad is totally not offensive
Aadi: Get cake. Lots of cake. Gay, straight, non-binary...the ladies love cake.

The best character is always the one-shot disguise. They don’t meet the trope so cut cut cut.
"Listen up, Marina, because this is SUPER important. Whatever you do, don't eat th“ “DON'T EAT WHAT?! Your text box ran out of space!”I think some of those legit sound unnatural though, not just complaining.
Most people don't unironically use hashtags in conversation (at least not since maybe the early 2010s, but even then it was cringey) so that really is not just "technology bad" so much as a shoehorned reference to technology.
The "Netflix and chill" meme is very much dated but IDK how much attention they gave to the reference or when the episode aired.
"Gay, straight, nonbinary" sounds like a confusion of "nonbinary" with "bisexual because nonbinary isn't a sexuality. Probably not WSRD but it's still mildly cringe to me as a queer person. ("He a little confused but he got the spirit.")

I do some cleanup and then I enjoy shows you probably think are cringe. The problem with the "Netflix and chill" example is that at first goes fine, but then goes on to describe the remainder of the scene, which was unnecessary and basically reads like the troper putting their DMOS example in the YMMV page using the fact that the scene contains a dated reference to justify its presence.
The best character is always the one-shot disguise. We need more wicks in the wick check, folks!
"Listen up, Marina, because this is SUPER important. Whatever you do, don't eat th“ “DON'T EAT WHAT?! Your text box ran out of space!”Have you added any? I might only when I have time.
I do some cleanup and then I enjoy shows you probably think are cringe. From El Chavo del ocho.
- Were Still Relevant Dammit:
- The famous football players referenced by the kids change as the show progresses. For most of the 1972-1977 run, El Chavo always wanted to play as Enrique Borja, while he was changed to Leonardo Cuéllar and Hugo Sánchez in the 1978 season. Similarly, in the animated adaptation, El Chavo and Quico wanted to play as Kikín Fonseca and Cuauhtémoc Blanco, among others.
- If an episode that includes a then-recent cultural reference got remade, said references were changed to more recent ones. For example, in the 1975 version of the second episode of the Gloria and Patty arc, Don Ramón invites Gloria to watch Earthquake, while in the 1978 version, he invites her to watch Close Encounters of the Third Kind.
Those examples strike me out because it seems like it should be a completely different trope that doesn't exist yet, about updating dated references with more current ones when reprinting a book or remaking a show (like the Broadway Aladdin musical that updates the Genie's references each year)

The best character is always the one-shot disguise. The Aladdin musical one fits a trope I have in the TLP, Flexible Live Theater.
I do some cleanup and then I enjoy shows you probably think are cringe.Yes, I remember seeing multiple example of this thing under different unrelated tropes. Bowdlerise haves some examples of books and comics updating outdated references in reprints of older stuff for example.
Meanwhile we are at 47 wicks.
The best character is always the one-shot disguise.
The first two can go, but I think the third can stay; the Leeroy Jenkins meme was already long dead by the time the show first came out. In fact, the original Leeroy Jenkins Video’s upload date is almost three times closer to the end of the original series than to the beginning of the reboot.
