- Fanon Discontinuity:
- For many fans, the seasons between the movie and its sequel (except for 4 and 5 for more than a few, after they finished airing) don't exist. As for individual episodes, "A Pal for Gary" and "One Coarse Meal" get this the most.
For the individual episodes, I dispute that they're Fanon Discontinuity, since fans seem to really nurture the Jerkass moments that SpongeBob and Mr. Krabs have in these respective episodes for whatever reason even though they're considered the worst episodes in the show.

Thomas fans needed! Come join me in the the show's cleanup thread! So you say the episodes being hated paradoxically disqualifies them as discontinuity?
No it's not what I said. I said that people still act like these episodes happened when they can't let go of characters being poorly written like that and hold it personally against them like they're real people.
Thomas fans needed! Come join me in the the show's cleanup thread! To me it feels less that they pretend those eps didn't happen and more they wish they didn't happen.
When you consider what they've done, it kind of makes sense for the backlash, but at the same time this isn't really a story with heavy continuity, it's just a light-hearted Negative Continuity cartoon, it really shouldn't be taken as seriously as it is.

Thomas fans needed! Come join me in the the show's cleanup thread!Yeah, at this point in the show, the "discontinuity" doesn't feel like it applies. And I agree the Never Live It Down aspect feels like the complete opposite of Fanon Discontinuity.
I do some cleanup and then I enjoy shows you probably think are cringe. Also, doesn't Fanon Discontinuity require there to be continuity in the first place? For years it's been misused as "fans pretend the worst installment doesn't exist" with no elaboration.
That might be a topic for TRS.
Here's a few from One Coarse Meal's recap page:
- Bittersweet Ending: Plankton is scared off at the end, but also got the chance to enjoy some revenge beforehand. But we weren't supposed to side with Plankton; he was a Designated Villain.
- Dude, Not Funny!: SpongeBob doesn't take Mr. Krabs' torment of Plankton really well. Was Mr. Krabs trying to be funny? I always thought he was just protecting the formula.
- Karma Houdini: Zigzagged. Mr. Krabs gets his proper comeuppance at tormenting Plankton when SpongeBob tells Plankton of his secret fear of mimes. However, it's only momentarily before being scared off, with Mr. Krabs not seeming to regret his actions. Does someone have to feel regret to not be a Karma Houdini?
- Lack of Empathy: Mr. Krabs torments Plankton using his fear of whales for over two weeks, to the extent that he's nearly Driven to Suicide. When SpongeBob calls him on it and tells him he's going too far, Krabs just laughs it off. That trope is for people who *never* feel empathy, not just a moment. It better fits No Sympathy, which is already listed.
- Pet the Dog: Inverted. SpongeBob actually shows sympathy for Plankton when he is tormented to the point of suicide, and even defends him against Mr. Krabs. How is that an inversion? Is it because Plankton is normally a baddie?
- Very Special Episode: About fears and being scared to the point of suicide. I highly doubt the episode was meant to be a PSA.
Well, "be funny" implies he wanted Plankton to laugh. He was just making cruel jokes at his expense for the whole episode to make himself laugh. He wasn't protecting the formula since he went beyond the boundaries of the Krusty Krab.
Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure PurenessRegarding Karma Houdini, while Plankton does briefly get to harass Krabs with his fear of mimes, Krabs still essentially wins that episode anyway because SpongeBob scares Plankton off and releases Krabs, after which Krabs seems more mildy inconvenienced by the mime, more than actively afraid.
Ever wanted to see the most inexplicably horrifying intro to a game ever?Plankton did briefly get Krabs back though, even if Spongebob then scared him off in turn, so it's not Karma Houdini. That would be if Plankton never successfully got Krabs back.
I do some cleanup and then I enjoy shows you probably think are cringe. Not sure if the videogames count for this cleanup thread, but I've zapped two obvious meta moments from Funny.Sponge Bob Square Pants Battle For Bikini Bottom, and I would advise keeping an eye on the page in the short term in case someone tries to add them back.
"As long as I have my comrades with me, I can do anything!" (She/Her) (Current Focus: Cleaning Hell Is That Noise misuse)I think the entire franchise counts for this thread

The definition of what's considered "meta" is kind of vague but I don't see what's wrong with that particular one.
The other one was this:
- A meta example for Rehydrated: In the Rock Bottom Museum, several glass cases contain character models, which are mostly frozen to give off the appearance of statues. One of the glass cases contains several elderly fish- which aren't frozen, and their idle animations are intact, making it look like someone just trapped them in there.
This seems perfectly fine as well; it occurs entirely within the game itself. I wouldn’t even consider it “meta” on said rationale.
back lolIt's possibly unintentional but if it's in the game, I'd say it's fair game.

Maybe you could cut the last section, and add a note pointing out that while he has had chaste crushes here and there, that doesn't mean he's aromantic.
