I really enjoyed Orient Express so I'm looking forward to more Poirot once it comes to home video/on-demand streaming.
I liked the first one, though the aro ace erasure (with giving Poirot a dead love interest for some unfathomable reason) throw me off.
If nothing else, legitimate "whodunnit" movies are a rarity in Hollywood these days and Branagh knows his stuff when it comes to filmography, with the previous movie and Knives Out being essentially the only high profile examples of the last decade, so I'm on board with this.
"All you Fascists bound to lose."Yeah it was weird to me that they added to the script since you could remove it and the film would lose pretty much nothing.
Sorry double post XD

Well....just be happy you guys never watched the 2001 CBS Murder on the Orient express movie XD. They threw in Vera Rosakoff for no real reason except to make out with Sexy!Poirot (it was a 40 something Alfred Molina but he was clearly intended to be a Hotter and Sexier version of the character).
That said, I am kind of curious about what Branagh is going to do with Bouc since he's a new addition to this story. Presumably he's the Hastings, but since Nile didn't include Hastings it seems like a weird addition nonetheless.

Probably more or less to be a Watson for him to voice ideas off of for audience benefit rather than keep the detecting internal.
Poirot in the original books is not really depicted as aromantic.
Asexual, maybe.
Maybe he's asexual now because of his wife's death, if that helps.
Jason has come back to kill for Mommy.Book!Poirot will on occasion express appreciation for the female form, and loves seeing romance bloom in others. I don't think he's aromantic or asexual; I think he's a classic case of being too focused on his career and/or too set in his ways to make room for a romantic relationship.
Heck, in the book version of Death on the Nile, Poirot says, "Love is not everything, Mademoiselle. It is only when we are young that we think it is."
Either way, the dead fiance was really minor thing and it didn't really disrupt much.
I don't know why, but I can never get over Branagh's french accent. It's so off, especially if you are familiar with other Poirot's. He's kind of like Ewan Mc Gregor, he can't quite pull it off
Bide your time, and Hold out Hope — GANKUTSUOU Just because it's irrational, doesn't mean it's not real. It’s not a French accent though.
It’s Belgian.
Not Three Laws compliant. It sounds more like a standard French accent from someone who can't speak English with an anglophone accent, without being exaggeratedly caricatural. French-speaking Belgian accents are way different.

Oh, okay. I was half-making a joke though, considering that Poirot generally reacts really badly to being called French.
Not Three Laws compliant.Postponed from 12/18 to some time in 2021.

I really enjoyed the movie when I first saw it in February 2022—though the 1978 one is great and I would personally say that one's definitely better. Cast was good and I give them credit for trying to make it still feel fresh. While it was a little weird to see Bouc killed instead of Salome, it makes sense with the changes in both character and plot though.
Having seen A Haunting in Venice back in—I think—October, it was possibly the best one—and that could be as I said before because it had no prior film adaptation of Hallowe'en Party to compare it to unlike the other two book adaptations before it. Tempted to fan cast a version that could've came out in the 80s starring Peter Ustinov—which would mean picking whoever else I want to be in it regardless of current living status now too.

The trailer for Kenneth Branagh's follow up to Murder on the Orient Express just dropped:
This actually looks really damn good. Cinematography looks promising as does the cast.
Looks like I'll be risking the 'rona to see this and Candyman in theatres XD
