Waiting for Sidney, Courteney and Hayden to all reject returning in favor of Melissa being brought back. They're the big ones. They're the ones who are really gonna hurt the movie by not being in it.

Ok looking back to it. Yeah, I have to say Melissa Barrera's firing is unjustified and you guys are right, Melissa is not racist towards Jewish people. Sorry that I say I don't want you guys to be one sided with the war. I wasn't sure what to believe before. futuremoviewriter, I owe you an apology for not showing support because I don't know the whole story.

So yeah I won't watch Scream 7 anyway not just because It's nothing without Sydney, Sam and Tara but also because of the company's bad decisions. Scream VI is already concerning because they won't pay Neve.

The pay dispute thing was at least a possible budgetary issue. This was them making a choice based on public views that were gonna make certain people angry.

I love this film franchise and the idea that I have to reject it now saddens me greatly. I'm really hoping it doesn't come to that.

As pointed out before, wouldn't be surprised if they revive the TV show as a means of trying to once again save face too.

[up]Thanks. Appreciate it.

[up] No problem. [tup]

About the TV show, I don't think they'll revive the TV show adaptation even if they want to.

There are people who wanted to see it get a proper ending, so you never know.

They're rebooting again, according to the trades.

What do they mean by that? How would you even get that info?

I would agree that it's probably too early for that info. We need to hear about others who are probably gonna leave before that too.

They should get ready for a full brigade of fans—not necessarily me—who are gonna have a less than enthused reaction.

At least if I want to rewatch the ones that came out already, got them all on video and DVD as of July when Scream VI came out on home video. Now they're free! Haha.

Hoping Chris Landon walks soon too. Apparently they're also trying to deflect the blame onto Jenna as well.

THR has more details on the franchise tumult. Like how, of course, Spyglass was full of shit; Barrera's firing was discussed well-before the post the company cited as anti-Semitic, and Ortega was let go because she asked for more money, not because of "scheduling issues"(is that ever actually the case with these things)?

Spyglass is gonna do anything to avoid being the ones blamed for this—until they can't. It's a losing battle. When the rest of the cast walks away, that's gonna definitely hurt BIG TIME.

Ah so it's a money thing. And their using that as an excuse in an well oh shucks guess we had to let her go.

They seem to have it in their heads that they can make a successful movie without any of their previous leads since 6 was a success without Neve. But the only reason it even worked out was because 5 had basically already pivoted away from her and set up new leads, anyways, so they could still go on without her while still making it seem like a natural direction for the story to go in. And Ortega was probably a big reason the movies were able to draw in a younger generation. They've massively shot themselves in the foot and still think they'll be able to recover from this easily.

Uh it could have worked with most slasher franchises. Where the emphasis is on the bad guys mowing through a cast of two dimensional stick figures. But scream works because the cast rolls over to the next one.

It's telling the guy under the ghostface mask here is a loser at he end of the day.

The backlash in just the first week is already so big as it is. With Neve, aside from the pay situation just being what it was, they figured her role would otherwise be small enough that they could go on without here.

Here? They lost BOTH of their biggest leads in the last two movies. That is a MASSIVE setback.

Yeah Ghostface is also very important, but not Ghostface alone though. The key to Ghostface was also that you had Sidney and then later Sam—and Tara—always paired against him/her.

Melissa Barrera's firing still seems to have been about her talking about the conflict in Gaza, just not for that particular Tweet. Unless I misread that. Jenna leaving due to money makes more sense, since "scheduling conflicts" seems to be code for "we don't want to say the real reason."

They might have been able to salvage something if only one of them left, heavy emphasis on might, but now its not looking too good.

Yeah. As I said, the longer this goes on without them fixing it, the more damage it causes. As I also said, it wasn't just Scream 4 underperforming that put another movie on the back-burner for so long: it was also that the Weinstein Company situation basically left everything they either were involved in or were about to do with a stigma that still is probably there to this day too.

[up]They truly don't have anyone to blame but themselves.

They're definitely hoping that getting Neve onboard is gonna make it go away. Even if they do, it's probably not gonna help.

It truly is something watching a franchise fall apart.

Spyglass genuinely succeeded at bringing about a 20+ year old franchise to a new audience, and fumbled the bag this hard.

If Neve doesn't come back for this movie I think they're just gonna straight up reboot again

Hopefully they can salvage it before it's too late. The Scream legacy is something I can't stand to watch die when it’s been as impressive as it is for so long. Even when Scream 4 was for years the last one, it was still something that thrived in my mind for all that time.

Coming up with new horror movie conventions was going tonget harder by the 4th movie. I guess Sydney and Sam can live peaceful lives now?

This is a series that deserves to go out with a bang and not with a whimper. Given the ending of Scream VI, it was never meant to stop there. Scream 4 at least had the benefit of the Extended Ending on the DVD giving a nice epilogue that felt like an appropriate enough ending of the series at the time certainly.

Yea, the "rules of the movie" was a clever bit, but got more and more labored the more movies were made.

Scream VI set up a few things that clearly were meant to get followed up on. At this point really no matter what they do it's going to be a bad look, outside of walking back on everything.
