I think Tough Act to Follow is more appropriate but that can be put on the main mcu ymmv
"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."This is from The Simpsons S8 E20 "The Canine Mutiny":
What many fans think of this episode. It's actually not a bad episode on its own, but considering it came from season 8, which was really shaking up the status quo with convention-defying episodes ("The Simpsons Spin-Off Showcase"), daring subject matter (at the time) ("Homer's Phobia"), commentaries on the relationship between a long-running show and its fans ("The Itchy & Scratchy & Poochie Show"), some of the darkest humor yet ("Homer's Enemy", "My Sister, My Sitter"), brand new settings that took a lot of effort to produce ("You Only Move Twice"), set-ups for character arcs ("A Milhouse Divided", "Grade School Confidential"), experimental animation ("El Viaje de Nuestro Jomer"), some brief character changes ("Hurricane Neddy", "Brother From Another Series"), light dramatic offerings ("The Homer They Fall"), and wild, over-the-top storylines ("The Twisted World of Marge Simpson", "Homer vs. the Eighteenth Amendment"), "The Canine Mutiny" feels a little conventional and light by comparison.
If anything, this seems more like a Breather Episode for Season 8 overall. Not every episode is going to be over-the-top, dark or satirical, and some of the episodes listed here are divisive in their own right.
Tough Act to Follow feels weird, though, in that it's comparing a movie to TV series.
Hey, I tried adding so okay it’s average for Black Widow, not knowing that it had already been removed. Personally I think there’s nothing wrong with that trope in this instance. Seems the general reaction isn’t giving it too much praise or criticism and Seinfeld is unfunny and tough act to follow definitely don’t feel like the right replacements, especially the latter given how long it’s been since a marvel film.
I mean, if I remember correctly the page already saw critical dissonance removed because audience reception is mixed and not too passionate either way like with the critics.

We have a one-month waiting period for adding new So Okay, It's Average entries as a way to curb knee-jerk additions. Technically, it hasn't passed that point yet (if we're going by US release dates, it'd be August 9th), so it can't be added yet.

Didn’t know that and the removal made no mention of that, but sounds good. Still say the reaction right now certainly fits in with so okay it’s average, but we’ll just wait and see when the time comes for the trope
Bringing up the following example from Star Trek III: The Search for Spock:
- So Okay, It's Average: Typically considered a decent film that had the bad luck to be sandwiched between two much better ones. As SF Debris puts it, "The biggest sin of Star Trek III is that it's an okay film with a brilliant epic trapped inside begging to be let out."
Bringing up the following example from Cutthroat Island:
- So Okay, It's Average: Watching the film without any of its historical background in mind can easily give the impression that it is just a small step away from being a legitimately great movie. Everything — the action, the humour, the dialogue, the romance, the characters — is generally okay, sometimes even good, but it carries something that makes it seem just a bit... off. It might be the on-set climate of its Troubled Production leaking in, the inexperience of some cast members, or simply that, as said above, the genre Cutthroat Island buried was really dying by itself and it didn't translate well to the cinema style of The '90s. The only thing that totally works is John Debney's score, which is phenomenal - in fact, some people have said it's actually too good, as in so epic that the movie can't live up to it and draws attention to how mediocre everything else is.
Bringing up the following example from Spider-Man 3:
- So Okay, It's Average: Although the movie has its fair share of problems, some fans have started to see it as this, contrasting So Bad, It's Good. Despite the obvious Narm, there are still some good scenes (the birth of Sandman and Spider-Man rejecting the Symbiote) that can match the bad ones, making it resemble this trope.
Bringing up the following example from The Fifteen Seventeen To Paris:
- So Okay, It's Average: While many thought the film was well-intentioned and ambitious in casting real-life people as themselves, there’s not much to chew on narratively and the film as a whole feels rather by-the-numbers.
There are three individual Family Guy episodes that have this trope on their respective YMMV pages. All three of them are from season 12, and each entry amounts to "This episode is not bad for an episode from the worst season of the show". Should they be removed for misuse and/or stealth complaining? Specifically:
- Quagmire's Quagmire: Some fans find this episode passable, especially since it is among what a lot of people consider to be the worst season of the show.
- Grimm Job: A lot of Family Guy fans have said that this is one of the more tolerable episodes, especially in the hated season 12.
- Chap Stewie: A lot of people have said that this episode is hardly anything special, but still decent and it's at least gracious enough to end a season that was filled with bad episodes.
Like you said, you can probably remove them for being misuse and bashing, plus they're all Zero Context Examples.
The Emoji Movie has a SOIA entry despite having a SBIH entry. Given the movie’s vicious panning from both critics and audiences I think SBIH is the one more worthy of staying.
Why waste time when you can see the last sunset last?Yeah, it’s not an “Average” movie
Just made a server on discord.Come join me.From So... You're a Cartoonist?:
- So Okay, It's Average: His artwork in more recent years has a more noticeable dip in quality. But it isn't terrible either.
Mostly it seems like a completely pointless comment and a single troper treating their opinion as widespread.
It's also a violation of Examples Are Not Recent, feel free to cut it.
From Lola & Virginia:
- So Okay, It's Average: The show is often used as an example of a forgettable cartoon due to its expendable story and a cast of characters who are nothing more than archetypes.
"Often used" by who, exactly? One of those obnoxious cartoon reviewers that get their opinions parroted on this site, I suspect, but without even going into specifics it's basically just a ZCE and should be cut on that basis alone.
Super Mario 3D Land is listed but I think the game is only considered OK by 3D Mario Standards. Does the game really qualify even in retrospect?
Why waste time when you can see the last sunset last?Personally, I'd say no. It's a above average game in its own right. I see it more as a victim of Tough Act to Follow.
Does this entry I wrote up for Yoshi's Crafted World seem good to go? This isn’t my opinion (I love the game despite its flaws), I’m just trying the common opinion of the game from what I’ve observed.

Why waste time when you can see the last sunset last?Is that supposed to be about Crafted World or Woolly World?
Crafted World. I wrote the wrong title by mistake.
Why waste time when you can see the last sunset last? The one thing I would change is removing the few extra "and"s in the second sentence. So it would be:
- It has amazing aesthetics, a good amount of content, and is a fun and relaxing experience but many feel it's too easy due to the flat level design, lack of any truly dangerous hazards, extremely overpowered costumes, is let down by music that ranges from bland to ear-grating and endless souvenir hunting that destroys the game's pacing.

The general opinion I've heard is that even if it smacks strongly of "too little too late", it's still a very good film on its own, much better than the "average" the trope asks for. Seinfeld Is Unfunny would be a better fit and even then it's not a good one.
