I don't think that's actually part of the definition anymore. TRS expanded it a few years ago due to rampant misuse.

• There is no favoritism in Nijisanji.^Explanation After Selen's termination, Vox would say this in a PR statement issued by the company. This line would be very heavily memed as a result, garnering a lot of comparisons to "There is no war in Ba Sing Se" due to coming from the poster boy of a generation widely considered to be a company favorite.

Something that hasn't been brought up yet in this thread is that the other Nijisanji pages have this note in the page source:

Yes.

The Memetic Mutation section in YMMV.Willys Chocolate Experience could use some work. There are some actual memes that spawned from the event (The Unknown and Oompa-Loompa Bartender even have Know Your Meme pages), but the execution of the entries leaves a lot to be desired.

The memes are buried in paragraphs that have some complaining in them. The fourth paragraph also has a dated part about a Running Gag of the identity of The Unknown being Kate Middleton (whose absence from public eye has since been explained as her having cancer), dated almost immediately after the page was made by it being confirmed as some local teenager. Can any of this be salvaged with the "Meme (with explanation note)" format?

How does this look?

• Memetic Mutation: The whole thing was so loaded with problems that it spread like wildfire on social media, but memes quickly centered on these things in particular:
  • Willy's Chocolate Experience is Krabby Land ^explanation The experience in general has been widely compared to Krabby Land from SpongeBob SquarePants, with numerous memes, edits and explanation videos comparing Willy's Chocolate Experience to the eponymous Crappy Carnival.
  • Bartender/Meth Lab Oompa Loompa ^explanation One particular pic of the event that went viral featured a Wonkidoodle (one of the not-Oompa-Loompas) in the Jellybean Room, standing next to a table with a chemistry set on it and smoke rising behind her, while having an expression that's equal parts depressed, bored, sour, frustrated and humiliated. Everyone agreed that the whole setup looked more like a meth lab than a chocolate factory, with many memes containing references to Breaking Bad.
    • The Oompa Loompa is Squidward ^explanation As an extention of the comparisons with Krabby Land mentioned above, some people have likened Paterson's depressed expression to Squidward Tentacles, and often cast him as the "depressed Oompa Loompa" in crossover memes.
    YouTube commenter (as Mr. Krabs): Now Mr. Squidward, you'll be playing one of the Oompa Loompas in the new Wonka experience at Krabby Land. Here's a chemistry set. Do something with it! (scuttles away)
  • The Unknown ^Explanation The completely insane concept of "an evil chocolate maker who lives in the walls" turned The Unknown into an overnight Memetic Badass favorite, especially inspired by a widely-seen video from the event where one of the rotating performers playing Willy says "What is that? It's The Unknown!" in a tone of Dull Surprise, then The Unknown emerges from behind a mirror and scares a child. Some people have even noted that The Unknown is exactly the kind of eccentric, macabre villain that Roald Dahl might've come up with. It's also received some overlap with Dead by Daylight, which also has a villain called the Unknown (thought that Unknown is a mite scarier than the villain of the Experience). People cosplaying as the Unknown were spotted at Dublin Comic Con and ACME Glasgow not long after.

Someone added a meme to Family Guy, but it didn't originate from the show itself and involves a racial slur. That's enough reason to cut it, isn't it?

It's definitely a real meme I've seen pop up, and it does have a Know Your Meme page that you linked to. Though whoever added it to Memes.Family Guy didn't add an explanation.

On the other hand, we don't have entries for other off-color memes that are also mentioned on the Know Your Meme page, like Peter saying "Holy fuck, I'm cumming." But that could just be because nobody has thought to add it yet.

Maybe it could be kept if the explanation note specifically makes clear that it's used in a racist way, frequently. Like the Know Your Meme page does.

On a different note, while that page recently had vandalism by Comrade Tom (where each "Explanation" note was changed to "Peter here to explain the meme") reverted, NES Boy just put one back for the "Peter Explains The Joke" meme, with the edit reason "Instead of completely reverting the change from "Explanation" to "Peter here to explain the meme", we should have kept it just for this example, since it's appropriate. I mean, it's not like we're gonna change "Crack." or "No. I'm sorry.", right?"

I don't mind keeping it for that one entry, but I just want to see if we should discuss that edit, since we just had a discussion on ATT about fixing the page.

I'd honestly rather have it across the board or not at all, and I don't mind having it for the whole page (I don't think it's any less unwieldy than the "Explanation" labelnote already is; there's just slightly more text to type). Having it for just one entry is confusing and sticks out.

Okay so, Memes.One Piece has got this example edited today (it's censored on the page, but i removed an r to put it here):

Is this Memetic Loser example for Mighty No. 9 okay? I edited it from the previous version of this entry to focus more on the character and citing how you saw the perception change with the audience. I'm hoping it isn't that complainy, I'm just trying to stick to mentioning the facts. I remember I brought up Lucas of Pokémon Diamond and Pearl here previously, and consensus counted him as an example due to how he's treated by the franchise, so I assume Beck similarly counts due to circumstances of the game's production.

• With the many delays, growing pains, and the infamous launch for Mighty No. 9, Beck, the main character, changed from one of the faces of successful Kickstarter games, to a punchline for everything that can go wrong with a Kickstarter game, as seen in fanart made before and after the controversies began. This perception only strengthed when Capcom promptly made the very well-received Mega Man 11 in-house, which caused many to depict Beck as nothing more than a cheap knockoff in comparison to Mega Man.

• With the many delays, growing pains, and the infamous launch for Mighty No. 9, Beck changed from the face of successful Kickstarter games, to the face of everything that can go wrong with a Kickstarter game. Not helping matters was that this game was meant to be a Spiritual Successor to Mega Man without Capcom's involvement, only for Capcom to promptly make the very well-received Mega Man 11 in-house and only a fairly short time later, making Mighty No. 9 look like nothing more than a pale imitation.

I don't think works can qualify for that. It's a character thing.

I think you're misunderstanding, the entry was about Beck, the character. The perception of the game affected the perception of him since he was pushed as the face of the game used as an example of Kickstarter games for a long time before reception soured, and thus became a punching bag for everything wrong with the game and how it's compared to Mega Man 11.

Ah. I'm still not sure it fits, but I definitely misread it.

@The Wrong One 41 I think you can cut that, as that doesn't look like it was in either the original Japanese dub or the English one. I'd even go as far as to say it's vandalism. Memes that are just being racist like that aren't things we really need, especially if it's so niche people haven't seen it. EDIT:Sorry, this is about memes, so it doesn't need to be in the original. Still I'd say cut due to being just racism and obscure.
