I say it qualifies.

"Listen up, Marina, because this is SUPER important. Whatever you do, don't eat th“ “DON'T EAT WHAT?! Your text box ran out of space!”For what, the Vivo example?
I do some cleanup and then I enjoy shows you probably think are cringe.Yes.
"Listen up, Marina, because this is SUPER important. Whatever you do, don't eat th“ “DON'T EAT WHAT?! Your text box ran out of space!”Found this example on InformedSpecies.Animated Films:
- Balto:
- Steele is a malamute with Icy Blue Eyes. Malamutes can only have brown eyes, As a result, Steele looks more like a husky than a malamute.

That's just Artistic License – Biology.
I do some cleanup and then I enjoy shows you probably think are cringe.I’ll snip.
"Listen up, Marina, because this is SUPER important. Whatever you do, don't eat th“ “DON'T EAT WHAT?! Your text box ran out of space!”So I found this Phineas and Ferb example on the main page.
The image is wrong, but it seems to be the typical image of what people think a velociraptor looks like, so it's actually Artistic License – Biology.
And then there is this jewel:
The lower one can be cut with predjudice. The upper one isn’t even Artistic License, just a cartoon Velociraptor.

Here are some recently added examples by (surprise) thenabster126 to InformedSpecies.Western Animation
- Horace Horsecollar does not resemble a horse nor does Clarabelle resemble a cow.
- Gyro Gearloose does not resemble a chicken.
I agree that Horace looks more like a cow than a horse, but I think the other two (at least Clarabelle) are pretty recognisible.
But wait... Horace is already on the page.

I'm mainly a fan of underrated media. The Nabster has started an edit war. They keep trying to add Perry even though he's pretty easy to identify as a platypus based on the duck bill and beaver tail. I'll be sending them a DM and maybe link to this thread.
With Horace I guess it depends on which era you are talking about, but in most appearances, I have always recognized as a horse. Same with Clarabelle being a cow. About Gyro, I admit if I had been asked before to say which species he is, I wouldn't have guessed chicken.
Probably need more opinions on these guys, but Clarabelle seems to really be easy identifiable as a cow.
Hello peeps…sorry if it seemed like I edit warred. As someone who is kinda interested in zoology, I thought that this trope was was for characters who didn’t resemble their species, not characters who can be recognized because they have some traits of the real life animal.
That's not a problem since it wasn't intentional. I added misused examples myself before I saw this thread.
I'm mainly a fan of underrated media.Pokemon examples take up about a quarter of the Video Games page, but I'm wondering if any of them qualify at all, since they're all fantastic species that are merely inspired by real life creatures (and often multiple ones). After all, Pikachu isn't a mouse, it's a Pikachu. Has there been any discussion of what to do with cases like this?
While a lot of Pokémon are based on real animals, they aren’t the animals themselves so I don’t think they count as examples.

Macron's notesThere's also a huge debate over which real-life animal Eevee is based on.
Some say that Eevee is based on a fox. Some say that Eevee is based on a cat (or a hybrid between a cat and a rabbit).

Kirby is awesome. And the answer to that is: Eevee is a fictional creature based on many animals, like cats, foxes, and dogs.
Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure PurenessEven ignoring that Pokemon aren't real life animals.
Like what we would consider "mammals" lay eggs their. Cross breed. They can manipulate the elements. Etc.

"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."I concur 100%. Snip ‘em all.
As for Horace, he does not really look like a horse, but he looks more like a horse than any other animal.

"Listen up, Marina, because this is SUPER important. Whatever you do, don't eat th“ “DON'T EAT WHAT?! Your text box ran out of space!”This was just added to the main page.
- Some of the characters in Hazbin Hotel don't look that much like the animals they're supposed to be. The most egregious example is Vaggie, who is stated to be a moth but looks like a gray human.
I'm pretty sure Vaggie isn't meant to be a literal moth, but just a moth-themed demon.
Yes. I think this one can be cut. She has moth symbolism, but is not stated to be a moth.
For the Pokémon examples, I think the only ones that can stay are the ones that are 1. explicitly based on a specific real-world animal and 2. not immediately recognizable as that animal. There actually aren't as many of those as you might think; one of the few examples I can think of is Pidgeotto, whose Japanese name is literally "Pigeon", even though it looks more like a hawk.
What do you think of this example from Vivo?
This is the clip mentioned in the example. I think Vivo does look different from a kinkajou and similar to a monkey enough to qualify.
