With the Mace Windu duel I'm pretty sure Mace won, Palpatine had to take a gamble here. It was part of the reason as to why he wanted Obi-Wan out of the picture. It is a problem that has cropped up in the EU. Palpatine was a very good planner but he wasn't perfect. There were times when things didn't go his way and he had to adapt. The EU just made him perfect planner who is 10 steps ahead of everyone.
If there is one thing I despise, it is people claiming that Palpatine lost to Mace on purpose, when he very obviously did not.
He outright killed 3 other Jedi Masters moments before, and he tried to fry Mace with Force Lightning, right in front of Anakin.
It's only after that failed too, that he resorted to begging his way out.

And he got his own POV story in From A Certain Point of View: Return of the Jedi!
Who are you guys' fave minor characters?
The Protomen enhanced my life.,
There's a reason I tend to describe Revenge of the Sith as the last possible time the Jedi Order could have stopped the Sith and survived, even if badly bloodied.
There's so many things that could have gone wrong after he revealed himself to Anakin, including Anakin just not showing up in time to save his life.
But in the end the gamble paid off and he came out on top (even if he got his face melted).
It genuinely makes for an interesting story than "Sidious is such a good schemer, he's got everyting right 100 % of the time".
And honestly, we know that Sidious doesn't get everything right because we have multiple instances of him getting caught on the backfoot during the Clone Wars.
Padmé and her political allies constantly screw with his militarisation of the Republic, Maul was such a massive Spanner in the Works that he personally went to Mandalore to clean house and there was also that time he almost got killed by the Zillo Beast.
Yes, the great Sith conspiracy could have essentially ended because of Sidious getting eaten by a kaiju.
Nevermind that he got thrown down a reactor shaft two decades later and he definitely did not see that one coming.

Welcome to Estalia, gentlemen. As I said before, the Sith are really lousy once you actually look at their track record.
It says something when a Minion with an F in Evil like Barriss actually got better results in hunting down Jedi and defeating them in combat than an Inquisitor who fully embraced the Dark Side like Lyn. Lyn only got dead ends and loses all her lightsaber fights. The only reason why the Sith seem superior is that they are trained to overwhelm the likes of Jedi Masters early in the fight. The longer a duel goes, however, the Jedi gets the upper hand because the Sith are easily predictable once the surprise wears off.
It's interesting that Palpatine had to resort to betting his life on telling Anakin he's the sith lord because he was running out of war, didn't yet have grounds for executing order 66.
I actually question what Palpatine envisioned for Anakin in an ideal scenario. We know he needed an actual jedi to to access the archives and send out a return to temple transmission (which Yoda and Obi Wan rectified) but you have to imagine Palpatine envisioned more from Anakin considering how much effort he put into grooming him.
I imagine Anakin was originally meant to testify against the Jedi after the coup attempt. The face of the clone wars preaching for twenty years that the Jedi were evil would have really hampered the jedi surviving.
Really I think Palpatine had hoped Anakin would become a double agent and help him engineer the coup to work as in his favour as possible, father than immediately tell the Order's most powerful warrior.
I mean as much as I dislike him being brought back in Rise and how he is ultimately used
Palpy does fuck up the entire plan cause he HAS to gamble everything on Rey instead of just taking the easy option of Kylo
Kylo is strong enough that Palpy will be subsumed by the Sith Quickening ritual leaving Kylo as the dominate persona while Rey He's got a shot at being in the driver's seat
There is always been a running debate about how many Jedi were under Palpy's thumb cause a Number of the higher ranked Inquisitors weren't beaten up Padawans but Knights and Masters
The Grand Inquisitor seems to Replace Jerec's role of Jedi Turncoat

I would imagine that Rey was stronger in the Force than Ren was. Plus, you know, Palpatine's granddaughter.

That Rey and Ben Solo are powerful in the force always seemed like an informed attribute to me.
That is, they suffered to beat some Praetorians.
With what has been demonstrated, Rey does not seem different to me than an Inquisitor or Ahsoka from season 4-5.
The Sith being lousy once again emphasizes Yoda’s point. The Dark Side is not more powerful, just more seductive.
“Faith in your new apprentice, misplaced may be. As is your faith in the dark side of the Force.”
Disgusted, but not surprisedWhen you think about, the only Sith that is able to legitimately beat a Jedi Master in the films in a prolong duel is Darth Maul against Qui-Gon. And it's a fair fight all things considered. But even that is mainly due to the fact the Jedi have never encountered a Sith for a long time, and Maul was trained from birth to become a Sith Warrior by Sidious.
And Maul ruined his moment of trimph by getting cold cocked by Qui Gon's Padawan because he was too busy gloating.
Wake me up at your own risk.Their Final Fight says otherwise... like I might not like Kylo but He is NOT the whiny manchild he was in Last
He's cold methodical and in control like
Hell I'd say he's at his most effective as a villain...

Nach jeder Ebbe kommt die Flut.I'm reminded of the Death Star novel, where the survivors who DID defect from the Empire in light of what it did, do mourn the ones who couldn't escape but accept that the Death Star HAD to be destroyed.
Even the man who fired the laser was filled with guilt and made sure to stall for as much time as possible so Luke could blow up the Death Star.
I'll teach you a lesson about just how cruel the world can be. That's my job, as an adult.I assume there were janitors/cooks/other basic task guys who weren't informed about what the government was doing and just joined up for their 401 K. I doubt the guys doing the basic upkeep were all informed they were working on a genocide satellite
I mean, when Sidious starts fighting, he’s enjoying it, and did fight Yoda to a standstill.
