Casting has been announced for Rand, Mat, Perrin, Egwene & Nynaeve.
They did have to compromise a little with Perrin's actor being a bit taller than Rand.
But in my view the trade offs in selecting for acting talent are likely more than worth the minor changes from the books.
Even then they managed to get a gray eyed Rand, which is great.

"But if that happened, Melia might actually be happy. We can't have that." - Handsome RobIt's a bare start, but what I presume to be Amazon's You Tube account has posted a brief (few-second) teaser-clip for Moiraine. It just shows a close-up on Rosamund Pike as Moiraine-sedail; she speaks a few words, and then is bathed in light.

My Games & WritingI guess full trailer will drop in few days.
Children of Dievas - my webcomic about the Northern CrusadesThat would be nice, I think. I know that I've been somewhat excited about this series, so I'm enthused to see something coming of it!
My Games & WritingMe too. I was worried that production had grinded to a complete halt when covid swept across the globe.
Children of Dievas - my webcomic about the Northern CrusadesWhat the hell?
When?
How?
Why?
Where are the books to read in perpetration?
Trans rights are human rights. TV Tropes is not a place for bigotry, cruelty, or dickishness, no matter who or their position.Much as with the Moiraine clip above, a new teaser-clip has been released for Lan.
In it, we hear a brief line of dialogue from Lan (presumably), followed by two brief shots of the Warder in combat.

My Games & WritingLan looks a bit youngish to me. This guy is hardly a kid, but I imagined him with more gray at the temples.
I think that I was expecting someone a little more burly, primarily. But yes, perhaps also a little older.
However, I'm not opposed to this Lan!
[edit] Looking up the actor, if I have the right person then he's 42! That seems like an appropriate age for Lan, I feel—the actor would seem to just be someone who looks relatively young.

My Games & WritingI agree. I'm not opposed to this Lan either, but I did picture Lan as older and, as you say, burlier.
In the books, the guys in the main cast are all pretty tall; Mat and Perrin are supposed to be about 6 feet tall, and Lan and Rand are supposed to be, like, 6'5" or so.
That's the kind of thing that can make casting difficult.
Nach jeder Ebbe kommt die Flut.Right, and I don't really expect them to try to match heights. It was a thing in the books, for instance, that the Aiel were all super tall, but I doubt that's something they'll bother to try to emulate. Jordan gave the various people of his world specific racial characteristics (Aiel were tall and fair-haired, the Cairhienin were short, the Sea Folk are essentially Africans, etc). but I expect in most cases that kind of thing will be ignored for casting reasons, unless a character's specific appearance is important. The actors playing Perrin and Nyneave are both black, for instance, while in the books the Two-Rivers people were all essentially Celt-Iberians, like the ethnic French and Spanish. None of it's a problem, or at least it shouldn't be.

I can only think of a few cases where a character's appearance is really important (Rand looking distinctly Aiel, Perrin being physically large).
Nach jeder Ebbe kommt die Flut. There's an argument to be made for Faile's nose being "hawk-like", as I recall that it comes up a few times, and even ties into her name.
Another such trait might be Nynaeve's braid.
An idle thought sparked by this is that Lanfear will presumably run into what I might call "the Arwen effect": She's described as being amazingly beautiful, amongst the most beautiful to ever live, if I'm not much mistaken. But in casting a single person to play her, the subjective nature of beauty means that this comes somewhat informed for some people, as no one person is that beautiful to everyone, I daresay.
There's no criticism here, please note—just idle opinion.
My Games & WritingYeah, a woman having her hair in a braid is supposed to be a mark of adulthood in the Two Rivers. And it is supposed to be a point that people keep thinking Rand is an Aiel (including other Aiel) because he looks so much like one.
A short "motion title treatment" for the show:
Interestingly, it looks like they're eschewing the wheel and "infinity symbol" of the books, instead going with a spiral that resolves into an Ouroboros.
It looks pretty cool, I think. ^_^

My Games & WritingSo it's coming out this year, nice.
Children of Dievas - my webcomic about the Northern CrusadesOh, hey, I actually missed the year-mark! Well caught, and that is enthusing news! ^_^
My Games & Writing-tugs braid-
New theme music also a boxIt looks like we have a release date!
Well, month.
What seems to be the Wheel of Time Twitter account has put out a tweet indicating that the series is to start in November.
That tweet also included a poster (itself likewise indicating November). That poster shows Moiraine (I believe it to be) standing in what looks to be a great open-air entranceway, facing into light beneath dark clouds. In the foreground are myriad coloured threads—a hint, perhaps, of how the series will depict the One Power.
My Games & WritingEntertainment Weekly has some new stills from the show.
Kinda weird that the production guys is bragging about wasting money in the article.
With today's announcement of casting Rosamund Pike as Moiraine. I'd say its time for us to have a thread for the Amazon adaption of The Wheel of Time.
Since it's been confirmed to be going forward for a while now.
