I wonder if it has something do with that red light he's seen staring up into in the trailer.

Ok, who let Light Yagami in here? For people who like embedded media:
Well, that was creepy.
One Strip! One Strip!I hope there's more going on here than just "What if Superman were an evil asshole?'
Seems more like something along the lines of "What if you gave a child who has yet to develop a moral compass superhuman abilities, thus making it nigh impossible for him to learn empathy or respect for authority?" Most "What if Superman were evil" stories I've seen just take the already-established character of Supes and just make him evil, without really delving into his childhood and how he would have developed into that sort of evil, or even how the world would be radically different if you had a super-powered evil individual growing up in it.

I must say, this kid's going from 0-100 real quick on the psycho meter. Goes from breaking a girl's hand to murdering her mother after mentally traumatizing her, then brings down a jet?!
Yeah, no, I'm sticking with Shazam.
Man if this is actually Superboy-Prime the movie...
Brandon has seemingly been contained, his mom is saying she'll try and work with him to bring out the good in him. And then the sky erupts and turns red. A gigantic mechanical horror with great glowing eyes stands present, looking down at the earth. The being breaths, and a satellite is eroded away. Our world is destroyed in a colossal wave of power, only Brandon surviving and waking up amidst people he does not know.
I like love how the font resembles Man of Steel’s.

I'm reminded of Kid Miracleman, myself.
Disgusted, but not surprisedThere's plenty of precedent in the comics. But I don't think we've had an evil Not-Superman movie yet.
"These 'no-nonsense' solutions of yours just don't hold water in a complex world of jet-powered apes and time travel."Even Chronicle wasn't really that though; the kid in Brightburn seems like a psycho to begin with, the guy in Chronicle just wants everyone to leave him alone after spend his entire life being beaten on by his shitbag father.
Well the Chronicle kid went way off the deep end - started off kicking SO Bs but by the end was punting puppies left right and centre. But it was about him becoming a villain. Bright Burn seems to have been a psycho from the start.
"These 'no-nonsense' solutions of yours just don't hold water in a complex world of jet-powered apes and time travel."Of course, Brightburn is also scarier since at least The Craft and Chronicle also had good teens who also had superpowers who were able to counter the evil superpowered teens.
Disgusted, but not surprisedI do wonder how they're going to deal with the kid in the end, though. He's invulnerable, can fly at high speeds, super-strength, heat vision...
They'll bring another super powered kid to counter him,or a girl
New theme music also a boxOr they won't deal with him at all. The Bad Guy Wins.

"These 'no-nonsense' solutions of yours just don't hold water in a complex world of jet-powered apes and time travel."My bet is that the movie ends with his mother tricking him into eating poison, having finally decided he's too dangerous.
Disgusted, but not surprisedEveryone’s got a kryptonite.
Hah, I wonder if there was a Lex Luthor analogue in this...
They may still have the ship he came to Earth in. That symbol he keeps drawing will probably also factor into it. I'm not a huge fan of horror but I do appreciate the subversive qualities the movie is playing up. It is amusing how a lot of horror movies lately are playing up psychopathic children (The Prodigy, Hereditary, Brightburn), obviously Creepy Child is a long standing trope but this seems like a trend.
Gunn has shared some promotional material on Twitter that consists of an extended trailer and a poster that says the movie is rated R for "horror violence/bloody images, and language".
I have seen some major spoilers for this one. Rest assured that the R-rating is well-earned. The earlier trailer and release date made me suspect a very hard PG-13. Nope.

From everything I've seen so far this film seems it may as well be a straight up adaptation of Irredeemable. Though granted we know very little for definite yet (was he always evil, did he turn, if so - why etc).
