Of the many, many, many examples on Crossover.Fan Works, a lot of them either A) have zero context or simply state what works are crossing over, B) are for fanfics that don't have pages on here, C) a general statement on what works are commonly crossed over, D) listing an author who's written a lot of crossover fics instead of the works themselves, or E) some combination of the above. A good chunk of them also have natter and Word Cruft, and the "please alphabetize your examples" notice at the top of the page is commonly ignored.

If Crossover is a Genre instead of a Trope, then we don't need to describe entries beyond what they crossover.

Making it simple to handle new entries.

Would entail making all of the subpages, and the Main page, Indexes.

Could make a separate section for frequent crossover makers. Maybe sub-sub pages.

Hm, I support any clean-up and quality improvement drive on the wiki. However, I'm so heavily involved in others (ZCE mainly) that I feel I can't commit my time.

However, I'd support making this a genre trope with a list of works. I'd require several things to be mentioned:

  • Name of the fic, either link to the work or better to a fic work page (but I wouldn't remove works from the list for not having a TV Tropes page if the fic is still up and its text can be accessed)
  • Links to canon works that constitute the crossover. All of them, no implied or "too obvious" works.
  • OPTIONAL: Any context about what the fic is about could be put in an expandable note.

This is how it could look:

Or perhpaps:

This should be a NO-NO:

NOTE: Recently, I sorted out examples on Doppelgänger Crossover. It was a mess, if I may say so — lots of implications about who the actor is, what works are the source for the fic are, and sink holes everywhere (characters linked to work pages).

It's not in an ideal state even now because some fics are mentioned twice (e.g. once as Firefly crossovers, second time among Castle crossovers — but that was done because originally people mentioned specific work and ensemble examples instead of specific actors).

I wouldn't limit the basic premise of the work to being in a note, but yes, this needs a cleanup.
