Ok, before we start, a few more notes:

  • This is going to be a "Sandbox" style game. While there is an overarching storyarc (the war between the FF villains) the players decide where to go and what to do, and I take it from there.
  • You can gain Summons, but not necessarily by beating them. Each has its own individual condition that must be met.
  • There are no Skills; instead assume every Job automatically knows all about matters regarding its occupation eg. a Warrior knows all about weapons, a Mage knows the history of spellcraft, an Engineer knows everything about machines etc.
  • Races usually have special abilities, but also have flaws as well; for example a Chocobo can attack with its beak and legs, but can only say "Kweh!".
  • each Job has a Base ability, and equipment restrictions. See the Wiki for details.
  • Spells come in four levels. The names of Second Level spells all end with "ra", the Third Level spells end in "ga". The Fourth Level spells are known as Legendary spells and are incredibly rare and powerful (such as Ultima).
    • Spells and summons cost Mana to use. Assume its 1 mana per level. You have Mana equal to the highest level spell or summon you know. An Ether recovers 1 Mana (there are stronger consumables of course.) Resting a few hours recovers all Mana.
  • In addition to a weapon, you start with a suit of armor and/or a shield (if permitted by your Job.) A shield prevents equipping two-handed weapons such as bows though. You can equip any number of Accessories but only one of each kind at a time (only one magic belt for example.) You start with one consumable item (potions, ethers etc.); assume you start with no Gil (money) (you spent all of it on your starting equipment)
  • Combat is in Rounds, with each player getting one action per turn (characters under a Haste Spell get two Turns per Round.) NOTE: There is no Initiative- players may act in any order. You have a Day to take your Turn; otherwise it will be assumed the character took the Defense action and we move to the next Round.
  • Since we have no official Advancement system, consider things such as equipment bought or found, Summons gained etc. to be part of your advancement. Also, if the character finds a Materia crystal with a Spell his Job can learn, he or she learns it after casting it once. And yes spells can be used out of combat for mundane things like starting fires. That still costs Mana tho.

All of the above is still under consideration; feedback is welcome.

I'd like to remind players that everyone needs to post once each day (only during combat scenes) or otherwise we move into the next round.

Since we are just beginning I'm willing to you a break this time.

Thanks for putting the image of a fairy (Sylvie) dragging a human around in my mind, Wren. Real comedic genius.

Some lore on the combined FF world

Gaia resembles Earth, with different continents. One of these floats in the sky, thanks to one of the Crystals of the Four Elementals, which sustain the planet. The continent is inhabited and reachable by airship.

There are two moons in the sky, a Red One and a Blue one. The Red One is crawling with monsters that occasionally swarm into the planet, an event known as the "lunar cry". The Blue Moon is hollow, since its actually a gigantic alien spaceship.

Gaia is rich in mana (magical energy) but its not evenly distributed; in some areas its so thick that its visible as a Mist; often magicite crystals can be found there. In areas known as Jagds, there's so little that most magical devices including magicite-powered airships do not work.

There is a wide variety of sentient races in this world, but the Hume (humans) is the most widespread and dominant.

Technology used to be of Medieval Level until recently when more advanced machines became available after reverse-engineering some found in ruins of the cities of The Ancients, an advanced civilization that destroyed itself in a terrible war a thousand years ago.

Each Job in Gaia represents a Guild that fulfills a function, for example the Summoners Guild is the main religion, the Engineers Guild handle all technological matters etc.

Thank you, I'm recovered now. smile

By the way, if any of you want to see anything specific from any of the final Fantasies- locations, monsters, characters, items etc. let me know and I will work them into the story.

Awesome. I think the town of Tida would be a good location for the group to explore. What do you guys think?

Hey everyone, sorry I have not been working on the game.

I've been sick, working on helping my friend fix his house, running other games and -worst of all- blocked on ideas for the story right now.

I mean, I know what I want to do, but not how to get there yet, or how to pick up the pace. Final Fantasy is deceptively hard to write.

Still, if you guys still want to play, I will give this another crack. I love FF and writing this has always been one of my unfulfilled goals. Sooner or later, I will complete it!
