Lei's video talks about mobilizing the masses in order to catch spies in China.
Ex-RCMP (civilian) intelligence officer Cameron Otis was found guilty of leaking sensitive information. The SIA was used in the basis on charges being laid against him.
His lawyer wants to appeal.

Putting this article from the CBC. CSIS' BC branch is being called out for its officers allowing a toxic workplace culture to manifest and for rape incidents to go unnoticed. Sickening to hear.
Victor Manuel Rocha, the former U.S. ambassador in Bolivia, was arrested in Miami and accused of being a spy for Cuba since 1981.

Every Hero has his own way of eating yogurtThe article is sadly paywalled.
Canadian National security adviser Jody Thomas said that it's not a prority to have a foreign intelligence agency. Units like the Global Security Reporting Program (GSRP) at Global Affairs and the Department of National Defence's Intelligence unit (not sure on specific unit) do fill the gaps for foreign intelligence.
FWIW, I think it's seriously about time Canada has one. But I agree with her that the CSIS Act needs to be changed.

There's a network of Russian disinfo groups using Tik Tok to push lies that officials are buying nice stuff overseas.
Reports imply that some of the disinfo worked to wreck Reznikov's work in the Defense Ministry to make everyone else grow weary of Zelensky.

FT revealed that Frank Creyelman of Vlaams Belang (Flemish Interest) party (he's pro-Flmemish naionalist and a right-wing politician) was paid off by the MSS to run their interests in Belgium.
Interesting case happening in South Korea. A South Korean who's conscripted to the navy is arrested for providing confidential information to someone in China. He's also arrested for "praising" North Korea, which isn't allowed.

Turkey's MIT conducted arrests on unnamed persons supposedly conducting "activities" on behalf of Mossad.
Globe and Mail has sadly walled this up. Used a paywall website to remove it. But I can summarize that Yuekang Li wanted to study at the University of Waterloo for microfluidics.
The courts didn't allow him to come to the university since Yuekang Li studied at a university in Beijing with close ties to the Chinese military and his research can be used for the military. He called the accusations mere speculation. The court also defined his case as an example of "non-traditional" espionage.
Some debates are starting between Canadian national security specialists. Dr. Carolyn Ren, the Canada Research Chair in Microfluidic Technologies, explained in a letter (used as evidence) that microfluidic studies do not have military applications (she didn't do research on it).
Moscow Times has an article in Russian that mentions that the FSB raised a unit called "SMERSH" to investigate espionage activities in the occupied areas of Ukraine by GUR/SBU/whatever Ukrainian intelligence agency/unit is covertly operating there and the pro-Kyiv fighters.
While the FSB has a military counterintelligence department known as DVKR, the SMERSH unit is meant for psychological purposes.
Note that the photo in the article shows them with SMERSH Multicam patches. I have to admit that they look cool.

Long vid from 60 Minutes on Russian ties to the Havana Syndrome:
Do note that they tie it to the GRU.
Hm. The same month there was a report from US National Institutes of Health that suggests Havana syndrome is not real - NYT
I guess that's a clash now.
Have a listen to Vlad. He's born in Russia, but lived entirely in the UK (growing up there). Vlad gives his thoughts on the reveal that Havana Syndrome is caused by the GRU.
If the Russians can somehow deal Psychic damage to U.S. personnel, then why aren't they doing the same to Ukrainian troops?
Where there's life, there's hope."born in Russia, but lived entirely in the UK" - is that the full extent of his credentials? (Or is this a parody?)

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2023/10/23/navy-ends-tradition-chinese-laundrymen-warships-spying-fear/
Article's paywalled. But from reading the full article in Yahoo, the British Navy is changing the rules of having Chinese (HK) nationals working in their ships to do laundry-related work as they fear the MSS can simply "persuade" them to spy on their British (and Commonwealth) colleagues by threatening the safety of their families living in HK. It started as a military tradition from the 30s.
Heard that they got rid of a guy who did the work since his immediate family is still in HK.
