She's already on the verge, but if this film does well (critically and/or financially), it will certainly solidify her as a household name.

Edit: ooh, first time being a page starter.

I've been a fan of Mad Max ever since I first saw The Road Warrior in the late 90's, and so far I've enjoyed all of the movies. I'm quite hopeful about Furiosa, but most of all I am curious about seeing the first movie without Max. Sure, Max has been the Supporting Protagonist in most installments, while the Show, Don't Tell Worldbuilding has more or less become the focus of the franchise over the years. But this is the first movie where we get to see how entertaining the world can be without him at all, if it's interesting enough to not just be a generic post-apocalyptic film. I'm not really worried at all, since we have a familiar character taking center-stage, along with a mostly familiar rogues gallery, while the same director is still in charge. I think that George Miller's vision and direction is what has so far been the unifying factor, which gives the franchise its feel. That's why I'd be more anxious about a hypothetical Mad Max sequel directed by anybody else.

I just find it peculiar to have a movie where the title character does not even appear. At least don't call it Mad Max, then. Call it Mad Furiosa.

Huh, that suddenly sounds a lot sillier.

I don't mind the subtitle being A Mad Max Saga. It tells you that this story whether or not it's about him is still associated with that world. I mean then again, people would've also know that if they called it A Fury Road Saga instead probably/maybe—and Fury Road as it was focused more on Furiosa anyway.

Yeah, A Fury Road Saga would make more sense as a subtitle.

Kinda off-topic, but over the years I've had fun trying to think of which post-apocalyptic and plain dystopic films could reasonably well fit into the Mad Max verse, except that they take place somewhere else. For instance, The Warriors, The Chain Reaction, and Assault on Precinct 13 (1976) seem like they could be roughly set around the same time as Mad Max, a few years before things go really bad. Then movies like Escape from New York would fit in right before The Road Warrior, while Battletruck takes place at the same time. The last one is remarkably similar to Immortan Joe's backstory in the Vertigo comic. Even though George Miller himself feels that the continuity should be loose, I see no harm in pretending that movies like these would show different perspectives of the same general timeline of societal upheaval.

It's pretty easy to combine Mad Max with the Fallout series.

There's also Fist of the North Star if you wanna throw in some Wuxia action in the area that encompasses Tokyo and Asia.

Those two franchises are clearly inspired by Mad Max in many ways, but I would not count them, due to the much more fantastical elements. For the same reason I would not count the Planet of the Apes series. Sure, the word "mutant" has been used about the radiation-sickness that causes so many people to be sick and disfigured, but they are treated much more down-to-earth than in Fallout. Robocop is a hesitant "maybe", because I don't feel that robots and cyborgs would fit in.

Well, if you're being that restrictive, then I guess it can't be done.

Then again, we have the loads of Italian knock-offs as a middle-ground. These often feature more overt nuclear-mutations, robots, and the odd super-lasers. These films function as a bridge between Mad Max and Fallout and Fist of the North Star, by having OTT sci-fi silliness in a visually Mad Max-ian package. That's why I could have two lists of movies that are unofficial parts of the same verse: One for a more grounded timeline, where the movies are our possible future, while the other one is science-fantasy, with robots and rayguns.

Subtitle is really just for the general audience’s benefit. “Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery” is a more egregious example.

That said Max apparently cameos, but played by Hardy’s stunt double Jacob Tomuri.
