Yeah, the Slap has gone down in history in the minds of anti-Sally fans, especially those who ship Amy with Sonic.
Speaking of cameos, the world of the Sonic OVA made and appearance in Issue #101.
Don't you just hate those little things.
Yep. Sega is like "Hey! Let's forbid characters we technically own from being used in other Sonic media!"
I was wondering: if e.g. all Fleetway characters are still owned my Fleetway not Sega, would it be possible to ask them how much they want and pay them trough Kickstarter?
I was considering the same thing regarding Spectacular Spider-Man copyright.
x 4: IIRC, Sega threw a fit about it because, legally, they didn't own the whole thing. The rights were split between multiple companies and Sega could have been sued had said other companies noticed the usage of OVA material in the Archie Sonic comic.
Nowadays, I think one of said companies went bust, so the rights to the OVA are firmly in legal limbo.
If they tried, could Sega HAVE these legal problems solved and be allowed to use these characters?
They could but what's the point? It would take time and money to get few characters that Sega is doing just fine without. Not worth it.
Well, my ideal IDW Sonic is to be a mishmash of all different Sonic continuities akin to their TMNT comics. Having these policies would just seem restrictive. Not to mention a waste of potential.
Of course there are some characters best left forgotten.
I don't know if I want to see Fleetway characters written under new writers... I'm always up for more Tekno though. There's barely any fanworks of her.
Eh,I wouldn't really mind. Some characters like Shortfuse or Porker Lewis were okay, but others like Tekno and Johnny Litefoot really needed some work, especially later on. I did like Johnny for the first 100 issues or so, but after that, the writers just didn't seem to know what to do with him, and he was just kind of there. If anyone could use a new writer to really flesh him out, it's him. Same with Tekno.
Sonic the Comic Online did stuff with Tekno, though it made her fans pretty mad.
The Protomen enhanced my life. What about characters from the OVA, Underground, X, and Boom?
Some characters I would like to see are Scratch and Grounder, Manic, Cosmo, Sticks, and Comedy Chimp.

I must be a minority, but I really like what Online did with Tekno. I'm fond of morally grey characters and Sanity Slippage.
I can't imagine them using any OVA characters. Sara and the owl don't really match the games.
403 Forbidden :(
The Protomen enhanced my life....Strange. I'm not getting that. It works just fine for me. Maybe there's something wrong with your router?
Wait, Sonic the Comic still exists in online form?
Yeeup. Still going on today as a matter of fact.
IDW's presentation on Sonic the Hedgehog isn't until this Sunday, but we do have confirmation that the whole shebang will be starting April 2018.
I can't work out how to read the STC Online strips for toffee with that new layout.
NYCC updates:
- Someone on Twitter found a flyer for IDW's Sonic event with art by Tyson Hesse (a.k.a. the guy who animated Sonic Mania's intro and drew for the Sonic Mega Drive series of comics)!
- Sonic IDW news at NYCC may not end with Sunday’s panel...

Bump.
So earlier this morning, Jen Vaughn (of Adventure Time: 2013 Spoooktacular, Adventure Time Sugary Shorts and Cartozia Tales fame, will be writing Goosebumps: Download and Die for IDW) tweeted about meeting Joe Hughes, the editor for the Sonic IDW comics.
I less-than-subtly asked if it had anything to do with our favorite hedgehog and she unexpectedly responded with this.
Think it means anything?
...Unfortunately said issue was 134 XD;
Ah yes. The infamous Slap. (TM) May it never be forgotten in the annuals of Sonic history. (Unfortunately.)
