I made the resolution not to get anything more until I finished the Pile of Shame, and then my FLGS closed and its successor was significantly further away, meaning that in the end it became easier to just paint nothing.

So now my goal is, say, finish the Rubricae and I can get that Lord-Discordant that my Iron Warriors are salivating over.

Best of luck with that resolution, because it is an admirable undertaking. My personal goal has been to avoid adding too much expensive things to the pile, without finishing the other expensive things first.

Finally getting back into 40K painting with a more* sustainable plan than "don't buy anything until you've painted everything" and have gotten properly started on the Rubricae.

I tried doing the "don't buy anything until you've painted everything" thing before but seeing that I have more unopened GW stuff than many of the independent stockists I have been to in the past, that probably would have meant not buying anything again ever. The Rubricae are looking good.

I am adhereing to that philosophy currently and i must say it worked out quite well so far for me. Luckily my pile of shame was not that massive to begin with and i have got it down to maybe 15 or 20 miniatures. That said i always find minis i absolutely love and now have an extensive backlog of minis i want to buy...

I'm slowly getting done with stuff from the Pile, including this conversion of Gotrek Gurnisson, made from a Blood Boowl Troll Slayer.

Double-post: Painted a Wildkin from the old WOW board-game, wet-blending with a mixture of GSW's dipping inks over a pale gray surface.

I also finished painting a pair of Warcraft-inspired kitbashes, where I turned some Rune Wars minis into Footmen and a Knight.

[up][up]&[up] All of those look great, especially the knigth[tup] Gotrek's axe looks a little on the small size however[lol]

Thanks! I was worried about the axe being a bit too big, since I've used the same type of bread-clippers for a Frost Giant's axe. But it's a god-killing axe, after all.

I have finally got around to taking a picture of the Bloodletters that I painted last month.

Those look really cool! The black-and-bronze Bloodletters remind me of the art of Olivier Ledroit, who drew Requiem Vampire Knight and the concept art for Heroes of Might and Magic V. I would like to see other Khorne demons painted in the same colours, even the old bulky goat-like Bloodletters.

[up][up]Big fan of the bases. Im always a sucker for lava bases and these ones also convey an "invasion" feeling due to the lava replacing the (presumably normal) snow. Like the demons are taking hell with them.

I was working on a mini with a lot of fine detail stuff and decided to relax for a bit and just paint an easy Mindflayer pirate with a Intelect devourer pet (had one lying around as a seperate mini but it fit the remaining free space on the base so well). I also somehow accidentaly took a picture with purple light, which gives it an imo cool alien look (and makes the pet more visible). No idea how that happened, since i use just a blank piece of paper to difuse the light.

[up]Very cool! I like the way you painted the clothes on him. A swashbuckling pirate seems like an odd thing for a Mindflayer to be, but it doesn't really matter.

Thanks. Its not even just a normal pirate, but a spacepirate. Funnily enough it is an official character, Captain Nghathrod. Even has its own Magic the Gathering card.

I do have some Flesh Hounds I am going to paint in the same scheme when I get around to it.

[tup]Thanks. That was look the look that I was going for.

Mindflayer pirate

He looks good. I agree with [up][up] that the cloths are great. They have a nice worn look.

Its not even just a normal pirate, but a spacepirate.

That's not actually that unusual. If I remember correctly, the Mind Flayers were a big part of Spelljammer, Dungeons & Dragons' Magitek space setting.

Double post but here is a picture of the Heavy Intercessors I painted last month for my homemade Astral Fists Chapter.

I quite like the contrasts on these, how the green eyes pop dramatically out from the black faces. It shows how sinister the design for the Primaris can be with the right colour-scheme.

Recently finished this guy after a massive period of not painting. Built to be able to conceivably go onto the table as a Phobos Captain or Phobos Lieutenant. Also my first attempt at the mid-cloaking active camo shift.

[up][up] I like the pattern on his cloak. The gold highlights over bright silver have him looking almost like a steampunk-knight.

[up]I like the warm shade of green you have on him. It fits the Medieval look of the Dark Angels.

[up][up][up]I love the transition on the cloak. The head looking right with the gun that high looks a little awkward though.

[up][up]Looking good.[tup]

[up][up] Thanks very much!

[up] Yeah, the alignment of parts I thought I had done perfectly... Wasn't. Opted not to overhaul all of it (Primaris kits are a touch more challenging for small touches like that in comparison to Firstborn kits). I've found that it isn't too noticeable from above though, and that's going to be the most common angle he'll be viewed from, so decided to leave it. grin

I've built a small cottage for tabletop use. Besides regular craft-paints I've used pigment-powder made from chalk-crayons, to replicate the look of red earth-pigment paint common in Fennoscandia. It matches visually with an ornamental windmill I customized earlier.

[up]That looks awesome[awesome][tup] I have never been much of a fan of painting or modelling scenery but I have often thought about trying to build one of the 2nd Edition-era Ork Huts that I have instructions for in the scenery building guide GW released at the time.

[up]Thanks! I enjoy crafting terrain and like to try my hand at ever more challenging projects. Just by following videos on Youtube, I've been able to handle the various materials to improvise fairly well from the get-go.

When it comes to Orks, I feel that Wyloch put it best, when he said that pretty much every crafting-project is potentially an Ork-project, because you can use absolutely anything to kitbash something Ork-y. That's why Orks are so popular among the online crafting community, because they are much more economically friendly than most other 40K factions, because you can use random junk and old toys just fine. "Orktober" is a pretty big challenge each year.
