The sad fact is that bands like My Bloody Valentine and The Replacements may never see their signatures in that hall, thanks to much of the picks being based off of "influence" and "popularity." The Replacements, influential to post-punk and alternative rock as they are, never achieved that amount of popularity that, say, REM or The Smiths achieved. My Bloody Valentine, meanwhile, falls into a similar category thanks to being a key member of "shoegaze," a genre that isn't even that popular among the public at large, not to mention their style isn't a good representation of the sound (at least in my opinion it ain't, seeing as they hated reverb).
The bands I'm most surprised did not make it were Sonic Youth and Pixies, seeing as both bands managed to be huge influences on alternative rock and grunge, and they both had bits of fame. (Sonic Youth had "Kool Thing," "Bull in the Heather," and "Teen Age Riot"; Pixies had "Here Comes Your Man," "Monkey Gone to Heaven," and "Velouria.")

Anyway, I think that they should have mixed Chic and ELO. As in, give Jeff Lynne the musical excellence award and let Chic in as a proper artist.

The difference here is that Jeff Lynne's career really begins and ends at ELO and the Traveling Wilburys. Nile Rodgers, meanwhile, has a career that spans to the new millennium with, not just Chic, but also tons of production and writing credits (see Daft Punk and David Bowie).
"If you spend all your heart / On something that has died / You are not alive and that can't be a life"About time Yes got inducted. One of the most acclaimed prog bands.
Just another day in the life of Jimmy NutrinSo, which act is going to put up the most controversy? Last time NWA was surprisingly quiet aside from a diss at Gene Simmons, but the others all raised some.
- Journey has the question of if Steve Perry will show up or not, he probably won't, since he's a recluse.
- The members of Yes don't exactly get along. Rabin, Anderson, and Wakeman are in a different band from White and Howe, and the other members are either dead, not in a band, or not getting in. Who will show up?
- ELO has 3 people who are not Jeff Lynne getting in, and there will be bitterness.
- Nile Rogers doesn't like the fact that Chic isn't in.
- Tupac has a lot of old enemies.
- Pearl Jam are upset that not all of their drummers got in.
- Joan Baez has been eligible from the very beginning, so she might be bitter about being ignored for 30+ Years.
Don't worry about Joan. She's far from bitter.
"I never considered myself to be a rock 'n' roll artist," Joan said in a statement. "But as part of the folk music boom which contributed to and influenced the rock revolution of the '60s, I am proud that some of the songs I sang made their way into the rock lexicon. I very much appreciate this honor and acknowledgement by the Hall of Fame."

So, a guy from Yes said that the Rock Hall has an 8 member cap for bands.
That's why some Pearl Jam members aren't getting in, but the band is inviting as many current and former members as possible.
Steve Perry probably won't be performing with Journey. The band has tried reaching him, but Perry won't do it.
Also, of the Hip Hop artists in the hall right now, only 2 actually performed, and 1 had a tribute. Tupac obviously can't perform, but will there be a tribute at least?
I think they will do a tribute to Tupac or have it like how NWA didn't perform last year. I also like the fact that Yes and Pearl Jam got in. I personally want The Black Crowes, Bad Company, and Emerson, Lake and Palmer to be inducted. There are so many bands that should be in but aren't.

“We’re all mad here. I’m mad. You’re mad.” - Lewis CarrollSo, it turns out Neil Young is sick, so inducting Pearl Jam will be....David Letterman.
Also, Steve Perry is showing up, but he's probably not going to sing.
Un-Fun fact: There are only 4 living members of the original inductees: Little Richard, Fats Domino, Don Everly, and Jerry Lee Lewis.
In odd news, The Misfits are getting recognition by the museum portion. Could that lead to something?
The shirt Jeff Ament wore during Pearl Jam's performance lists a lot of great bands neglected by the Hall. A lot of them leave me wondering "why the hell aren't they in already?". But to be fair, a few of them aren't eligible yet (and Raymond Pettibon isn't even a musician, wtf?)
Also just noticed Tom Waits is on there, and he's already inducted.

Rock Hall followers are making their predictions right now.
Radiohead are this years' Pearl Jam. Rage Against The Machine has a good chance, as Tom Morello is on the nominating committee. He and Dave Grohl may try to get Soundgarden in thanks to Chris' death.
Janet Jackson has a chance, especially after the movement for her to get inducted made an impact, despite failing. I wonder if they've paid attention to the "Induct These Women" series by Inspirer. (The Rock Hall is a major sausagefest)
Thanks to a documentary on Native Americans in Rock, a successful album reissue, and Miley Cyrus, Link Wray is getting some attention as a common prediction. Is it too late for The Moody Blues? Justin Hayward my think so, but that doesn't mean it's true!
Nine Inch Nails and The Cars have both done well in fan polls before, and Trent's connection to Cleveland gives the former a boost. And there's probably going to be another hip-hop act, but who could fill that role this year?

Not sure about hip-hop. Is Eminem available yet? Radiohead should get in, along with Soundgarden. I'd like to see Emerson, Lake, and Palmer get in seeing as Palmer's the only one left. Also The Black Crowes and Rory Gallagher. I think they're both really underrated.
“We’re all mad here. I’m mad. You’re mad.” - Lewis CarrollHe's not old enough yet. (The earliest is 25 years after the first known recording under the name) Dr. Dre solo is old enough this year, and Rolling Stone put him on their Immortals list, so he has a chance. Then again, Gram Parsons, Lee "Sratch" Perry and Roxy Music were also on the list, and they still aren't in, and only Parsons has been nominated of the three.
I figure Eminem will get in soon then. I don't know that many hip hop musicians, but I know a lot of rock bands have been snubbed and probably will be again.
“We’re all mad here. I’m mad. You’re mad.” - Lewis CarrollI can't believe I forgot him, but LL Cool J is getting some buzz thanks to his Kennedy Center honors. He's been nominated before, too. He could be the rap act.
Here's the list of 2018 nominees:
Bon Jovi
Kate Bush
The Cars
Depeche Mode
Dire Straits
Eurythmics
J. Geils Band
Judas Priest
LL Cool J
The MC 5
The Meters
The Moody Blues
Radiohead
Rage Against The Machine
Rufus Featuring Chaka Khan
Nina Simone
Sister Rosetta Tharpe
Link Wray
The Zombies
Pretty stacked list, hopefully the Cars and Judas Priest finally get in.

Bon Jovi is going to get in because they are going to win the fan vote. It's a tradition.
It looks like it isn't too late for the Moody Blues after all. Nearly everyone called Link Wray, LL Cool J, and Radiohead, and most people called The Cars and Rage Against the Machine. All I know is that I hope we can get more than 5 artists in this year as proper inductees. (Sister Rosetta Tharpe should get in as an Early Influence, though.)
Can't believe it took this long just for Sister Rosetta Tharpe just to get nominated. She should definitely get in, even if it's just as an Early Influence.
Like to see Radiohead, Bon Jovi, Dire Straits, The Cars, Link Wray, Judas Priest, Kate Bush and Rage Against the Machine to get in. Surprised Soundgarden isn't there. I thought they'd get in because Cornell died.
“We’re all mad here. I’m mad. You’re mad.” - Lewis CarrollYes, the trio of Questlove, Tom Morello, and Dave Grohl didn't really have as big of an impact on the nominations as we thought they would. People where predicting that we might see Boston and Fugazi on the same ballot, but here there's no big shockers.
Also, Dave Davies (The Kinks) sais his picks are The Cars, RATM, Radiohead, MC 5, and Nina Simone.

The fan poll is over and Bon Jovi won, so it looks like they will be getting in.
Radiohead are refusing to show up regardless of if they get in or not, which hasn't happened since Sex Pistols in 2006.
The class has been announced:
Bon Jovi
Dire Straits
The Cars
Moody Blues
Nina Simone
And Sister Rosetta Tharpe as an Early Influence.
Surprised at no Radiohead, but given their reaction, it's fitting that they don't get in.
Newest crop of nominees:
Def Leppard
Devo
Janet Jackson
John Prine
Kraftwerk
LL Cool J
Radiohead
Rage Against The Machine
Roxy Music
Rufus featuring Chaka Khan
Stevie Nicks
The Cure
The Zombies
Todd Rundgren
Newest Crop of Inductees! There's 7!
The Cure
Def Leppard
Janet Jackson
Stevie Nicks
Radiohead
Roxy Music
The Zombies

I know that some people find the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (R&R HoF) just as irrelevant as the Grammys. But I still find it an interesting subject to discuss.
The inductees of Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 2017 are:
