I’m convinced that the biggest scam in FGO (besides the gacha of course) is the fact that grailing past 90 only adds two to the max level instead of five like every other prior instance of grailing. It’s such a rip off. I never grail a 5-Star unless I’m grailing them to 100 because the fact that I can’t grail them to level 95 feels unnatural to me.

^^ For me, the fact that a level 100 SR is only as strong as an SSR at 90 means I'm automatically disinclined to take anything but SSRs past 90. Which isn't really what you were saying but related to that is just that I don't like taking other characters even as far as to 90 since I feel like they don't get as much out of it.

Except Chen Gong, who I took to 100 in JP before quitting. Killing your own Servants is just too funny.

I'm going to have to disagree with both of you.

The biggest scam outside the gacha is trying to get a servant to level 120. Let's count the ways.

• Assuming that the servant is already level 100, you still then need ten more grails, because said grails keep only giving two levels at a time
• but it's not just the grails you need. Servant coins are also required. How many? 30 'per grail'. So a total of 300. So good luck if you haven't rolled enough of an SR or SSR, or even worse, if they were a welfare that didn't have coins available for them previously
• and even assuming you've got the grails AND the coins, guess what? Each level, from 101 to 120, costs as much experience as it took to get that servant from level 1 to level 100. In other words, over 4,000 5* matching or all class EXP is necessary

Getting servants to 120 is the absolute pinnacle of bullshit. And I say this as a person that's done it twice and plans to do it twice more.

I've grailed a handful of Servants to 100; I have no intention of going beyond that. It seems like too much effort for too little reward.

I mean, when I stopped playing, I don't think level 120 was even a thing yet, so I can't comment on that. Or maybe it was, I don't know, I had Castoria but I don't think LB6 was out yet. Honestly I have no idea who I would want to grail at this point. For the foreseeable future I doubt I'll have the exp to waste.

Got Da Vinci, but it took too many quartz for me to feel comfortable going for NP2, not when I know there's a Castoria banner coming along with Lady Avalon, Kama and Berserker Ibuki Douji coming, prioritized in that order.

Servant Coins/Append Skills/level 120 cap were introduced for the 6th anniversary in JP. I think NA got them earlier.

Leveling to 120 sucks not only because the amount of EXP required but also the fact that you need at least NP 3 if you want to reach it without needing the servant to hit bond 15 and/or you used the coins on their 2nd append skill. And this is just for SS Rs. It's even worse for S Rs.

It's hilarious that this is really what Morgan been doing during the Sea Monsters Crisis.

I find the grievances understandable, but the devs did state that 120 is purely for the sake of dedication and long term gameplay.

We only have ourselves to blame if we regretted committing to the grind. Speaking of which….Rider Ushi will be my 5th 120 unit once the event story is done.

I'm just annoyed that NP 5 isn't enough dedication for S Rs and above apparently. (And also cause I wasted my coins on appends back when it was implemented because the EXP is plain ridiculous)

I hate that you need bond 15 to both max level and unlock all appends for a welfare, so you also need to spend bond grails (and if you don't have enough free ones, also RPs) and ungodly amount of time on top of everything else. Though, I suppose, it still beats rolling 10+ copies of an SR...

Me with my Tama Cat completely maxed out on everything you could possibly upgrade, Bond 15 included, but still two appends short of completion because you have to roll 5000 copies of SR's I guess.

I have a few handful SS Rs at 100 because if I do, then I feel obligated to max bond them, and that'll take time. I only bring my S Rs up to 90 (only one I have at 100 is Chiron). I don't really try to bring anyone higher because just raising S.Ibuki to 106 was hard enough, and I refuse to put myself through that again.

I wasn't aware an SR could only be as powerful as an level 90 SSR at 100. I thought grailing them to 90 would be enough. You learn something new, I guess. Does that mean a silver can only be a level 80 SR if you grail them to level 100?

I was half asleep for most of the non Anning sections but todays update woke me up, mostly in anger at being forced to fight Voyager and Nemo for the sake of the Super Bunyan for some fucking reason. How dare you leave my son in debt, I’ll kill you

iirc yes but I don't feel like checking to make sure. You can check individual Servants here and see that, roughly speaking, lower rarity Servants simply get less benefit from more levels than higher rarity ones do and have to go to 100 to be comparable to the next tier. I haven't the faintest idea if this persists past 100.

^ Before I quit JP I had leveled every single Servant I had to their max non Grail level and had like thousand of exp in storage and stuffing up the mailbox for whenever I rolled something new.

Event story done, and it turns out I was incorrect about my earlier assessment. Bunyan was trying to get herself killed, but goading her workers into disliking her was neither intentional nor part the plan. No one ever calls her out on it in the finale either, not even Mary Anning. Bunyan's employee treatment reminiscent of a Japanese black company is apparently just supposed to be funny... and it really, really isn't.

Wow this event could have been an email. Anning was so well written that it's actually baffling that Super Bunyan was so shit. Like I was disappointed that she didn't get killed off at the end too, both the attempts at humour and sentimentality were godawful and that surprise final boss was a wet fart. Riyo should just stick to art.

I do think that Mike Fink was meant to be more of a joke than an actual serious antagonist. Like he tries to make himself to be the bigger deal than anyone else, but instantly deflated. I think the real question is for him just showing up like that. Dunno, maybe instead of movies, the story beats could have been about different American folk heroes since Super Bunyan is meant to be a fusion of them, with one of them deciding to barge in due to Bunyan never having been a real person.
