I think Sequel Hook might be a better fit, since a sequel to the game was recently announced for the Nintendo Switch.
Saw it over the weekend, thought it was super cute. Lost my shit at Pikachu making puppy dog faces, getting his chin scratched, and the herd of bulbasaurs. This should get all the fx awards. My boyfriend is a lifelong Pokémon fan; he said it was everything he wanted and cried for most of the last 20 minutes
They actually admitted that they only made the sequel because of the film's closed ending.
Totodile and even Feraligatr was in the movie!! 100/10, best movie of the year!
Now serious, I can see the problems people had with the movie. Very basic plot, really slow pacing before Pikachu enters the fry, wich by the the ball gets rolling good. And some jokes really needed to know about the franchise, so it doesn't land with everyone.
Yet loved it. Great world building, great characters. Really loved Lucy, love how she wants to make her job more theatrical than it is Kathyn really nailed her energy, can totally see her being a character from the games. Justice and Reynold where great too.
I was surprised with Charizard, I didn't like his design from the trailers, but that they where able to make him adorable regardless when Gyarados enters the movie, totally sold me that they know what they're doing with this franchise.
Really hyped for what next.

Yeah, I really enjoyed how it set up the world too, and how everyone actually cares for their Pokemon (even if in some areas they put them into underground Pokemon battles).
The way they integrated Pokemon in was really good too, like how the DJ at the battles didn't have speakers, there was just a squad of Loudred channeling the sound.
That the Loudred switched to dubstep when they went berserk was pretty funny to me.
So, wanna know what was the biggest surprise in the movie for me? Ryan Reynolds playing Tim's father.
... ok, hear me out.
The movie was being way to coy on showing him before the reveal, not even getting a glimpse of him in the accident scenes. And with how Hollywood usually tends to be a no-no with mixed race families, I was begining to fear that they would get a black actor to play Tim's father at the end, and where only using Ryan Reynolds as Pikachu's voice.
And then, BOOM! He's playing the father , just like that, no fuss, nothing. Playing it like it was perfectly normal.
Made me appreciate this movie more.

I really loved that too, and I even predicted early on that Ryan Reynold's casting would mean that this version of Tim would be mixed-race. I'm just glad they went with that.

Did you know on the IM Db the pokemon Lucario movie still has a higher rating than this?
As I just saw it, I can say that I agree. Wow, imagine what score that would have gotten on Rotten Tomatoes.
I can believe that. I think Lucario and the Mystery of Mew is a great story, even if you're not a Pokemon fan.
Jason has come back to kill for Mommy.Indeed. It's probably one of the best Pokemon movies alongside the Keldeo one.
Pokemon: Detective Pikachu has officially passed Lara Croft: Tomb Raider as the highest grossing video game film in the United States. Of course, adjusted for inflation Lara Croft would still be #1, and Detective Pikachu would be behind Mortal Kombat and Pokemon: The First Move. But it still is a milestone worth noting.
Detective Pikachu was just an advertisement for Dynamax.
Where there's life, there's hope.Because of the giant Torterra?
Considering that this movie has a closed ending, I imagine it will be an anthology.
If they decide to do a direct sequel, frankly I do not know how they will keep the interest.

I wonder if the "godlike" Pokemon from the games are literally mythical in this 'verse. Pretty silly for Howard to declare Mewtwo the "most powerful Pokemon" with statues of the Sinnoh Creation Trio behind him, otherwise...
Mythical or thought-to-be-mythical.
You fell victim to one of the classic blunders!@R Alexa: I was just about to say.I feel like this film introduced us to this concept in a stealthy way.
Visit my Tumblr! I may say things. The Bureau ProjectMaybe it's cause Mega Mewtwo has high base stat totals than Arceus XD Maybe the sequel will involve Ultra Necrozma.

SoundCloudYou know, in hindsight, an Eevee evolving to Flareon as we get exposition about how Evolution makes pokemon stronger HAD to be deliberate.
I like Flareon. It's fluffy. <3
The Protomen enhanced my life.I do too, it's my favorite Eeveelution.
But even I can admit it's not the best example of evolution making pokemon strong.
It raises its Charm stat. When Flareon is that floofy and adorable, people will hesitate to fight it.

In the game, they never did quite solve what happened to Tim's dad, so I guess it is appropriate.
Continue the bloodline, Fujimaru!
