The first four regions were explicitly based on Japanese islands.
Unova was based on New York, and Kalos was based on France, so those work with the multinational bit, I guess.
but HOW?Which is my point. Can you name an A-list Japanese actor/actress working in Hollywood? Doubtful.
I think the Japanese fanbase would beg to differ.
"The devil's got all the good gear. What's God got? The Inspiral Carpets and nuns. Fuck that." - Liam GallagherHow popular are Hollywood films in Japan?
Not as popular as they used to be.
I guess Japan still won't forgive Hollywood for inflicting Dragonball Evolution on the world, and that film's the prime reason Hollywood adaptations of Japanese fiction suck.
"The devil's got all the good gear. What's God got? The Inspiral Carpets and nuns. Fuck that." - Liam GallagherOh sweet baby Krishna, you had to remind me of that one.
I highly doubt it's because of that.
Most people in Japan probably never cared about Dragon Ball Evolution one way or another.
Let's face it, a Japanese live action Dragon Ball would have been likely just as sucky.
It's not exactly an easy thing to adapt to live-action.
Is it ever a good idea at all? The only people who seem to get it right is Disney, yet most of that is from their own prior work.
"The devil's got all the good gear. What's God got? The Inspiral Carpets and nuns. Fuck that." - Liam GallagherJapan made some pretty awesome Rurouni Kenshin movies, but that was a property that wasn't particularly hard to adapt.
Live-Action Pokemon. Red Flag already raised.
Is it more for the Anime or the Game?
It's Over Anakin, I have the high ground! As far as anime and manga properties go, Black Lagoon could make a neat movie,
There isn't a movie in production yet at all. Just studios bidding for rights.
If you want grimdark mon series, just adapt Narutaru.
Non Indicative UsernameProbably too dark and depressing for a blockbuster, too obscure for a horror franchise in these times of crisis for the genre, and too bothersome for little return to be worth chasing and buying the rights.
Battle Angel Alita might work too. I wonder if Cameron ever intends to carry out on it someday?
I dunno. There's been so many dark and gloomy films as of late that I do want to we a more Speed Racer-request type of movie adaptation for Pokemon.
I would pay to see George Takei play the part of Professor Oak. What would you guys think?
"The devil's got all the good gear. What's God got? The Inspiral Carpets and nuns. Fuck that." - Liam GallagherI could see that.
I wonder if the film will try to explain how Pokeballs work, why aren't they used on humans, how come PCs only teleport Pokemon, how Pokemon Centers heal mons...
90 minutes isn't enough for all of that.
Pokemon Origins had to rush like hell to cram the first generation into that amount of time.

Non Indicative UsernameTrue, but feature length film often run a half hour or more longer now.
Yeah. Instead of trying to depict how the Pokemon would look if it was designed by nature instead of cartoonists, I feel like the guy just tried to take each Pokemon as it looks now and give it realistic textures. While also adding his own twists for extra creepiness, like whatever the hell that thing coming out of Mewtwo's crotch is supposed to be.
It's like when people add freakish Uncanny Valley giant eyes to "Realistic" anime characters. It's more like a commentary on how unnatural cartoon designs are than an honest cartoon-to-reality translation.
Regarding the Film
I really liked that Pikachu linked a page or two ago, but I will add that I don't want to see Pokémon Speak in the movie. I think the animal noises from the game will sound better coming out of a realistically rendered animal.
My Tumblr. Currently liveblogging Haruhi Suzumiya and revisiting Danganronpa V3.That is also what they did in Origins. All of the mons there used animal cries.
I don't really like the Pokémon Speak much so i'd be happy with its absence.
I remember that was discussed in the Headscratchers section once. The scientists who invented the Pokeballs went through a lot of trial and error to make sure they only worked on Pokemon. Otherwise, kidnappers would be having a field day.
I smell magic in the air. Or maybe barbecue.
The Pokemon world doesn't feel that Japanese to me. It has more of a modern multinational vibe.
