Discuss the Paper Mario franchise here. (Searched the forums and only found super specific threads).

Let's not devolve into our fears of what Color Splash will turn into.

I have a crazy idea of what a potential Paper Mario game and plot could be.

I'm thinking of something between Thousand Year Door and Super Paper Mario; you don't just control Mario, you can control Peach and Luigi, as well as Toad (or perhaps Toadsworth). Bowser returns as a villain, and partners based on Mario franchise creatures return. This time though, you can switch between dimensions. Not the Super Paper Mario kind, mind you, but between two parallel universes (a step down from the multiverse from SPM, but bear with me). The two dimensions are the Mushroom Kingdom and...

Subcon. Yes. Super Mario Bros 2 is making a comeback, and features Wart as part of the Big Bad Ensemble with Bowser.

The Koopa Troop and enemies from the Mushroom Kingdom are (mostly) vulnerable to jump attacks like always, but the Subcon forces under Wart will be resistant to them and be more vulnerable to the new attack, grabbing. Grabs can be used to summon veggies at enemies, and at later tiers, can be used to toss enemies at enemies or bombs at enemies.

[up] [up] It won't be much of a thread if we can't discuss the newest game. tongue

Well, it was the reason why YMMV on that page was locked. I imagine something similar happened to the Paper Mario thread, if it ever was a thing to begin with.

Nah, everyone uses the General Mario Thread for everything.

In fact, Paper Mario is kind of dominating the discussion lately.

I'm giving Color Splash the benefit of the doubt. I'm probably the very few who likes Sticker Star.

[up]I liked Sticker Star too. Sure, The Thousand Year Door is still my favorite Paper Mario game and I would love to see another game like it, but I still enjoyed playing Sticker Star and do not regret my purchase.

I enjoyed Sticker Star enough to play it to completion. Problem is, I enjoyed it solely for its aesthetic values like its quirky humor and music rather than any sort of well-designed gameplay, which is pretty much the opposite of what Intelligent Systems was going for.

I absolutely adored the Queen of Darkness in Thousand Year Door, I was surprised ANY Mario game would get that dark and have a Eldritch creature from the darkness and oblivion be a final boss in a Mario game. It pushed the game a few steps up in my eyes. Something new and out of the box ordinary than the run of the mill 'Bowser did it again' scenario.

In all honesty, I don't expect the most engaging or complex stories from Mario, I just want variety in Mario stories than "Bowser kidnapped the princess." And Thousand Year Door, and Super Paper Mario, did have some variety in their stories. I don't want Bowser to be permanently dead, I just want him to take a break. Hell, give him a queen Bowser if you must.

Hello. As an elementary school student, I discovered Super Paper Mario and loved its story. I may have had a crush on Count Bleck. But as I understood how flawed he really was, I began to wonder why I liked him so much, though I don't hate him as much as I hate Akio from Revolutionary Girl Utena. What do you think about the count?

He's probably the most interesting villain in the series so far. I actually think he has a pretty good design, despite hating the game's wonky cubist art style. (I also like Nastasia's.) Wouldn't want to see him again, though—his story got a pretty great denouement.

Also, cripes, you're young!

Count Bleck's got a dapper hat and outfit. But i always felt his attempt at erasing existence because he lost his love, way out of proportion.

~Thrice Charming, he was not only the first favorite as long as I remember, but also the first Anti-Villain I have ever seen. No matter how disillusioned I have become with him for various reasons, his gentility still appeals to me so much that it surprised me that my mother liked the rough O'Chunks more—not that I dislike O'Chunks. As for his design, when I came across the game poster not long ago, I was a little embarassed to realize that I consider his outfit lovely. As for my age, I would like to make it clear that I'm 16-year-old now.

~Red Hunter 543, I agree that what he did was Disproportionate Retribution. That was one of the reasons why a passing acquaintance of mine on Twitter once hated him with so much passion that it surprised me and my mother.

It's kind of suggested that he got changed by reading the Dark Prognosticus. That was pretty much how I made sense of his character.

Well he was transformed physically, so why not mentally? Plus he does seem to realize what he did was really out of proportion, which is why he's popular.

I'll be honest here: Bowser kidnapping Peach has gotten really stale for me. This is coming from someone born in 1996 who played the GBA release of Super Mario Bros. 1 as well, so Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door and Super Paper Mario were breaths of fresh air to me even if those were only for those two games...

Bowser is always a great villain, he's entertaining, and genuinely threatening. I'm fine with Bowser being the main villain of the RP Gs lately.

I prefer it when it plays out like Lefend of the Seven Stars or Super Paper Mario, where Bowser kidnapping Peach is effectively the prologue to the real story.
