Image Suggestion Thread (New Crowner Apr 26 2024):

This thread is dedicated to image suggestions for pages without pics (including those pulled by Image Pickin'). Guidelines:

1. Please read How to Pick a Good Image and Just a Face and a Caption before suggesting an image. Additionally, make sure to source the image in your post.
2. If you have multiple suggestions you'd like to field for a single page, that can merit its own thread. Otherwise, use this thread.
3. It is recommended that you upload your suggestions as you would like them to be formatted on the page.
4. A crowner will be generated with suggestions which will be voted on as normal:
   • The crowners will generally run 12-15 items at any given time and may go as high as 20 if there's a backlog of suggestions, so please do not add items to a crowner once it's running.
   • After 3 days, any options with a net vote count of ≥10 can be put on their respective pages. After 5 days, this can apply to options with a net vote count of ≥7. Anything below that will need to go the full 7 days.
   • After 7 days, generally the unprocessed options that have a positive vote count (2:1) can go up on their respective pages. ^{Old thread rule, no longer enforced}  If, however, the overall vote count is very low or the ratio is less than 2:1, those options will need to be spun to their own threads. Options that are at a 0 or negative vote count are also spun to their own threads at this point, but if an option has a significant negative vote count (say, ≤ -4) it can go to its own thread after 3-4 days.
5. Suggestions will generally be processed and added to crowners in the order they come into the thread.

I know we just had a thread for it recently, but I think I may have a solid pic for Canon Immigrant: General Grievous from Star Wars.

Star Wars is kind of immune to JAFAAC, so we can get away with it.

^ Darn it. I think it actually fits better on Hostage Video than that index, but it looks like we'll need a thread either way.

You've got roaming bands of armed, aggressive, tyrannical plumbers coming to your door, saying "Use our service, or else!"

I've gone ahead and put the pic up on Secret Underground Passage and tagged it, but it needs to be potholed.

As soon as some active threads are cleared out (should be in the next day or two), I'll move the threads for Standard Bleeding Spots and Rich Suitor, Poor Suitor back over so we can discuss other options.

@2: I agree with rodney and I'm pretty sure that show wasn't an adaptation.

Comments/questions:

1. We probably want an indication that users do have alternative suggestions and/or are willing to discuss Standard Bleeding Spots and Rich Suitor, Poor Suitor individually. Otherwise these can be dropped altogether.
2. How should a user flag if he wants to present an alternative for any of the listed entries? That should probably prompt us to move this item into general discussion by unlocking the original request. Sounds like a mod nightmare.
3. Will caption discussion for winners be handled via the General Caption Repair Thread?

1. I'd rather give those pages a chance to find something than drop the discussions altogether...the people that downvoted them might want to say whether or not they just didn't like the suggestions or don't want to pursue them at all. For me, I'm meh on the two SBS suggestions and don't care for the RSPS suggestion because the "rich suitor" part isn't clear enough.

2. Good question...might be worth it to post them in this thread so they can be added to the crowner. The crowner should probably work on a 7 or 10 page limit rather than a 10 item limit, with a possible hard limit on the # of suggestions to keep it from getting too massive.

3. Yes, the Caption Repair thread would be the place to address captions for these new pics.

The downside of not having individual live threads is that no one visiting the source pages will know that there is a crowner running for images. Calls are down to what appears to be 9 regulars of this board.

That said, I haven't seen much input coming from "visitors" in the old system anyway. It just becomes more apparent now how closed our circle really is. Getting 8 positive votes out of 9 users is rather unlikely. For this thread to thrive, we might want to make it more public around the site.

We already only get like 15 votes at most for the majority of threads, but the lowered visibility is definitely an issue.

As long as I'm here, I not sure about the Hostage Video suggestion. There's definitely context to show that it's meant to be a video with being obvious, but I'm concerned about whether or not it's enough context.

Okay, I've put up the suggestion for Catching Some Z's and reopened the threads for Standard Bleeding Spots and Model Planning.

For Rich Suitor, Poor Suitor, it seems that two pics with the separate suitors with Kidman's character would be better.

The one advantage this crowner thread has over individual threads is that it allows for batch voting on a number of suggestions. This feature is targeting the occasional visitor to IP. Regulars would be voting on individual threads anyway. However, it seems to me there are no occasional visitor around, so unless we get more people in to make use of this feature, it's wasted on us.

The suggestion for Precious Photo is pretty good, but I think adding a bit more context might help. Thoughts?

EDIT: I put up the pic on Deadly Delivery since the votes have sat steady for a few days.

That's much better. Other than being crumpled and weathered, the picture by itself is almost JAFAAC.

Regarding General Grievous, he's not a Canon Immigrant; he was always intended to be the villain of Revenge of the Sith. His appearance in Star Wars: Clone Wars was more of a preview.

Regarding this thread: As a visitor myself (albeit one who's gotten a bit addicted to checking the other threads while I wait for my suggestion to work its way through the backlog), I can see the pros and cons. I like that it could speed up the approvals of suggestions, but you're right; discoverability is greatly reduced. I only found IP through the link at the top of a page. If batch voting is most useful for occasional visitors, and the only way you get visitors is through links from pages, there doesn't seem to be much point.

Looks like this crowner is nearing completion. Hostage Video presumably needs its own thread, so that leaves only Top God.

Inexplicably Preserved Dungeon Meat doesn't have a picture. The infamous Castlevania Wall Chicken◊ seems like a good image for that.

Eh-oh...we got a problem. The pic that was suggested for Top God is currently being used on Classical Mythology.

^ Fun fact: Those two links were sitting there side by side for a week and nobody noticed.

The crowner needs updating. Let's have at least one more round.
