I think Hart is deliberately trying for a more dramatic role.

I imagine Handsome Jack would be saved for the sequel. (And if they don't cast Ryan Reynolds, Robert Downey Jr., or Glenn Howerton, the hell are they doing?)

What about Nathan Fillion, considering that he apparently inspired the character of Jack?

He's about the right age too.

I actually like that these Vault Hunters are all seasoned professionals. Sort of like how changing the ages of Isaac Clarke and company in Dead Space didn't hurt the narrative the slightest.

Buzz on Reddit's always bad, the environment breeds toxicity.

The poster actually... looks good? I don't know about the cast (the characters, not the actors) but it resembles the actual games.

Video game adaptations like Mario and Sonic and Mortal Kombat have set the bar higher, but not high enough that having the characters look like they're supposed to isn't impressive.

Borderlands 1 had a barebones plot so I can understand adding Tiny Tina into the mix, and probably aving Handsome Jack for a potential sequel. 1 had the Atlas Corporation and an evil Siren as the villains but they were underutilized.

I can't believe Borderlands has a movie actually in production. I grew up in the 2000's where every game from Bioshock to God of War was supposed to get a live-action film and never did.

EDIT:

Tina makes sense, she's a loud and fun fan favorite, and has a sad backstory, plus she's a kid so you want her to be there to show a different angle of Pandora. Krieg is the lovable maniac who is hilarious and quoted by everyone, plus you can shift his love of Maya to Lilith, Lilith can be an amalgam of herself and Maya, Roland is there to be the leader/stoic, and Tannis moves the plot forward. Did I forget anyone... oh, right. Claptrap. Well, you can't have Borderlands without him. Nevermind what I said, this cast makes sense to me.

Mordecai, Brick, and most of the second Vault Hunter group minus Maya and Zero felt tertiary anyway, amusing personality quirks aside. For a tighter film narrative, I think they did a good job.

...Tannis looks a lot older than the games and if I recognize that actor, I've seen her in more serious roles. It's going to be interesting to see how batsh-t she is here.

I remember a quote I saw from a review of Guardians of the Galaxy once. "Actors like to have fun, too." It was in reference to Glenn Close, usually thought of as more of a 'serious' actress, appearing in that movie. (Then again, she also played Cruella de Ville, so it really wasn't THAT surprising she likes to have fun)

Basically, typecasting is dumb, actor's should have the chance to play any role as long as they can bring to the table what's required, and thus I see no reason to complain about casting unless the movie itself turns out to have the character wrong.

It looks... fine. Roland kicking Claptrap into a hole feels accurate to the humor of the games. Jack Black's Claptrap voice is good, though nobody can quite do Claptrap like the original guy. The trailer makes this feel like a lost Guardians of the Galaxy movie, which will probably not be a fair comparison.

Oh cool, Lilith still seems to have her Siren powers. Was worried about that since her tattoos aren't visible.

Seems pretty much in line with the games. Should be fine.

Looks good.

Colors and atmosphere are right, somewhat campy music, lots of gunplay and bandit-slaying, silly...

I don't think its unfair to compare this movie to Guardians of the Galaxy in terms of feel. But I do worry that it means people aren't gonna give it its fair chance.

I'm assuming Lilith does have her tattoos on her arm and they're just covered by her jacket, but there'll be some kind of reveal in the movie. Makes sense to me, it can be dangerous for the universe to know you're a Siren.

It helps that for the most part the cast are all fairly visible right now.

Curtis recently got an Oscar and is already in the lead for the next Emmys/Golden Globes.

Hart has been a crowd favorite for a while.

Blanchett is one of the best modern examples of someone who is a master at "one for them, one for me."

Jack Black...same thing as Hart, is pretty much always topical.

Greenblatt was in 2023's biggest movie and then proved she can pivot to genre stuff as well.

About the only "small name" is Munteanu, but he's good at this sort of action role.

I like the aesthetics of the games but never really got into them on a gameplay level. This looks fun enough. Wonder if it's PG-13 or R.

Considerung the over the top violence in the games I would think closer to R. That's usually reserved for dropping f bombs more than once and showing female nudity, I think.

[up][up]The days of studios enforcing a movie to be PG-13 for max profit seems to be dying down, given the many successes of big-budget, violent movies recently. Still, it might be a big factor for some fans.

Eh I love Borderlands but I think its so eclectic and chaotic, you could make a PG-13 version work. You don't want the gore to be as excessive when you've got photorealism going on.

Like if this is as violent and crude as Twisted Metal I think it'll be fine.
