Hello, beautiful tropers! And welcome to the Lost In Adaptation thread, where we discuss Lost in Adaptation, where The Dom compares books to their movie adaptations and see how the two compares. The latest of which is Who Framed/Censored Roger Rabbit.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2At-59aUSpw

(dammit embedding why won't you work)

Am I the only one somewhat disappointed that the Dom didn't make the joke that Who Framed Roger Rabbit can't even be callled In Name Only, considering it has a different title from the book? [lol]

I'm honestly not surprised at hearing the Dom saying the book was better though. I haven't read the book myself, but from what I heard most consider the movie better.

Ooh, this is a series that actually looks like it might be interesting. I'll have to check it out later.

(And thank you for actually explaining what this show is in the OP instead of just posting, "This is a show! Let's talk about it yeah?")

Howl's Moving Castle

I personally would like to see a longer video detailing all the differences between the film and book, though I understand that would be a lot of work for the Dom, especially since others have already done so.

Do you think he would do more popular books like Harry Potter or The Hunger Games?

[up] Sure, if he got to $500/1,000 per video on his Patreon.

Just a person. He/him.

[up][up] He did say that he isn't going to do Harry Potter, as he thinks that everything has been said about the books, so he wouldn't be able to add anything. And the Hunger Games was both one of the vote options for the next Lost in Adaptation (losing to Howl's Moving Castle) and on his list of future Lost in Adaptation episodes.

Thank you for this information. A lot of the titles I've never heard of but I'm glad to see that he'll do The Hunger Games, Chronicles Of Narnia, The Giver, and Holes. I think Harry Potter being his inspiration is reason that he should do it.

Lexicon, You may be getting your wish for Harry Potter.

Unsurprisingly, it looks like Harry is in the lead.

I was not expecting the Dom to cover Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter, but I do remember the movie being wonderfully silly as the Dom put it. I do look forward to his November Nanos.

Also, I thought I had already posted the Goldfinger episode, but apparently not.

Huh… I'm surprised this thread is as dead as it is. Also, since this thread was created The Dom changed his name to a less… risqué one. tongue

Anyway, this month Dominic covers Minority Report.

…And my god I want to see a book-accurate adaptation someday.

Though I did enjoy the film a lot back then. The plot was also pretty relevant with the concept of "preventive war" being thrown around at the time…

Honestly, I am split on that issue. Some of the best movies flat out ignored the books they were based on.

Last weeks episode was John Carpenter's The Thing.

And because he's been feeling a bit sick, he's skipping a Lost in Adaptation episode this week in favour of a book review; The Cobra Trilogy by Timothy Zahn.

And this week is part one of his three part The Three Musketeers review, with this week's part talking about the book.

And Part 2, where he looks at the various adaptations that have been made over the past 100 years.

I remember watching the Disney-produced version with my sister and cousins and thinking "Damn, the King looks really young in this movie." It was definitely fun watching Tim Curry play Tim Curry in a fabulous red robe.

Gaaah, I have to catch up, but I don't have the time to watch all these 30-40 minute episodes. >__<

I haven't watched the video but I wonder they also include other Musketeers adaptations like the 90s anime, the TV movie featuring d'Artagnan's daughter, a European cartoon where the protagonist was the 4th member IIRC and.....a genderbend hentai manga.

He only includes the 4 that were most upvoted by his patreons (Along with the 5th which is the one that is getting its own episode)

So no he doesn't include those.

Most of them he'd not bother anyway since they are not adaptations. The one "with D'Artagnan's daughter" is by definition, not an adaptation of the story.

That 90s Disney movie looks so painfully cliché.

[up] Also, you can tell the guy who directed the 70s version would later direct Superman III based on the lame attempts at comedy.
