More about Jared Fogle after Subway does an "extensive review" of customer complaints. Emphasis mine, vitriol after the quote.

Subway said it has concluded an "extensive review" of over a million customer comments and other documents and found one "serious" complaint about its former pitchman Jared Fogle. In a statement released Friday, Subway said the complaint submitted to its website in 2011 expressed "concerns" about Fogle. It said the complaint was serious but that "there was nothing that implied anything about sexual behavior or criminal activity."

Fogle last month agreed to plead guilty to child pornography charges and to crossing state lines to pay for sex with minors. He also agreed to pay $1.4 million to 14 of his victims with each receiving $100,000. Failure to do so could result in Fogle having to serve between five and 12-1/2 years in prison.

In the statement, Subway also said it regretted that the comment "was not properly escalated or acted upon" when it was first received. "Since 2011, the company has strengthened its processes for reviewing and escalating customer comments, complaints and inquiries," Subway said.

The company noted that it had immediately suspended its relationship with Fogle when it learned of the criminal investigation against him. Subway also noted that its investigation "found no further evidence" that it had received any other complaints against Fogle.

Now I'm letting my anger out. A fine and that's all the punishment he's going to get? What. The. FUCK. He was collecting and sharing child porn. He was travelling across the country to have sex with trafficked middle-school age girls. And the only way he's going to see the inside of a prison is if he for some reason doesn't cough up a little bit of money.

[up] And this is why I occasionally hate my country's justice system. Granted, shit will get done the right way; but this is where one of times when they drop the ball. He should have been incarcerated on the spot rather than being slapped on the wrist like this.

Wait, what? I thought he had to pay and that he was going to prison for like 8 years? Did the judge suddenly get lenient with him?

Wikipedia has a (sourced) claim that he will spend between 5-12 years in prison. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jared_Fogle#Criminal_investigation_and_plea_agreement But that might be out of date.

Hmm. Violent murders seem to be spreading more and more in Costa Rica. With gang leaders of three major bands captured and in prison, the middle powers among them have taken to disputes, increasing the rates of homicides due to revenge from up to 215% from one year to another in the last 5 years...

Most of the deaths have to do with people involved in the business: They and their associates hwo threathen the power of the bands are killed. On occasion, it is their families (Brothers. Sons, mostly) to get the point across and to tell them to back off

Prison does not seem to do much.

While you're in the middle of drunk driving is probably not the best time to start livestreaming to your friends. Emphasis mine.

She is lost, exasperated, and — by her own admission — driving very drunk. The young woman allegedly broadcast her illegal escapade over the weekend on Periscope, an app that allows users to live stream from their phones. In the shaky video, she says she's drunk and doesn't know where she is going. She also says she thinks she's driving on a flat tire. "Where am I right now, people?" the woman asks, over the sound of music playing in her car. "I have to go home."

Police in Lakeland, Florida, have identified the driver as 23-year-old Whitney Marie Beall. She was arrested and faces a charge of driving under the influence. Her attorney reportedly released a statement saying that Beall would not be giving any interviews any time soon. "She is a young professional with a bright future. When her court date is set, I will be entering a plea on her behalf of not guilty," attorney Lee Cohen said in a statement reported by CNN affiliate WFLA. "I'll be investigating the case and that starts now. I am waiting to see all the evidence, and I will take a look at it," Cohen said.

Police began getting calls about Beall on Saturday from people who saw the live stream and were concerned. "She was out of it. And it's obvious from watching that livestreaming video how bad she was," Lakeland police Sgt. Gary Gross told CNN affiliate Bay News 9.

Officers found Beall, who, in fact, was driving on a flat tire, police said in a statement. Just as a traffic stop was started, her car hit the curb. According to police, Beall's speech was slow and officers smelled alcohol. She also allegedly appeared to be disoriented. Beall was arrested after she refused a breathalyzer and failed field sobriety tests.

"The streaming Periscope video highlights the dangers of driving while intoxicated through the eyes of a drunk and irresponsible young adult," said police. "The Lakeland Police Department is extremely thankful that this did not result in an accident and no one was injured as a result of her poor decision."

Now, we've seen cases of people arrested after taking photos of themselves while robbing someone's house, or on the stolen cell phone or laptop. But I am glad that the rise of streaming video has now enabled random people on You Tube to watch the crimes as dumb criminals are livestreaming them, the better to summon the cops. waii

It's very unusual for Sweden, as well. Here in Finland we had a couple of school shootings relatively recently (as in, the last 10 years) and Norway, of course, had the mass shooting at Utoya, against a political youth group. Sweden hasn't had anything like that for a long time - I think this is their second attack in any school in the past 20 years or something.

And of course it's totally bizarre.

For the US sword swinging loonies and criminals is not that weird. Swords as weapons of crime in the US oddly frequently involve a Katana style sword.

So, apparently there was a Serial Killer operating in Ontario. Multiple police forces have completed an investigation and arrested and charged a former nurse with 8 counts of homicide. The victims were all patients in nursing homes where the suspect used to work. The cause of death in seven of the cases was drug overdoses.

Depending on regulations present, they may be held accountable for the clean up/costs. And if negligence is found that could (key word) result in charges.

Australian burglar shot in bottom with bow and arrow

A burglar in Australia was shot in the buttocks with a bow and arrow after being confronted by an angry homeowner.

The intruder stole cash, car keys and other property from the house in Sydney on Sunday afternoon.

The homeowner, a 68-year-old man, used a compound bow to challenge the thief as he tried to steal a car.

The robber fled the vehicle and jumped a fence but was shot in the backside as he ran to a parked getaway car.

He managed to use the vehicle to escape. It was not immediately clear from reports how serious his injuries were.

Police forensic officers will examine the scene at Wattle Grove, in the city's southwest.

The bow and arrow were seized as evidence.

Australian laws do not always favour the homeowner when an intruder is injured or killed, taking into account whether a person acted in self-defence or used "excessive force".

Compound bows are not banned in New South Wales and do not require a licence or permit.

Sounds like the howeowner might be in a bit of trouble here; self defense laws in the Commonwealth generally don't extend to retreating crooks.

Yeah that sounds similar to the UK case of a guy getting done for murder because he shot a fleeing burglar in the back.

Dylann Roof has been sentenced to death for the Charleston church shooting.

It's sad, but it's not hard to say he deserves it.

So, there was a pretty extreme arson spree in rural Newfoundland this morning. A man, who is now in custody, torched the local school, townhall, and the area's RCMP detachment. The later might be salvageable, but the other two are probably write offs. The townhall also contained a local museum, which was gutted and its contents obviously can't be replaced.

So this asshole basically tore the administrative and cultural heart out of the community. I'm thinking some sort of grudge was at play here, this is too extreme to be an impulsive act of vandalism.

How does Dylan Roof impact the Canadian economy?

I wouldn't be surprised if Roof pulls a Timothy Mc Veigh and waives all his appeals, essentially committing suicide by state.
