Post-Götterdämmerung

Götterdämmerung has already happened as prophesied (around the time of the Little Ice Age aka Fimbulwinter) and left the overworld of the gods a war-torn wasteland. Few could survive the widespread loss of the life-prolonging peach, apple, or other fruit trees; and entire pantheons of gods slowly but surely died of starvation. Of course there were likely survivors, possibly those that were in midgard at the time, as some people report contact with (certain) gods even today.
