Research in phonon scattering sheds more light
I actually thought at first you mistyped "photon" and was going to congratulate you on the pun.

As cool as the second one is, anyone else fear we'll accidently make a supergerm and kill everyone?

they've got plenty of other experiments that could do the same, so not much more than usual.

Magnetics could treat depression better than medication. The initial research is promising, but not yet in-depth and double-blind-tested to ensure actual effectiveness, but it certainly seems like it might be the way of the future. I know plenty of people who could benefit from it, who aren't on anti-depressants because of the horrible side effects. Furthermore, if we can treat depression this way, we might be able to treat other mental disorders as well.

Regarding the longevity thing, I'm always hesitant of gene therapy. I feel like we're going accidentally get rid of a "useless" gene that turns out to be extremely important. Kind of like playing Jenga when you can't see how the pieces connect to each other. The blood transfusion seems like it's more likely to work.

Ah, but these two genes cannot be turned off - very bad things could ensue; they are among the important cancer suppressors.

Researchers build acoustic tractor beam
And thanks to traditional sci-fi sound effects, the average person will probably expect an acoustic tractor beam to function in space.
