Are there any police departments trained in counter sniper tactics?

Scenario is a fanatical domestic terrorist cell (around 16 or so), who has serious beef with the police of the city they live in, to the point where they plan on murdering half of the department in a planned ambush.

All of them have military training (taught to them by a few who were actually combat vets. The idea in the ambush is that two (possibly more) of the terrorists snipers keep them pinned down with anti-material rifles , which they use on both personnel AND vehicles.

Wondering how they can overcome these odds.

Tons of variables here, ranging from the cops are completely and totally fucked, to the Feds are gonna come down hard. Either way, they aren’t going to get away.

How are they being lured? Police in every city in America are scattered even on the best of days, and the real time locations of their officers is a closely guarded secret not many have access too.

Oh. Well, the idea was that one of the cells leaders, call 911 and basically threaten to shoot up a school. “Bring everyone, or we start killing kids” and they simply wait for them to show up en masse, before they start killing on sight, from well defended positions, using modern US infantry tactics and suppression.

They aren’t trying to get away. This is full blown Blood Knight radicalization. The ONLY reason they’d retreat is to hunt down more LE Os in the city.

Oh. Yikes.

If they have no prior knowledge or even a HINT about this group before the attack happens, there’s not much to do, but wait till they run out of ammo. They aren’t winning.

one of the things that keeps most of the public in line is killing a cop, everyone knows that gets the attention of everyone and usually the criminal is fucked because of sheer numbers of people pissed off with the backing of the state.

However, the truth that most of the folks in Law Enforcement intrinsically know but don’t fucking dare to admit out loud, is, if you have a group or individual that does at least SOME planning and genuinely don’t care about their own lives…well. Yeah.

This applies to the Feds too. If your cells goal is to literally, and nothing more, to kill as many of them as possible they are *absolutely* going to succeed.

They don’t have to win. They just have to Make sure the police ‘’lose’’

And they will, 9/10.

Your average patrol officer doesn't have counter sniper training, outside of those who probably were former military veterans with combat duty.

Teams like SWAT probably do, since active shooting scenarios also involve snipers.

But trying to ambush LE Os will probably result in something like Waco.

Some of the larger better equipped and funded Police SWAT units can do counter-sniper.

Dont those Police SWAT teams normaly pull second place in the sniper competitions that are done on occasion too.

Behind the marines which just ended there program?

Either way to track back around, if its just the Local Leo's on site there kinda fucked, once SWAT shows up the tables are turned since they tend to have there own very competent snipers.

...

If they dont just blow them up with a suicide drone, which is what they have been doing with the last few sniper attacks in the US any way.

Works really well for dealing with snipers apperntly since they dont tend to be known for mobility, and a hand grenade that just falls out of the sky onto your head is really hard to counter with a rifle.

Depends on if they can find said sniper in time. If they’re following urban sniping tactics, they won’t be in an open window with their rifles sticking out like in the movies. They are in a corner in the back of a room.
