I'm putting the content of a cut page here for content preservation, as some of these seem like sound suggestions.

Just putting all the desired improvements for search in one place, so none get overlooked:
  1. Recognizability for all created Tropes.
  2. search for exact phrases (All internal spaces are dropped, now. "dog and pony" with quotes would find entries having that phrase)
  3. EXACT logic ("thou" being a search for entries having the exact word "thou", excluding entries that have "thousand")
  4. AND logic (dog and pony [no quotes] being a search for entries having both "dog" and "pony")
  5. NOT logic (dog not pony [no quotes] being a search for entries that do not have "pony" but do have "dog")
  6. Context in body hits: searching for "dog" might give you "Angry Guard Dog: '...isn't complete without an Angry Guard Dog. (An exception is made for...' " or something smarter. I was thinking of the Google-style hits.
  7. Separate the "related to..." search from textual search—it should only find pages that actually link to the page in question. For example "related to Brainwashed" oughtn't include every page that links to Brainwashed and Crazy. Meanwhile, it should include pages whose only link to [Trope Name] is in the form TropeName; simply looking for the string TropeName doesn't catch that.
  8. Tags as on YouTube and some blogs. Example: Nietzsche Wannabe —> tags: nihilist, nihilism, believe in nothing, etc. Mary Sue —> Mary Sue, Gary Stu, Marty Stus, perfect characters, too perfect, flawless, magic, boring.

One thing worth noting is that that refers to a full-text search that we don't have anymore.

Bumping to see if any of this is feasible or worth considering.

That would require setting up an internal search software. Pretty complicated thing to do, if memory serves.
