Well he didn't outright hate it because he liked the well fight between Zuko and Aang and Sokka's rite of passage.
I think a lot of people forgive this episode because of the awesome bounty hunter lady. That subplot was very solid and added something to the universe, even if the rest of the episode was exceedingly lazy and badly done. Great Divide, on the other hand, is not just badly written but an episode that can be excised from the show without losing anything of value.
Man, I'm honestly not sure if I ever watched this episode all the way through. That vast majority of my memories of it centre on the climax, certainly.
Yeah - my reaction to rewatching the episode turned out to be, "Wait, that terrible story was the same episode as the giant sniffer-weasel?"
I probably did watch the entire thing at some point, though- I vaguely recalled the plotline Doug described, and I certainly remembered an episode where they met a Water Tribe guy who foreshadowed the father and let Sokka come of age.
But all one vividly remembers is the bounty-hunter lady who never shows up again despite most similar characters making a reappearance, right?
She actually does show up again.
The last hurrah? Nah, I'd do it again.Umm, bounty hunter character DOES show up again when they try to track Aang when he disappeared to spirit world.

I watched this one today and predicted doug would not be okay with some elements. Called it! Me? I kind of like it due to showing a bit more of how Sokka feels about father leaving, and the subplot was good. The main plot even has it's strong points, but the stuff that bugged did bug me...but only to a point.
She does show up again. Once. Toph think she's really cool.
...you just made me realize: That thing she rides, it's the same animal that teaches Toph how to earthbend, right?
Insert witty and clever quip here. My page, as the database hates my handle.Well, somewhat close. Similar, at least.
Insert witty and clever quip here. My page, as the database hates my handle.Maybe she likes the Shirshu due to their shared experiences of living blind but being total badasses. Seriously, it's one of the few big animals Appa fights that nearly beats him.
But that's a story for another time."YOU WERE ON SNL! YOU SHOULD KNOW BETTER THAN THIS!"
I think Doug's under the assumption that SNL = incredibly great comedians.

SNL is widely considered a training ground for comedians, and it's one of the highest-profile ones there is. So someone coming out the other end and still being terribly unfunny is a bit like a guy who passed out of Harvard Law School being a terrible lawyer.

Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies. They vary. Often times I don't think Adam Sandler's a great comedic actor and there are only 2 or 3 movies were I actually liked him, yet he's the head of the company most commonly associated with hiring SNL regulars/alums in Hollywood movies? I think it's more about the money.
Some people make boatloads of money being terrible lawyers. *shrug*
Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.Honest question; has anyone ever really found Adam Sandler funny? I've never heard anything but hate for the guy (long before Thats My Boy, I recall everyone panning his movies), and while he has got a good deal of cheap laughs out of me, I can see why.
For comparison, I'm not familiar with Mike Myers outside of the first two Shrek films, but general opinion seemed to be he was hilarious until he wasn't. With Adam Sandler, it sounds like everyone always hated him, but we're just now getting really vocal about it.

These movies keep being made. It's because they make enough money to make another movie. That's it.
I always found Sandler funny. Well, Click was the last one I saw that I liked. Haven't really caught any of his movies after that.
I don't think he's funny. I do find him strangely likable, though.
The last hurrah? Nah, I'd do it again. He is. Some of his early stand up stuff is amazing and I did love some of his movies (Happy Gilmore & Anger Management)
*shrug* He wasn't always terrible. But neither was he ever my first choice for comedy.
A True Lady's Quest - A Jojo is You!
According to Wikipedia one guy wrote that episode and disappeared for the rest of the show.
