^Yeah, I know, but I want to get some back-up before taking them off and getting someone's panties in a twist because "YMMV~!"

ETA: Went ahead and got rid of them. Also got rid of Goldanna because it was a screed on how misunderstood she is, got rid of Carver for being Zero Context, and got rid of Anders because he has a shit-ton of fans.

Debating weither or not Morrigan should go. I am pretty sure she has about as many fans and nuetrals as haters but I am not sure.

Oh, and how about Charlie and Danny from Revolution? I know some people seem to hate the two character's guts, but they should be given a chance. Honestly, sometimes you have to wonder if it's a Hatedom or Hate Dumb that has a problem with this character or that character. sad

A lot of times its both. tongue I'm not familiar with Revolution, so I wouldn't know.

[up][up]I have seen some fans gush about her (mostly because they think she's hot) and if tumblr is anything to go by it seems like people are neutral about her really. She does get a decent amount of fanart on tumblr as well. But then again so does any character if you put their names in the tumblr tag. tongue I haven't seen any hatred of her though. You can try going to Dragon Age official forums or something.

I know I've asked this before, bot does anyone think that Jimmy from Ed, Edd n Eddy counts as a scrappy?

Remember, we have to clean up the trope.

His example on that page is confusing. Jimmy does receive hate from fans (How much isn't really explained) and yet he garners their sympathy? Doesn't really sound like a scrappy to me.

Ugh. I feel like deleting every entry because of natter alone. If people know a character is a base breaker than why do they still add them under the scrappy? Like Nocturna said Base Breaker and The Scrappy are mutually exclusive.

I think it should be noted that if a character is a Base Breaker then it should be taken to the work's YMMV page and explained there since Base Breaker got a Example Sectionectomy.

Somebody added Ron and Ginny back. I uncommented it linked to this thread.

I think getting rid of Base Breaker examples may lead people to add them here instead.

I don't know if I can comment here (never did it before) but I know the Ed Edd N Eddy fanbase and I actually think Jimmy counts as a scrappy. He's probably the second most hated character after Sarah; even Kevin, already considered a Scrappy, has more fans than him. Just my opinion...

@Duck: Base Breaker had its examples removed a while ago. But you may be right that that's an impetus behind so many Base Breakers appearing on The Scrappy. (Either that or people think any hatedom, regardless of if there's also fans, is enough to include a character on The Scrappy.)

I'm glad to see that you guys are looking into The Scrappy. Your Mileage May Vary should not be used as an excuse for Natter, and it helps to look at what characters really qualify for the title.

Here's what I can tell you from what people say about Revolution:

  • Charlie is shaping up to be this. She's rude, combative, ungrateful, incompetent, and whiny. People have also slapped the labels Damsel Scrappy, Designated Hero, and Jerk Sue on her.
  • Danny is a scrappy of scrappies. He started the altercation that got his father killed, even though the people in his village recognized the Monroe Republic as the legitimate sovereign authority, and that there was nothing to indicate that Monroe wanted Ben Matheson dead. Most likely Ben would have been released after being questioned and found to know nothing, and returned to the village (with Neville or another Monroe agent monitoring him). But then again without his death there wouldn't be a series. The Matheson family, sans Miles, appears to be an Idiot Ball team.

Not only that, but people are even criticizing the actors playing them, calling them "wooden" and "flat-lined". They forget that they are successfully avoiding the pitfalls of Large Ham and Narm.

Oh, and one other thing... Danny got killed off in the most recent episode. That was just after he pulled off a Crowning Moment Of Awesome, and it resulted in the labels Rescued from the Scrappy Heap and Alas, Poor Scrappy.

Ms CC 93: I don't know. I still think that Jimmy should be listed as a scrappy along with Kevin and Sarah, though I like him more than them. (the kankers whatever, I guess they can be considered base breakers). Look at his page on the show wiki Jimmy Half of the comments are from haters..And no, I don't know tumblr very well

All the cul de sac kids tend to have a wavering treatment with the fanbase, since they are basically Hero Antagonist characters that are responsible for thwarting the more sympathetic Eds. Their tendency to get away with being asses themselves and the whole 'blaming all three Eds as one person' shtick just grates things further.

Rolf and Jonny are usually the Cloud Cuckoo Landers stuck in their own world until the Eds genuinely provoke them, though even they have their nastier moments.

Jimmy is usually meek, but even then he is often Sarah's personal weasel and shows similar smugness to the Eds being tormented, which could explain some of the flak he gets. Outside that there's just Naz, whose pretty much a Flat Character.

It's hard to find other websites: however recently, in february, there was a favorite character contest on this facebook page. Sarah and Jimmy were the first characters to be voted off. If you are connected to facebook you can easily find the results clicking on the images here.. Then there's this forum (the topic about hated characters) and this other forum. They aren't very recent though. And I guess this site, it's about worst cartoon characters in general, he's in the top 53 but this doesn't really count...

I agree with you however, the fans are obviously very biased, but it's normal to sympathize with the main characters.

"Least favourite" isn't the same as "The Scrappy". By that notion, many minor characters are scrappies. Even major characters can be those a large majority of the fandom just doesn't care about, but certainly don't mind, and a small minority who actually care, positive or negative, but aren't enough to influence large-scale voting.

Say you have a small harem of three girls, Alice, Beatrice, and Carol. And one guy. The fans of Alice and Beatrice often come to blows, but both agree that Carol should go and hang herself. Carol fans don't really care about the other two, as long as she gets screentime. So, favourite character polls: Alice: 40%. Beatrice: 35%. Carol: 15%. Guy: 9%. The Landlady: 1%. Is the guy a scrappy? Not really. Carol might be, since she has an up to 75% hatedom.

A "Worst Cartoon Characters of All Time" list is far more relevant, as it actually looks for scrappy characters.

TL;DR: Popularity contests measure popularity, not hatedom.

If you find a poll about which character people hate the most, that would be a good start. Overall, it's not easy, and shortcuts may not lead to the right destination.

Jimmy is kind of a brat sometimes but otherwise I don't hate him, he can be sweet and I love him in "A Fistful of Ed" and "Fa-La-La-La-Ed".

Another poll here.

Edit: They say Gilda isn't The Scrappy. So I guess you can keep her deleted.

I don't think any of the Fi M examples should stay.

Gilda is arguable, but I haven't really noticed any pervasive hate, and she was an antagonist anyway. The only thing that really comes to mind with a noticeable hatedom is Merriweather Williams, and that was just for one episode.

Personally, Twist is my least favorite character, but lots of people love her.
