Slated to debut in 2013, Steven Universe is a coming-of-age story told from the perspective of Steven, the youngest member of a team of magical Guardians of the Universe. The animated series was conceived as part of the shorts development initiative at Cartoon Network Studios, and is created by Emmy and Annie Award-nominated writer and storyboard artist Rebecca Sugar (Adventure Time). Sugar is Cartoon Network's first solo female show creator.

First Promo image here.

The art kinda reminds of of Scott Pilgrim a bit...

Rebecca Sugar has storyboarded most of the best Adventure Time episodes and is a terrific artist.

wild mass guessSteven has a girlfriend who is not a member of the Guardians of the Universe, one of the other Guardians of the Universe has a crush on him, but knows it's unrequited

The noses of the White haired Guardian, the Black haired Guardian and to an extent Steven's are ugly

wild mass guess The Black haired Guardian is the oldest and teaches Steven how to be a Guardian in a Drill Sergeant Nasty way

wild mass guess The Blonde Guardian (who I would not be suprised if she was inspired by Sailor Uranus) is also Steven's teacher, but she's nicer and more motherly towards him

wild mass guess After Steven, the White haired Guardian is the youngest, most immature and most likely to have feelings for Steven (though there's a good chance that all three Guardians have some feelings for him)

Well.

Now she gets to work on actual material worth a damn again (the last few times before she hit that certain gig included The Goon and her own short film).

I'll be patiently waiting, CN. That animation preview should be something quite savoring after all this wait.

Looking forward to this show. I just hope people don't compare it to Adventuretime TOO much.

Form the art I've seen, I hope this doesn't become "Slacker-boy surrounded by uber-competent girls," because that is sexist and tired.

[up] But only sexist to males, so it's okay

It'll be more like "Incompetent boy surrounded by competent girls"

[up][up] I think (hope) Rebecca Sugar would be well aware of that, seeing how she fixed a few bad ideas on the AT episodes she storyboarded. She said before that she feels socially responsible for the message that her work sends to young viewers.

Anyways, sooo psyched. We srs need more female diverse female characters.

your constant harassment of the female gender makes me sick

Yeah, this should be good. It's too bad AT lost her talent, but I'll be glad to give this a shot, too.

It's been fun.

It truly has potential, indeed - because sooner or later, Adventure Time will need to be replaced (and concluded properly, of course...). My concern is, can this show be entertaining and engaging overall, AND do just that all at the same time?

What I thought before watching the pilot: Steven reeks of Self Insert and his sisters reek of Mary Sue (their names are just one example) and the artstyle is unappealing

What I think now after watching the pilot: The song made me smile, the fact that none of the sisters have a thing for him suprised me (Garnet might have one, but not likely) Other than that, it was feh (The ending reminded me of Regular Show too much for my liking)

wild mass guess A Love Triangle between Steven, The Blonde Girl and the guy with the big earlobes (who I think is named Lars)

[up][up] The show was written and created by a woman, so its hard to see the Self Insertion.
