I noticed lack of one general thread regarding Warhammer Fantasy, so I decided to create a one. :)

Not only Warhammer Fantasy Battle discussions welcomed, but also all things related to Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay (regardless of edition).

If anyone has questions regarding Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay's second edition, feel free to ask since I own most of its sourcebooks.

Warcry: Lumineth vs. Nighthaunt set. Love all the Nighthaunt models and the masked Lumineth.
There is something about those Lumineth Elves that reminds me of British ceremonial guards. They also look like they could be kitbashed with Eldar warlocks and Corsairs. I like the burning ghosts, especially the ones in white cloaks, because they could be used as ghosts for the Vampire Counts. That humongous Lizardman statue head looks really cool and I want to build one of my own.

Ao S: Dawnbringers book and the great looking Krethusa the Croneseer.

Krethusa looks like she could be used as a very spooky Angelic Abomination, like something designed by Guillermo del Toro.

Also Ao S: Canis & Toll book◊ along with some great models of the characters.
Ah, more Mordheim-ish Witch-hunters. Mistress Verentia looks like she could be a character in Necromunda, or an NPC encounter with the local thieves' guild boss.

Warhammer Underworlds: Zondara’s Gravebreakers consisting of a Necromancer, her werewolf lover and three zombies, all of whom look great, especially Zondara herself.

These would all look cool with the Vampire Counts, particularly Zondara as an ancient necromancer. She looks like Baba Yaga and other Dark Fantasy witches, so she could also be used as a Hag in D&D. The werewolf looks almost panther-like with his smooth skin.

Double-post: Now we get to see the return of the Greenskins.

These bring warm fuzzy feelings to my heart, as the Orcs and Goblins were the first Warhammer minis I got, thanks to a friend who had started playing WH and Mordheim prior to this. Besides the returning models, I really like the grungy feel of those new models as well.

[up]While I do like the new Black Orc Warboss, I would have preferred him to have a helmet. I do like that Ogdruz Swampdigga has a River Troll head as a hat though. Good to see the Troll Hag back as well, I always liked that model.

The Black Orc Warboss would look perfect in my Warcraft-project. I'd just give him hair with long braids on the sides, like Orgrim Doomhammer.

While I still have bits to make complete Orc Boyz (and Orks) I am tempted to get some of those mono-pose Boyz that were available with the Arrer Boyz in the big army box. I never got any of those originally, and they are different enough from the sculpts on the sprues, so I could have use for them.

So I managed to get to the launch event at Warhammer World, it was packed (the queue was apparently all the way out the carpark at open) and Games Workshop are as shit at stock management as ever, with the main rulebook, the Tomb King and Bret faction books and the new novel all being completely sold out by 13:30, probably earlier.

I did manage to however pick up both the good guy army book and the bad guy one, so that was a win.

The Legacy rules for the factions that aren't part of Old World's storyline (Lizardmen, Dark Elves, Vampire Counts, Ogre Kingdoms, Skaven, Daemons & Chaos Dwarfs) are out.

Fun fact, with the new Skaven weapon team you can actually run a full ambush army, placing 0 units during deployment.

Ahead of Adepticon we get the reveal of two commemorative minis that will be released then. I like the Steel Rook for looking like he's from a Medieval painting. In a Bretonnian setting he could be a similar mystical entity as the Green Knight.

Double post because I noticed something while reading through the Forces of Fantasy Army Book (My rulebook won't arrive unil tomorrow so I can't read that yet).

Some time last year I posted that I wondered if GW were going to include female Bretonnian Knights, and now I read in the Knights Errant lore in the book: "Knights Errant are the youthful sons and daughters of Bretonnia's noble class". There are also mention of peasant men and women becoming Sergeants-at-Arms. The Empire section also mentions men and women joining the Pistoliers and Outriders. Hopefully this will mean some more human women models for Old World, something WFB was lacking

In the Tomb Kings Arcane Journal there’s also mention of how “it would have been a rare find indeed to stumble upon a queen or princess of the Great Land who did not know how to wield a blade with deadly precision”. Which makes sense, as one of the long time Tomb King special characters is a women.

With Brets I think there’s even an argument to be made that Pegasus knights should be majority female due to the need for light riders.

[up]I was talking specifically about living womentongue You could say that any number of the Skeletons are were female in life after all (who's going to count the ribs[lol]). Thinking about it though, it was actually the Empire that had the least female models of the human WFB factions. Brettonia had four Damsel models, two Fey Enchantress models and the Jeanne d'Archétype special character while Dogs of War had a woman special character as well, as did Kislev. From what I can remember, however, the Empire itself had no female models outside of Mordheim.

Double post again I am afraid.

I've got my copy of the Old World rulebook and am working my way through it slowly. I have noticed a few lore changes from the last time I read the history of the Warhammer World (whish was a while ago so I could have missed some of them if they happened before now).

  • As expected Malekith the Witch-King is now Melarion, the Dread-King as in AoS.
  • Lord Kroak is referred to as 'it' rather then 'he', even before death, so I am guessing the Slann are officially genderless now.
  • The reason the Grand Theogonist didn't recognise the election of Magritta of Marienburg as Empress (and caused the breakdown of the Imperial system) is implied to be due to not all the Electors being consulted rather than because she was a woman or a child (I remember both those being previously stated reasons).

There are probably more, but these were the ones that immediately stood out.

I recall the original reason being specifically that Magritta was an infant when she was elected.

Personally, I think I like the old version better. "The electors chose a literal toddler as a puppet ruler" sells the idea of a cynically corrupt empire that's abandoned its original ideals a lot better than "not all electors were present to vote".

[up]Yes, I think that was the 7th Edition version but I can't find my Army Book to check. I did check the 6th Edition (were he refused because she was a woman) and the 8th (it just said he refused without giving a reason). It does say that her descendent, Empress Elspeth Magritta VI is young and a puppet of the Cult of Manann and Marienburg's merchant guilds, however.

Some other things I have come across:

  • The orcs and goblins have an origin I hadn't heard before, that they came to the world by stowing away on the Old Ones' ships[lol]
  • Rather than being an Empire Knightly Order that was founded in Estalia, the Knights of the Blazing Sun are said to be Estalian Templar Knights.
  • Of the (currently) non-playable human kingdoms, Grand Cathay gets the mentioned the most, then Kislev, Estalia and Tilia get around the same, then Norsa. Araby gets a handful of mentions (mostly in Estalia's section), while Ind and Nippon have been mentioned once each as far as I can tell (simply saying that the High Elves trade with them).

I think there was some mention in older materials of the Orcs and Goblins having arrived as spores on the Old Ones' ships, but for the life of me I could not tell you where.

Somewhat relatedly, I always found it a little funny that the Fantasy orcs are in any case explicitly not supposed to be part of the Great Plan, hence why the Lizardmen consider them to be enemies and want to wipe them out, while the 40K Orks were created as a warrior-species by the Old Ones, which would actually make them the closest thing to a thematic parallel to the Saurus in the setting.

Also reading the rulebook, and i'm wondering... did Skaven exist before "The Doom of Tylos/Kavzar"? That makes them an extremely yougn race.

[up]That's their origin as told in the 4th Edition Army Book, so that has been their origin since at least the early ninties. That book goes into a little more detail though.

A new version of Full Tilt is available. I would like to build terrain like this, along with assorted townhouses and other structures in a typical Medieval town, for RPG and diorama purposes.

Where does Mordheim: City of the Damned falls into the old world timeline? Did it happen decades before, or just some months?

SebastianGray (4 Score & 7 Years Ago)

[up][up]I had wondered if thy would bring that back. It's good to see it again.

[up]Mordheim was hit by Be'lakor's comet in 2000 and Old World takes place around 2250 I think (that's the last date in the timeline at any rate).

I suppose if OW does well, then there might be at least a PDF some updated rules for Mordheim. Perhaps even some re-releases of old models or a few new ones?

When the Empire get their release I am hoping for some of the Mordheim miniatures to go on Made-to-Order, as well as the Imperial Noble and Witch Hunter from the original Warhammer Quest. One of the Questing Knights on Made-to-Order is from Warhammer Quest after all.

I haven't really touched my warband's bios in City of the Damned. The only two characters i bothered giving backstory was my Archer Hero (making him a Herimault/exiled bretonnian knight) and a Warrior (making him a Norscan who migrated south because he was sick of the snow).
Speaking of, anyone got hold of the Bretonnia Arcane Journal for the Old World? Anything interesting in it?
