I noticed lack of one general thread regarding Warhammer Fantasy, so I decided to create a one. :)
Not only Warhammer Fantasy Battle discussions welcomed, but also all things related to Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay (regardless of edition).
If anyone has questions regarding Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay's second edition, feel free to ask since I own most of its sourcebooks.

Howdy.
Was just about to make a new thread until I found this one.
Anyway if people are interested in the warhammer fantasy role-play second edition or much maligned third edition. Here's the place to come.
hashtagsarestupidWhy won't we start a discussion now? What is so much maligned about the third edition. I confess I haven't tried it out yet due to the financial issues, but once I overcome them I can go to local hobbyist shop (which has nearly everything related to Tabletop Gaming, plus stuff like bathtub sized model of Titanic) and grab it.
My President is Funny Valentine.Great
If you're familiar with reaction to Dungeons And Dragons 4e. It's a lot like that.
While the second edition setting is largely the same they radically changed a lot of the game mechanics to place greater emphasis on minis, attack power cards and custom dice and other 'gimmicks'. It's a Love It or Hate It as to which style you prefer.

hashtagsarestupidThen it's more similar to an old Warhammer Fantasy inspired GW board game (which English title I can't recall), which was quite enjoyable. I feel that simpler mechanics may let players focus more on roleplaying than rolls.
My President is Funny Valentine. That's a common actuation. It's certainly true you need to a lot of table space and patience to set all the tokens and cards up.
It's is in my opinion good for a narrative driven campaigns. Characters are realistically grounded and combat fast and deadly. It's 'gritty' with out being simulationism and intentionally open ended about the definitions of the results of a minor success or failures.
Ironically considering it's Grimdark content it would probably be a good starter RPG for pre teen children who have trouble with large numbers and remembering complex rules.
hashtagsarestupidOk. High Elves just came out. They introduced magical flying eagle chariots, Maidens of Avelorn, though considering the High Elves the chances of them actually being 'maidens' is pretty slim, and one of the most overpowered banners in the game.
Not Mat Ward's worst army book, but not a brilliant one, either.
It's your God, they're your rules, you go to hell." - Mark TwainMaybe he's hoping that the world will look up to their spiritual liege, the Phoenix King. Or whoever rules the High Elves.
I haven't read the Army Book yet but there have been something like the Maidens of Avelorn in older editions, they were just armed with spears rather than bows and were only usable when you used the Everqueen.
The flying chariot does remind me somewhat of the old Tzeentchian flying ship that was in Man O'War.
He barely even refers to Finubar, which has actually annoyed a few people. More likely to make Tyrion the Roboute Girly-man of the High Elves.
I hate how little fluff is given to Teclis. He is literally my favourite character in any fantasy setting.
It's your God, they're your rules, you go to hell." - Mark TwainTyrion has been a glory hound for the High Elves for a while now so that's nothing new, comes with being a descendent of the first Phoenix King.
I have never much liked Teclis myself. My favourite High Elf character is Eltharion.
My opinion about High Elves is neutral. I care much more about Humans (Chaos and non-Chaos alike) than the Elder Races in general.
I dread to think what Ward would do with Volkmar the Grim as the latter according to 4chan make Kaldor Draigo look like a pussy. He would ressurect on his own if written by Ward rather than reinvigorated by profane daemons for some purpose only known to them (read: troll the Empire by provoking conflict between Esmer and Volkmar)
PS. Good to see the thread moving forward without my presence.

My President is Funny Valentine. On the elder races: I have never been much of a fan of Elves in any fantasy setting but I do like Warhammer's Dark Elves and the Dwarves are my secondary army for the game.
My favourite armies though are the Undead ones and I have been playing them since before they were split into the Vampire Counts and Tomb Kings.
Nothing to do with High Elves, but I wonder how the Ogre Kingdoms are doing right now.
I started to play them when they were 6th edition rules in a 8th edition environment, and usually gathered comments like "They are so weak they can only win against goblins or Tomb Kings". But then, when the new book came out, people were all screaming "OMFG so broken !!!1!!". Everyone then jumped on the bandwagon... until the next army book, I suppose.
The buff they got was necessary, but I sincerely hope they didn't go too far the other way. Because playing overpowered is no fun at all.
While I haven't played the game in years (not since 6th Edition at least) according to this site Ogres are Upper-Middle Tier so good but not too overpowered.
If I ever start WHFB, this would be the music I would play during the game.
Is the old blind Eltharion◊ still available as a model and a character? I've always thought it was an achievement in sculpting, especially for its time - I believe it's early 2000s/late 1990s vintage.

Schild und Schwert der ParteiAs far as I know it is unfortunately not available any more. It is still my all time favourite GW model as it is just so fluid
Fuck. I blame Mat Ward. Thanks for answering the question tho
Should be relatively easy to kitbash a replacement and add a green stuff blindfold. Still a crying shame. Dammit.
Still, this has given me an idea - how about we rank our top 10 favourite WFB models of all time - can be as new or as vintage as you like?
- 10. Karl Franz on Deathclaw]. Nice sculpt of Deathclaw.
- 9. Galrauch.
- 8. The Beastmen special characters, specifically, Khazrak, Morghur, and Gorthor. Why? Because they are all timelessly good sculpts.
- 7. Snikch. Fantastically dynamic.
- 6. Konrad von Carstein. Again, dynamic and original.
- 5. Eltharion the Blind◊ - so fluid.
- 4. Kroq-Gar on Grymloq. Over a decade old, not dated in the least.
- 3. Wurrzhag da Great Green Prophet.
- 2. Archaon the Everchosen. He's mainly here for his horse, Dorghar.
- 1. Grimgor Ironhide. Because "GRIMGOR IZ DA BEST".
Don't quote me on it but I think it was retconed because the fans didn't like the direction they took Eltharion (who at the time was second only to the twins in popularity amongst the High Elves special characters.
As for my favourite models:
10 - Queen Helga
9 - Beastmen Beastlord with Great Weapon
8 - Phoenix
7 - The Red Duke
3 - Vampire Lady
2 - Wood Elf Highborn with Great Weapon
1 - Blind Eltharion
I forgot to add a special mention for the Ogre Ninja

I just like to blame Mat Ward for everything.
I'd add to my original list () honourable mentions to the Black Coach for its understated yet intimidating look, and Greasus Goldtooth for his swag.
The Kislevite models are nice too.

Schild und Schwert der ParteiI like the Ice Queen and the guy on the bear but I think most of the others are looking a bit dated and I have never been much of a fan of Goldtooth.
If you want to include Forge World models the the Exulted Vermin Lord and the Basilisk are nice.
All the FW Warhammer models are stunning. The Incarnate Elemental of Beasts is very good indeed.

Schild und Schwert der ParteiSo I'm putting together a new High Elf list, but I forgot to bring my rulebook with me when I moved. The rules are "at least 25% on Core, no more than 25% on Lords/Heroes, no more than 50% on Special and no more than 25% rare," correct?
Still not embarrassing enough to stan billionaires or tech companies.
